Also an actual comment. This is my favorite RE. it’s so weird. It’s like the ff8 of RE games where the ideas were neat but never fully realized. That and Steve was… a lot. His voice was so cringe. Alfred was pretty cool. I honestly liked how outlandish he was as a villain. And plane tyrant. I still love this game tho.
Not to mention the opening cutscenes, weapon variety, the dual wielding mechanic, the Rodrigo subplot, Alexia's first form.... Everything down to the documents and the battle mode gave the game so much character and individuality! Code Veronica is a gem and it DESERVES to be remade in the same vein as the original resident evil, but MAYBE in the re engine
Was always my favourite resident evil. It’s so annoying that it gets ignored even tho it’s the original RE3 I do disagree with the fire extinguisher thing tho, the fact that the item persists in your inventory when used keys get thrown away is a dead giveaway. I always loved that CV doesn’t hold your hand, it added a level of difficulty that RE games have never matched up to since. Really made it feel like every choice had consequences
My first playthrough of Code Veronica took me about 6 or so years to finish. When I first played it I got stuck on this puzzle where you go in a basement room have to grab and turn a dial in a circle. At the time I first played it I was about 13-14 and hadn't encountered anything that a player could rotate in a circle before. I was used to the older resi style push block forward run to other side push block other direction method. My save file laid dormant until mid xbox 360 era. I loaded up my file ran down into the basement I think in the medical building and beat the puzzle first try without even having to think about it. Wild to think how far games have come.
Yeah, thr tank controls are weird, but you always go forward in whatever direction your looking, the iron maiden puzzle automatically directs your characters direction, so all you do is go straight
The biggest problem with CV (along with all the OG Resident Evil games) is those bleedin' door loading screen... You literally see them every 30 or so seconds and you end up absolutely despising them by the end of your play through.
@@JamesScholes That's why the PC ports of Resident Evil 1 and 2 are superior, since they let you skip door loading scenes. You can also do it in REmake with a mod, but I don't know if it's possible on PC version of RE3.
Although CV is a great game, those Dreamcast sales hurt. Even with PS2 sales of CV, combined, it fell short on making it a top ten RE game. I do think and hope they make a remake. Remake's are a cash cow for Capcom and easy money considering the plot, characters, and story is basically already written.
Code Veronica was a blast with real 3D graphics for the first time! The Story was so well integrated! Of course it had some flaws but with a Remake we could have the all important Code Veronica Remake! I hope it matters for casual gamers as well as for us day 1 RE Fans! p.s: I like games where you have to think and explore and not the game do it for you! And there is enough Ammo for good players! I like respawning like you get better in defeating them! Yes! A Remake should have some of the new stuff but i hope they have some good old Modes for us.
Great video. Another great survival horror channel on the rise. That said, please mix your voice a bit higher in editing, man. Your videos are much quieter than usual, requiring increasing the volume a lot, while also having very loud portions, making it challenging to not wake up neighbors at night. Also, when your video ends and a video from another creator starts, I get deaf instantly.
I think that plane tyrant was the most I've ever locked in for a boss fight. Like, literally saved all the BOW rounds, used them on it before the plane only to spend ages trying to fight that thing with limited resources. But damn it was satisfying when it was over.
Ezzi you're awesome! I wish you had more subs, hope to see you grow in the future, I wonder what you think about the MGS series as a whole. Maybe something to tackle in the future? Either way I'll be here to see it.
Remake Code Veronica and I’ll be extremely happy. I’d especially would love to have it done with passion and love put into it like the way that they did RE2 and RE4 remake
They have to remake this game cause its connected to re 1 with wesker turning on stars and dying. Claire looking for chris etc and chris and wesker going into re 5 and then re 6 with Jake
Code Veronica is so important! They can't not Remake Code Veronica! I hope they bring it back BIG TIME!!! Capcom Devs. got new Threadripper CPU's for the Remake Dev. Team so it smells like new stuff is coming soon!
Unlikely on Code Veronica remake, it's not Capcom they will skip CV remake and focus on 9 or 5 remake. So, Capcom will leave the CV in the closet for all eternity and that never seen the light of day ever again.
I share the sentiment that it should be remade precisely because of its problems. Also I never understood why they couldn't just call it Resident Evil 3 Code Veronica and have two RE3s, since both are canonical.
Capcom had a deal with Sony that all numbered resident evil sequels had to be on Playstation first. By the time of resident evil 4, that deal had ended.
I beat this on Dreamcast and PS2. So as an eleven and thirteen yearold. Knowing so many people gave up on it, makes me proud lol! But I followed the series growing up getting the first two when i was 8.
Code Veronica is easily the hardest RE game. CV is definitely one of my favorite RE games. Playing this back in 2000 there were no google searches you could do to help you during a delema. CV does not hold your hand throughout the game, which makes this true Survival Horror in every sense of the word. No other RE game makes you pay by starting your game over if you are not conservative with your ammo. If you don't leave Chris with enough weapons, you have to start the game over. And to top it off you have limited saves throughout the the game. More Survival Horror games should be made like this... I cannot wait for the remake.
Back in 2000 when the game came out, my dad printed out a walkthrough off some chat site. Blew my mind honestly since i was 6, but loved watching him play
The player should know not to leave the fire extinguisher behind, thats a rule in RE games, never leave any items behind and keep them all in a storage box.
It's a shame that Resident Evil Nemesis got the number 3 in the title, instead of Code Veronica, when Nemesis is the spin-off and Code Veronica is the sequel. But since Nemesis is officially the third game, Code Veronica is only seen as an unimportant spin-off, when it is an important mainline game.
Not really, Nemesis is the 3rd entry, but Code Veronica is a spin-off, never a number entry being long and having a painful backtracking on where to go. So CV is a spin-off and 3 a prequel to 2 and how Raccoon City will be gone thanks to Umbrella.
Also....I had a friend who got all the way to the end but left all the guns with Claire..... unless he was gonna knife the final boss to death ( he didn't) he basically soft locked himself in the game......there was no way to know this being that this was when the game came out for the Dreamcast.....I learned from his mistake tho lol
Nah give us Outbreak. Now we got the capabilities. Remake this before bringing us another multiplayer "spin off" mode that no one asked for and gets abandoned 2 weeks after early access
I’ll be honest: I don’t love this game. Every time I revisit it I find myself frustrated and dissatisfied. Your review, however, I love. Great retrospective.
They must remake re1 first if any one wants too feel for chris bc resident evil 7 and 8 don't do that good of a job telling what happened 20 years ago in the Spencer mansion then weskers character will be flushed out to new people
I beat this game just recently and I'm sorry to say, but this game did not age well compared to its ps1 counterparts imo. Every boss fight was frustrating as hell and as you said in the video, there were many bad design decisions throughout the game. It's why I held off playing it until it was on sale for just $5 on PS Store. The atmosphere, characters, story, music and puzzles were fine but the gameplay wasn't as good as RE1-RE3 imo. I'm still glad I played it. It's at best B- or C tier game. This game was *more in need of a remake* instead of RE4. 25:20 I can feel the frustration right there. God.
Also, while i wouldn't blame the game for this, the 3D hasn't aged as well as the pre-rendered backgrounds from re1-3. The games all show their age nowadays, but the art direction of re2 and 3 in particular holds up a lot better than the much more bland and less detailed environments from CV. this isn't necessarily me saying that CV should have been another game with pre-rendered backgrounds, to be clear. I'm sure CV looked impressive at the time. But now that we live in a time where the games all look outdated, the ps1 games are just a lot more interesting to look at.
