Bennett Never Wanted To Be In Calgary & Johnny Was A Defensive Liability Whom Disappeared Every Playoff, I Would Have Loved Chucky To Stay! We'll Build A Competitive Young Team Now With Acquired Assets & Drafts!
@@HovaOhwatch the leafs now. Same story about to be replayed again, need to look at hockey as a business not as a “bring in older hockey guy who knows the old guys” gm. Only in the nhl. Look at mlb / nba / nfl…. Proper people in place. If flamers did that here, different story
I disagree, I think Chucky would've stayed if Gaudreau had stayed too. Gaudreau waffling, hemming and hawwing over whether or not he wants to resign with Calgary, leaving it right up until the last minute, and then ultimately deciding he's going to walk and we get nothing for his departure? That was WAY more of a kick in the teeth than Chucky wanting out. At least we got Weegar for Chucky. We got nothing but cap space for Gaudreau.
@@anonymousskunk Yeah, I agree. I think the way Gaudreau left was way more disrespectful. He KNEW he didn't want to stay, but waited until Free agency to finally say it. At least Chucky did sign, on the premise that he was traded, which he was. I never really cared for the guy, but at least his departure helped the team (get something back). Now if Huberdeau can ever really get going, even if he's just a point per game guy, then that trade won't hurt so much.
They wanted Frolick vs signed chucky long term. Plus above. Very bad mgmt. could have been had for cheap. Tickets in the 90s up until even including the cup run year were easily available and corporations felt bad actually inviting clients to the games because nobody actually wanted to watch them.
The Flames are in a rebuild. Whatever Connie, or anyone else has to say about it, you cannot lose Bennett, Toffoli, Gaudreau, Monahan, Tkachuck, Hanafin, Zadorov, Tanev, Dube, and Lindholm all in just a few years and NOT be in a rebuild.
Treliving screwed up our chances of keeping Chucky twice? First by bridging him to sign Frolik, and now this two-for-one revelation? Like everything else with Brad, running Chucky out of town was "a process".
The players get paid in American dollars, and the USD goes a lot further here in Canada than it does in the United States. The taxes are higher, but there's also no Provincial Sales Tax in Alberta. Cost of living is also much less in Alberta compared to the other Canadian NHL provinces, as well as some of the major US hockey markets like California and New York. I don't think the taxation is as much of an issue as many people make it out to be. If it was, all players would be scrambling to play for teams in Florida and Texas primarily.
This is more or less an indictment of Calgary's player development, support and asset management. Ask yourselves, why are all these same players doing so well everywhere else??? One player is just a coincidence, but this many?? If I was a young player, this would give me doubts.
@@randdomize858 Chucky, Monahan? Chucky fit in nicely and had that playoff run last year (plus this year). Monahan proved useful and was a difference maker again after we gave up. Hanafin signed that big deal. Tanev was huge for Dallas in Rd 1 & 2. Lindholm had a rough start in Vancouver, but came up big in Rd 1. Are you watching?
@@spockterwho Oh well that's totally different. I thought you meant young guys like Bennett that struggled here and developed into good players when they left.
@@randdomize858 In any case, some people (myself included) sometimes people just need a change of scenery to realize things. It's human nature. I'm just saying that management/ownership shouldn't get a free pass on what transpired.
That's true too. There are so many ifs to sort out. Players get traded all the time, and are expected to put up big numbers with their new club, but then it never really pans out. Look at all the hype around the Oliie Jokinen acquisition. We don't have a crystal ball, so we could never know what might have happened if he'd (Johnny) stayed.
Gaudreau was always a defensive liability, just look at McDavid's series winning goal in game 5 against the Flames. Johnny Hockey skated away from Draisital as the puck came up the boards to him, who then passed it to McDavid for the 1 timer.
Many ways to be effective defensively, especially being an undersized player. I know that play, it was a miscommunication between Lindholm and Hanifin. Go watch it again. He was covering the pass back to the D-man. Plus.. EVERYONE gets owned by McD and Leon -- they have 100+ points every year for a reason
This is just a complete fallacy considering that year he was I believe somewhere in the plus 60 range and had never played a better season defensively but yes he was at a position on the McDavid goal. Both can be true
No, Chucky wanted to be here, but they wanted Froleak. Who you ask? Yeah. Go look him up because he's not in the NHL because no team actually wants him. Except of course the flames.
How do you make that mistake? A bag of chips versus somebody that is the top 10, 20 player in the NHL? If you make that mistake, you literally do not know or understand hockey.
@@IGotWorkToDo1600 I don't know about that. I'd prefer EDMONTON to win the cup over TURTLE I think. Even REMPE is from Calgary/Alberta so I am cheering for the RANGERS over TURTLE.
This issue resides 100000000000% from ownership. And ownership alone. They’re always and have always been what’s held the team back.
I was upset getting rid of Bennett- cgy under tre had the poorest asset management in recent flames history.

Amazing draft picks, unbelievably low retention. Treliving in the end….was garbage

Its all about Canadian income taxes
Most people don’t realize that.

In some ways we did look at Huberdo's stats.
I mean, Bennett was good in the playoffs, everyone knew that. But he constantly drew too many pims
That Johnny ended up in Columbus can't be by intention
Yes he grew up in Jersey but Columbus is still miles off
should have given Chucky the C and extend. Wasn't going to go deep with Johnny ever
