RE Zero was the first RE game I played myself rather than watching siblings/friends playthrough while covering my eyes with my hands if it got too scary. There were definitely some parts that were still a little intense (anytime one of the leech Marcus enemies spawned usually) because even in my twenties I was a big scaredy-cat. I think having the two characters together were really comforting for me; it was like playing with a friend.
Enrico wandering around Racoon Forest... somehow making his way to the Lab underneath the sewers in Racoon City... then back out to the tunnels under the Mansion/Guard House. That Umbrella underground sky tram system must be legit AF
I started playing the Resident Evil series with Resident Evil Zero because it plays chronologically earliest in the story and basically shows how it all began. Also it was released for players aged 16 and older instead of 18 and older and I was only 17 at that time. By the time I would finish RE Zero I thought I could play the Resident Evil remake and Resident Evil 4 for GameCube then and I was convinced of these games and became a fan myself then.
I feel like it's wasted potential. We knew about RE1, the mansion, the scientists underneath it and their virus that got out because they fucked up. And Bravo team who were all killed before this. This promised to be a prequel that could've been fascinating. But rather than shed light on any of this, it takes us MILES away and tells us some whole contrived story about a bunch of leeches who think they're James Marcus who cosplay as a younger version of him while singing opera atop a mountain in a white gown to control other leeches. The outbreak rather than being rogue scientiests being overambitious suddenly becomes an intentional sabotage by a maniacal aristocrat within conspiracies over Marcus, Wesker, Birkin and Spencer. The story doesn't add to RE1 but in fact takes away from it. The character arc for Rebecca contradicts RE1. And the gameplay, while a very interesting way to switch things up, is just a chore with environments that fail to capture the glory of iconic RE locations and a gameplay loop that after this many games has unfortunately just got old. Throw in some uninspired boss fights and you have one of my least favorite RE games. Mostly because the idea of a prequel is such wasted potential
I'm planning on finishing all the main games of the series and I just finished this one. I found some parts of the game boring and tedious so I had to come to TH-cam in order to check if I was alone on this one... Great review and I liked your choice of background music, it reminded me of the original Demon's Souls Nexus theme!
I think the Leechman music is actually stock music or incredibly similar to the music that plays when Wolverine is jumped in X2 Wolverine's Revenge by Sabertooth.
I personally really love this game. It's a shame Bravo team didnt get the attention they needed but tbh, outside of Jill, Chris, Wesker and Barry, Alpha team didn't get too much focus either! I feel like the "Normal" enemies is also in line with what RE1 set with the exception of the leeches OFC. Rebecca being exhausted in RE1 makes sense because of this game, and she probably keeps quiet about what happened to spare BIlly! It defo could have been fleshed out more but for what it is I still enjoy it a lot! :D
RE: Spirit Tracks, looking back, definitely gives off strange fanfiction vibes. Not that I mind. I hadn't ever thought about the potential design connection between the leechmen from 0 and the molded from 7 until partway through this. I wonder if it's been talked about?
Personally I've always enjoyed RE Zero, it's definitely one of my favorites of the Old School RE games, yet it's hard to escape the feeling that RE1's story made much more sense before RE Zero, when it was implied that the STARS Bravo Team, Enrico, Forest, Kenneth, Richard and Rebecca fled directly into the Spencer Compound from the helicopter crash site with Edward being killed by a pack of Cerberus just outside the Mansion, what's worse is that RE1 Remake plays out as though RE Zero NEVER HAPPENED, as though it was all just a nightmare/fever dream that Rebecca had
The grappling hook is only ever needed twice in the hole game, but the game never tells you that you will never need it again, and that can become a problem on a first blind playthrough. You might end up dragging the grappling hook all through the game, not knowing that you will never need it again
Just as the other dude said I also liked rebecca and hated everything else. Last year on a new year holidays I replayd REremake and had no issues beating Chris campaing on v.hard having only two really hard parts of the game and then I tried Zero. Hadn't had major problems. I dodjed leeches and spiders. I spent all my handgun ammo on zombies and dogs. When the monkeys appeared atfirst they soaked all my g.launcher rounds and then shells. I ran out of healing items just at the part where rebecca falls into a pit and i had to run through the monkey corridor with no ammo and herbs. The game was dropped after the hunters in a labyrinth. Where REremake allowed to clear one path and use it as much as you want Zero puches you in your balls with leech rooms which you either come one by one with a chance of getting hit or you use molotovs that are useable only against leeches and spiders. I forgot to grab some ammo on the 2F not far from checkmate board and after the monkeys spawned I tried to obtain them and the only thing I obtained is a pile of shit cause they aren't dodjeable and I couldn't spare 3-4 shells on one monkey to get 7 shells. To compare you could use your stuff more rationally like kill 2 zombies with one flashbang or ignite two zombies with one part of gas. The game itself is good but in my opinion if a guy plays 11+ years in RE games, beat almost every part of series, finished REDC's advanced mode 3+ times with Chris and Jill shouldn't have such issues with ammo. I do understand that I had my problems because of there's no item box but the sheriff is not bothered with the indians' problems.
I enjoyed 0 a lot, I didn’t mind having to play between Billy and Rebecca. it was fun being able to change it up. I do agree about the hook shot lol. That got tedious and especially around the laboratory when you needed it after the infected bat and then needing it again shortly after again. the story I liked a lot and the weapon selection was a little more interesting too. loved the Molotovs and then the hunting gun plus some of the extra weapons after beating the game. over all I enjoyed the game a lot. lol and just a side note. For once we had a resident evil game that didn’t give us just like 4-5 giant spiders. Felt this one had waaaay more compared to the later titles. Although I do give RE1 remake cause we had the black tiger and the mining area that had some more of that but overall having the majority enemies being insects/ arachnid family it was pretty cool honestly 👍👍👍
Wesker mode is absolutely goated, I wish more games let us replay the campaign as one of the game's villains.
"I liked rebecca, hated everything else" is iconic, but not as iconic as you and this video. great job as always!!!
Grappling hook, grappling hook and grappling hook.
At least it’s nice to see Billy play the piano.
Thank you for giving me a chance to help with this video Ezzi! You truly make top notch vids 💙
I want to know what you learned about leeches and opera.

Sick Video, Sick voice, Sick production bruh!
Loved this video Ezzi! Would be really cool if they gave the Remake treatment to RE:0 someday.

The eliminators technically aren't monkeys. They don't have tails.
But this is RE rules, so does it really matter?
Legitimately this game would go from a 2/10 to a 7/10 if it just had the item box system.
And it would be even better if the main antagonist wasn't a Pavarotti wannabe
