      I play Valorant exclusively now but I will never get over the over abundance of line up mollies preventing you from defusing , while the enemy is literally 3 walls away and unreachable. And you HAVE to wait the util out, unlike in CS where everyone can carry a smoke. In valo it just wastes so much of the bomb timer and you can just stand around and wait for multiple 6-7 second mollies to end.

    as someone mainly intrested in valorant, this was a refreshingly great video. I agree with all the stated opinions. Another thing to account for in for example an esport is the amount of stuff happening on screen in comparison to cs. Valorant might at one point run into the problem that the games become to hard to follow, with the cause being to many abilities that have a large vfx effect attached to them. This is also a reason why i do enjoy watching csgo matches a bit more cause they are (in comparison) much easier to follow

    • @kenim
      @kenim ปีที่แล้ว +73

      Val is almost if not already in a point of visual contamination that makes it unfun or odd to tackle with precise gunplay. Hell even Overwatch went full melee when it happened there too and they had to drastically tone it down. Smoke is enough VFX for this kind of gameplay.

    Enjoyed Valorant a lot initially, but eventually went back to CSGO. Why? Mainly because of the Sentinels' traps and information gathering tools. I don't like these legal wallhacks as a Lurker/Flanker :D Also the more Agents are being added, the more Valorant becomes like a MOBA, where you need to be aware of 1000s of different tricks to be able to outplay people. I think in cs as everyone has the same tool kit rounds can play out dynamically. You entry fragged to gain space and survived on 1hp? Team mates can drop you awp and flashes and now you can throw the supporting utility. That’s a role change in like 10 seconds. In valorant I don’t think this is as possible with all the set roles and playstyles. Some agents will be better at entry and some better at holding flank, etc.

      @shigarumo2263 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    nice to see a nuanced take for once. Very good explanation of some of the pitfalls of each, although you didn't mention the cheating problem in CS, and lack thereof for Valorant. On the subject of map queues in Val, I'd say that the big problem with adding a map queue would be that certain agents are notoriously map-dependent. A great example is Viper, who is mandatory for Icebox and Breeze but irrelevant everywhere else. Similar to what happens in CS, people would just queue the maps their main is good on and never have to learn another agent or branch out and get better.

    • @Falllll
      @Falllll ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the cheater issue is incredibly overblown in CS. It happens, but even with just prime matchmaking I don't encounter them terribly frequently. Especially if you're just playing in a group with friends, unless your trust factor is terrible you just don't run into them that frequently. And I'd much rather run into someone who might be cheating every 10+ games than a smurf every other game.

    Been reading comments and replies over a csgo vs valorant posts/topic and one of the things I've noticed so far is how differently both of the fans of each games defend their favorite game. There were couples of valorant fans back then who would say sht about cs but I rarely see them start an argument about it these days. Meanwhile it's the opposite for cs fans, even on a post that doesn't mention valorant at all they'd still be there to compare and sht on the other game. 6k hours on cs and am radiant in valorant and have been since episode 2.
    The ways you die on valorant are some of the most frustrating things I've experienced. Depending on the map, you can take 2 steps and INSTANTLY die in the round. Not to mention the absurd site takes that you face and random ass shots people hit on you due to the spray patterns being easier. In CS, you are mostly in control of how the round plays out for you. Of course you'll get sprayed through a smoke every now and then, but valorant is 10x worse.
    I was on the valorant grind since episode 2 and recently quit at the beginning of this year in order to get back into CS. Overall, I've had much more fun actually having fair aim duels than me being shit on by a Raze rocket launcher :)

    One of my biggest issues in Valorant is the 'role' issue identified in this video. In Val, to win games, you need your teammates to fulfill the role they picked (e.g if theyre duelist, theyre typically the entry, or if theyre controller, they need to smoke, etc). But if they choose not to play their role as intended by Val, theres not really anything you can do to fix that. You can't fill in for them because your character has different abilities which cannot replicate the unhelpful teammate. But in CSGO, if someone doesn't want to play their role, you can swap with them and have practically the same effect because your characters are equal.

