Brilliant, one of the great engineering feats in NZ if not the world 🙂

I wonder if these two ran together as DA class locomotives

The DA is looking nice and clean. Always amazes me how a video like this shows the changes in track geometry as the two units move independently of each other. Of course a lot of that is the suspension reacting to the track changes but even so, it's hard to look at what is seemingly a straight (or curved) piece of track that appears to be free of dips and rises and can yet create this level of movement.

I think part of the illusion is caused by the camera being fixed to the Da. When she moves, the camera moves with the Da. When the Dc moves, it is different to the Da. I notice this when you in a carriage, looking at the carriage in front of you. The same illusion appears.

I think it is a great pity that a diesel locomotive is running on the electrified line.
a hybrid locomotive like the EuroDual from Stadler Rail could run the part with overhead line electrically and the rest diesel-electrically.
the video itself is beautiful and I like it

It was a special event for this 1957 heritage locomotive and heritage passenger tour train. The usual locomotives on this section are electric.

Why do you drive a diesel locomotive under the overhead line? That's completely absurd.

Thanks for the comment, this was a special heritage passenger excursion for our 1957 locomotive and 1930's carriages. The usual locomotives on this section are electric.
