    Iron(III) chloride: amzn.to/Whwhol
    Acetone: amzn.to/1r88TSx

    Amazon.com:
    Ferric Chloride Copper Etchant Solution: amzn.to/1vks6nq
    Acetone: amzn.to/1vDi5nL
    Dell C1660W: amzn.to/1vksCSv
    In this small video series I will show you how to make your own single layer PCBs at home. In this part I will show you how I transfered my design to the copper board with the help of a laser printer and an iron. The method is called "toner transfer".

    Really a great video. I use an iron with a setting of medium instead of high. Iron the board like ironing a shirt. works every time. .

    The video is really great but while removing the paper I recommend not to remove it in soapy water. once I had done the same my board was ruined after etching. use normal water. some soaps have chemicals which might disturb the process of etching. this is my personal experience.
    keep up the good work scott

    I don't have printer and no expensive drilling machining.
    I cut paper in a pattern to match the traces, then stick the paper on top of the copper laminate and spray paint it. Then i remove the paper and do the etching.
    This works for smd.

    I have used photo paper for this and it worked well. I used the cheapest Kodak paper and it wound up working the best because it held the toner well, holds more toner without bleeding, wasn't the waterproof stuff, and it peeled much more easily when wet. The more expensive "premium" paper like the epson stuff doesn't work because water doesn't easily wet it and the gloss interfered with the toner transfer.
    I also used a 1 part muriatic acid and 2 part peroxide solution for the etchant.

    Wait a minute...You said that if there are any intreruptions in the lines after the transfer of the ink to the copper board I can use a Sharpie to cover them up.So , does this mean that I can directly draw on the copper surface with a Sharpie (no printer) and then continue the process?

    • @vladomaimun
      @vladomaimun 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      You can but unless the circuit is very simple it's not a good idea. btw oil based paint might work better than a Sharpie.

    I laughed out loud when you said the transfer paper was total bullshit. I made hundreds of circuit boards growing up but have been using boards made in China for the last ten years with great results. However I have decided to go back to making my own boards as the craft is just as much fun as the finished results. Thanks for the reminder. I’m building an ESD gun on my channel I would like to see your version. Thanks Regards Chris

    If you leave a tiny film of acetone (I use nail polish remover) on the board before transferring, you will get a better result.

    It seems like you really enjoy a good elctrical challange.
    So I was wandering if you ever tried making a project with a home made pcb that had two layers. (What I mean is to make a PCB with a differebt copper trace on both sides).
    I am very interested in see what you come up with. I have a number of things I would like to try for myself. But the issue is getting everything together.

  • @thatguyontheright1
    @thatguyontheright1 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The first time using this, I used photo paper and while I got it to transfer, the paper left a film on the board which when I tried to remove it, it damaged the traces beyond repair. I have yet to try again, this time I'll use regular glossy paper (92 brightness) to see if that works better.

    You can use transparent thick plastic sheet (OHP sheet) to print board file. So no need to wash PCB after printing. If you use FeCl3 chemical with hot water, etching process will reduce form 10 minutes to 3 to 4 minutes only. :)

    • @superdau
      @superdau 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      John Galt
      In his case his "dremel" (which is a company name, not a name for a tool) is a "Proxxon". At all costs don't get the real Dremel drill stand (from the Dremel company). I used that for some time, but it's a piece of mostly plastic crap. Add to that the poor construction of the dremel tool itself (the bearings just sit in plastic so you get massive vibrations). The whole setup has so much play,that it's almost impossible to accurately drill holes in a PCB. It's so bad that I switched to a wood router (which has a 43mm neck) mounted in a drill stand (for drills with a 43mm neck), and still get much better results than with the dremel which is supposedly for "fine" work.

    Isn't it easier to use a CNC machine? I mean, 3D printers are all around the place, and they're just CNCs with extruders instead of drills. So the tech for moving something in 3 axis must be pretty cheap. Now only thing that matters, is there a proper software for controlling a CNC to make circuit boards.

      He did get a small x-carve that he said he was going to use for milling PCBs, he just hasn't made that video yet. Hopefully he will though, as many schools and maker spaces are starting to get them, and it would be useful information for anyone with access to one.

      Another cool way to make PCBs is using a laser engraver. The copper get's covered in carbon and then vaporized with the lazer, which gives etching quality PCBs but much faster.
      Tho i don't know how well does it with thick copper.