    As someone who has spent 5000 hours in CS:GO, it's so weird to "learn" Valorant. All those creatures, grenades or just... thingies(?) flying at you and some are destructable where as some are not, make it really counterintuitive for me. In CS: if it flies in your direction, you cannot shoot it and you have to move/turn around. In Valorant? Good luck finding out. Also what I despise about Valorant: I hate the ultimate abilites. I like the regular ones, but not those where you have to kill people and so on to gain access to them for one use. They feel so overpowered and annoying to me.
    But I find it interesting that in CS:GO, i encounter a woman like once every 100-200 games which made me think that women don't game but in Valorant, there is a girl in basically every team it feels like which made me understand that's it's not gaming itself which isn't appealing to women but just the games. And honestly, I find it really cool when women play video games so that's a plus for Valorant.

    One more point I'd like to add.
    Valorant will (and has to) keep on adding more agents and abilities. Most of those abilities are variations of the smoke and the flash. Good variety. But as a casual gamer it gets overwhelming.
    CS has (almost) been the same experience since I started playing it 5-6 years back.
    Like I played valorant exclusively for 6 months but then got exhausted and stopped. Now if I just want to play something, I can just pick up CS and actually do something of value, but I will not be able to do so in valorant. Someone will always get nerfed or un-nerfed in games like these, and I won't realize that because I would be out of the loop.

      Ok there's 6 duelists now so just have an even 6 agents per role and stop it there. The games main draw for FPS newbies was the relatively gradual learning curve. But with 21 agents that's kinda out of the window. I think they should cap it at 24, and rework pre existing agents when they would've released new ones

    Valorant skins are... corporate. They have zero character, zero sentimental value beyond their price. A polar opposite to Counter Strike, a free market run by the community, dealing items created by the community, where the the monetary value is dictated by the sentimental value and not the other way around, because the value of an item is entirely dictated by how desirable it is to the community. I think this is why so many people get the comparison between Valorant and CS:GO skins wrong: They're trying to compare a sinlge shop with an entire marketplace. It's the exact same thing with stuff like designer clothing or apple products (to some extent): Ultimately, it's a choice between individualism and assimilation.

      See I find this take interesting because I can absolutely see how someone would get this experience from CSGO. But for me, being a CS player and trying out Valorant for a while to see if I found it fun, I had the exact same experience but with the opposite games. I've only played a few games of CS over the years I've played it where there were toxic ass people that just ruin the whole experience. But for the most part, I've only had good teamates that were just there to win and have fun. But for me, Valorant was nothing but a toxic cesspool of people yelling at each other for the smallest things. I think it's just a bias from starting at one game or the other as no matter what game you switch to you seemingly will always meet toxicity at first no matter what. I think both communities have terrible people but also amazing ones too. We just happen to only remember the bad over the good unfortunately. My solution is to play unranked muted in either game to get the hang of it before moving into ranked games with comms. Usually you'll get placed with higher ranked/less toxic people.

    Love the video. Its really well written and offers a calm analysis of both games with their respective pros and cons. I play Valorant but will admit that i still very much enjoy watching CSGO content and have alot of respect for the scene. My biggest complain i have with Valorant is the fact that every agent in the game is asigned a singular specific role. As a tactical fps game, having certain people perform certain strategic duties is a part of the games core. If these duties arent fullfilled, as a result, the whole team can suffer. You as the player are basically thrown into a team with 4 strangers with no guarantee wether or not they know how to fullfill their roles or even play as a team in a game that is supposed to be a tactical fps.The easiest example would be the role of the smoker (i.e. Controller). Smokes are easily one of the most important parts of the game since they can cut off sightlines and areas of the map, which makes capturing or defending sites so much easier. In Valorant, if your one and only designated smoke player does not do his job, the whole team suffers. In CSGO however, since all players have access to the same equipment, the players are not fully reliant one single teammate. If one player does not use their utility the rest of the team still has smokes, flashes, nades etc..

However, this means that players will play Kj and get really good, but now they don't necessarily have to learn anything else. Yet, in CS you will have to know a ton of smokes, flashes, mollys and nades to be good. I know for a fact I'm never going back to Valorant, I'm a CS player however I did start playing Valorant during its twitch collab beta. Didn't play valo at all after the beta cuz the movement and shooting was so... ugh (personal opinion). Recently picked valorant back up again cuz friends begged me to and I'll just list some tilting stuff:
    1. Why can't I choose which maps to play? Why is it ALL RANDOM? I'm trying to learn the maps but I can't do it because I keep getting that one stupid map with the ziplines.
    2. Who the fak said the community is good for this? The toxicity is unreal, I only get 2 types of lobbies, either its a lobby filled with try-hard level 400s screaming callouts at me, a lvl 1 player like they mean anything or its a lobby filled with cringe e-daters that are more focused on each other's voices than the actual game. There is no in-between, where are all the chill people at?
    3. HOLY SHET THE COLORS!! Why is there like a million visual effects on the screen? I can't see shet and can't tell what's a flash, smoke or general ability. The information overload is crazy, can barely focus on what actually matters.
    4. Retakes are legit impossible, Valorant favors passive players and this is primarily due to the low movement speed coupled with the absolutely mega large maps like Breeze. If you can sit still longer than your opponent, you just win. (Fak Breeze and Fak Fracture)
    5. Last but not least, MAPS. MAPS in valorant are awful, most of them bar a few are downright unplayable and I can't even skip those maps because of reason 1. This could just be bias but I constantly feel like there are a tons of angles I need to check, so many dumb corners. The pathways are tight and narrow while the sites are big and open with almost no cover if you exclude walls.
    Valorant is a riot game that I will not be "enjoying" further however I will still be stuck in League's undying grasp probably.

  • @Conno422
    @Conno422 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Honestly when you talk about the learning curve, valorant's is easier because of the ease on utility. If you one trick a character and learn how to use your character, it's much easier to be able to make impact amd there's no need to learn lineups (unless you play one of the 3 characters that require them to be effective). Also the fact you can't one trick maps also forces the playerbase as a whole to be better at using different utility set ups instead of just learning lineups for a single map. Add in the randomness in the guns, that also flattens the skill curve. Valorant also has the better learning tools where unrated is virtually the same game as comp where cs casuals are completely different from comp. New players also aren't going to do faceit. Cs definitely has a higher skill ceiling but valorant is more beginner friendly.

    csgo is very skill based. from the movement to the shooting mechanics, it takes a lot of practice and and skill to overcome. Valorant is very knowledge based. You have to be aware of all the different agents, their skills, recent buffs of nerfs, etc. I'm glad they went in a different direction with Valorant and didn't just copy the cs formula, it is refreshing. Fucking THANK YOU for taking it down the middle with this! You can't have a civilized debate between both games without triggering the CS mob (CS player here).
    The reason I believe Valorant is a good thing is because it incentives competition between both companies. Compeition is good and leads to better products on both sides. To use an overplayed example, in the world of wrestling, WWE got their ass in gear when WCW started buying their wrestlers and giving them new gimmicks that elevated their careers. And while WWE did win the Monday Night Wars, the fact there was legitimate competition proves that the companies in question will step up when they're threatened.
    Will Valorant kill CSGO? No. Will CSGO kill Valorant? No. But both of them existing is a good thing because not only does it provide a good product for different demographics, but it gives incentive to do better and provide a better product.

    CSGO is the more Competitive game of the two, where your skill is basically the only reason you lost a duel. With no core difference between players mechanics, every interaction is fair. IN valorant if you are playing something like sage and you remain in a 1v1 vs a duelist, the odds of the duelist winning are higher because he is more suited for duels than you, and that is what keeps the game from being 100% fair and skill based.

    Counter Strike is like chess Valorant is like chess but one in which you are always developing new pieces that bring a new movement pattern.
    The core problem I see with Valorant is that you have to pick a role before the game and if the player doesn't/can't fulfill that role, you can't just swap and help/relieve that player.
    And you lose the game because of that you can't rely on pure skill in Valorant the weapons are random, the teammates are random the maps are random everything is based on randomness and you have to try to direct that randomness in a way that you get an advantage out of it.
    But what bothers me about CS is that skins (which fortunately you don't need to play) are based on Gambling Some skins can be worth 15.000 Euro but why do you have to put them in boxes? Can't you just have the store where you can buy skins. The problem with the boxes I see simply in the fact that young people get suggested hey you can open such a box and get a blatant knife / gloves, etc.. And big TH-camrs/streamers are leading the way.

    I like both games but recently I have only been playing Valorant. One of the absolute major differences to the games are those who develop it. When something is broken in Valorant, Riot actually seem to fix things fairly quickly. For Valve it's completely different. Something has to become such a drag on the whole community that it reaches hundreds, if not thousands of steam or reddit posts about how seriously wrong things are before they even react and acknowledge the problem and then spend time accumulating data before even attempting to fix the problem. Right now the matching system in MM is horrible and completely broken. How am I supposed to enjoy the game whenever my friends and I queue up and 8/10 matches we play against LEM, Supremes and Global Elites when we are just gold novas who like to have fun? The last 2/10 matches we are playing against silvers or equals but then it's 50/50 whether its against or with a cheater as our 2 randoms.
    Since the supposedly fix for MM last year where there ranks were remade, the games matching system has been completely broken for us. Valorant doesn't seem to be so unbalanced in its matching.
    on the other hand, my major issues with Valorant is that before it was launched it was promised that there would be no abilities in the game that would be able to one-shot kill or be absolute round determining which turned out to be one big massive lie as when the game was released we had Brimstone with his Ultimate, Raze with her Ultimate and cluster bomb can all kill with just 1 instance. I know it's possible in CSGO too with the nade or Molotov, but for the nade to 1-hit kill from 100 HP to 0, you have to hit the face first with the nade and have it explode right next to the face. Molotov can be extinguished with a smoke. It's not possible in Valorant. - Or abilities that hinders your ability to move and shoot. If it incapacitates your opponent it takes away the competitiveness if you ask me.
    Both games have great strengths and weaknesses.

    • @emosti9652

      They definitely don't consider abilities and ultimates to be the same (considering they're fine with them being so impactful). I do think their constant agent introductions started making the game worse with Fade and onwards (and Astra but she's an outlier that also only made the game worse for the top players). I definitely miss when there was only a handful of agents, but their balancing was also much worse. I think I'd really like Valorant if it had today's balancing with a past agent pool (No clue who passed OG Raze balance). Half of what I dislike about these new agents is their VFX, rather than their usage as an ability. The other half is that it seems Riot's agent design philosophy has gotten worse or at least changed since the game came out. Agent's used to be much simpler and had intuitive kits. Now kit fluidity feels worse and my guess is it's due to designing abilities around agent theme. It could also just be that they have much less time to work on agents now that the game is released and they come out so often.
      I'm actually fine with all ultimates, but I think the most recent agent Gekko has crossed that line. It feels really unfair. The rest of the ults have a lot more counterplay to me. Of course, this "counterplay" can be countered by comboing the ultimate with utility, but I'm okay with that (like sage slow + brimstone ult) because it's an ultimate and requires semi-decent coordination with the casting delays. Now breach stun + raze nade doesn't feel good. (breach stun especially feels bad because of it's quick cast time and lack of a sound queue, you can hear a sage slow orb as it slowly moves through the air, a stun just appears). right now, breach stun is free, rechargeable, good impact.
      I wish Riot would experiment more with expensive abilities. I'd appreciate raze nade more if it costed say $800 or even $1000 (I think this concept could be applied to several agents like breach stun even (aftershock could be the recharging signature, and would fit initiator's corner clearing more). For Raze, suddenly you have to be disciplined (because of cost and because it wouldn't be regained from kills). They could make satchels the signature instead. Of course an alternative is that you could also just rework the nade and turn it into a CS frag, for example. (right now, shock darts are the frags of valorant).
      I feel that Valorant is constantly improving and degrading at the same time but at an even rate. There's still a lot that could be improved, and they do improve, but new problems get created (some problems are old and a result of late meta discovery such as breach's hidden power that could've also just been the result of more comboing utility being introduced to the game, or perhaps a new importance of map control not previously understood in valorant)

    • @shigarumo2263

      Raze nades needs to be accurate to even one hit someone.. You have enough time to run away from it. Also, if you see a enemie Raze in the team, just don't push instantly, or bait out the Raze before doing so.. Also, if you are so afraid of it, play Kay/o.
      Also, you can avoid almost everything in Valorant. Only that shitty blind from Gekko.. Even if you turn around, you will still gte blinded AND the enemies knows that someone is ther, because it's a blind and spotting thing. But..
