The statement that person made told us all that they are insecure, envious and ignorant. Just because someone does things in a way that isn’t for us, doesn’t mean they’re “wrong”….it just means they are different. We have lived debt free for the past 20+ years and we choose experiences over things. We put our kids through school/college. We take our kids/grandkids on great vacations regularly. We’re retired now and can afford to travel the world (before 2020 obviously🙄) and we are saving to help all of our grandchildren pay for college or trade school or whatever higher education they choose. We couldn’t care less about “things” per se because when you’re gone, most of that stuff gets tossed anyway🤷🏻‍♀️

Bring frugal is totally worth it. We all go through feast and famine times. I'm not denying myself fun or luxuries. I'm just planning for long life where I can support and secure our family.
If some see that as nickel and dimeing my life into a joyless penny pinching lifestyle, that just shows they don't know me at all.
I have a vase and faux flower arrangement in my home that cost me like $125. Its completely useless, but I love the hell out of it. I purchased that dumb useless eye candy with my ibotta rebates a few years ago. It brings me hella joy. I'm just wise about my money. Most fun in the moment spending in my youth is viewed through my personal lense of regret.
Others may not regret their spending choices, but I definitely do. Especially vacations that ended up being stressful or not living up to my expectations. I could probably buy a house with the money I spent traveling in my 20's before I got married and NOT going home to visit my parents who died while I thought I had all the time in the world.
My experiences have shaped my perception and choices. It is 100% fine if they don't fit yours. It is not fine to act like there is a one size fits all lifestyle that is superior. Not everything is going to make everyone happy.
My husband took our kids to a second hand kids clothes store and let them each pick 10 things without limits other than it needs to be in or near their size and decent condition. We can't afford to let them do that in a regular store and it was a great rewarding experience for them and us to watch. Sometimes choosing a frugal option means you can get MORE and an experience you otherwise couldn't afford.
Different strokes, I pay for delivery on groceries A LOT because I don't enjoy being in stores. I was in a shooting that happened at a mall in my 20's and the price of shipping and delivery outweighs the anxiety of crowded shopping centers for me as an individual. Thats just ME. To someone else its a waste. I wouldn't expect anyone to understand or think its a frugal use of money. It definitely isn't, I know statistically the chances of getting shot again is near nothing. Its just worth it to me.
    Let people live.

It amazes me when people decide to dissect a person’s life through their own lens of assumptions and prejudices and then lecture that person about it. I believe it’s called pidgin-holing while patting oneself on the back. Whoever that person was got a whole lot of pleasure out of the exercise which is probably their goal. I hope their arm fell off after they got done congratulating their cleverness. Playing devil’s advocate here: what if everything that they said about you was true? SO WHAT? If doing that makes you or someone else happy, then so be it! My brother-in-law loves doing yard work all the time and I don’t, but I don’t criticize him for it. My one observation about that person who felt like it was their duty to lambast you, Christine is that they obviously haven’t been watching many of your videos. I have and nearly everything you pointed out in this one, I already knew about you and your family. So, I hope that person or someone else who thinks like them got their facts straight. I believe that this person won’t even see it because they’ve probably moved on to criticize another TH-camr’s channel and their content. I think you rock and you are so funny. I’ve learned a lot from you. Much love, Christine ❤️

Thrive mascara is amazing! Have to order it online but it’s a tubing mascara. It doesn’t flake off like all other mascaras! Lengthens lashes and just rolls off when you take it off. My daughter and I love it! And anyone who has an issue with how you choose to live your life…well, is an idiot. Everyone needs to do what works for them. I have personally learned so much from your channel. Thank you!

I agree with this 110%. I always try to over tip especially if I find out it's a single mom or student putting themselves through school. One of my goals after getting debt free is to be able to leave a lot of very generous tips to bless others.

I love watching your videos on how to save money! My husband and I just paid off our mortgage - 9 years early! We scrimped and saved, but now it's our house - not the banks! We have some projects we want to do (updating carpeting, redoing the deck, etc) that we will save for and when we can pay in full, then we will do it. And now that we don't have a mortgage, that will be easier and quicker for us. I don't understand the grumpy comment you featured - it's not as if you are ordering your "minions" what to stop spending money on! Keep the videos coming!

The frugal vacation in Prague was one of the best in my life. We could afford so much more by staying in a guest house and eating sandwiches for breakfast and salads we made ourselves. We spend the money on seeing things, going around the city on a boat. And it was a cool vacation. And being frugal and saving for it was the only reason we could afford it in the first place.

I agree with you in being frugal to be able to save for the things you really enjoy. It also brings peace of mind when you are able to pay your bills on time. We worked hard to be frugal, which allowed us to buy our house, then pay it off. I only wish I knew what I know now, when I was younger, but it was better late than never on being frugal. Thank you for all of your budget food videos, as they never get old and inspire those who watch them.

I thank you for the ideas you share!

I scrimp and save each and every "regular" day so that when I vacation I can stay in suites, eat extravagant dinners, do things without thinking about how much they cost, and have vacation memories that are so above and beyond. I will always treasure them. I value these vacations and time with my family,so for me it is worth it to "nickel and dime" the Tuesdays of a particular week to get there.
Secondly I like you, don't obsess about nickel and diming, but if I am honest I do gamify it. So if anything it is a hobby and fun, not a burden.

Here's the thing: we all spend money on something. But few of us have so much disposable income that we can afford it all. So we save in one area so we can spend in another area. My book budget is low (library!), my clothes budget is small (few pieces but of good quality so it lasts), and my craft budget is low (2020 notwithstanding), so that I can pay for convenience. I have severe arthritis, so I pay for pre-chopped veg and housekeeping services to make my life easier. We all choose what is most important.

I'm glad that person commented because this was a great video! I so appreciate your candor and openness to all of your viewers. It was also good to see the side of you that does splurge and what you like to splurge on and why. There will always be people in the world who don't get it, and bless them if they have so much means that they never have the need to be frugal in order to reach their financial goals, or God help them if they surf a wave of debt to get things now and pay later. Personally, I love your approach for those of us who work hard and are working towards our own financial goals but find it a struggle sometimes. Your videos have great content that is always fun, helpful and inspiring. I think the most important thing is the example that you are setting for your children. They are not spoiled and they are happy, healthy humans. That is what I want for my family, too. Keep up the great work! 🌷

Me: same! I am super frugal on many things but dang, I love really nice cooking pans. Last year I spent $75 on a large pan. I really hemmed and hawed about it for 30 minutes at the store before I just pulled the trigger. I have not been sorry once. I tend to splurge on experiences. And, I have a top 10 list of things I’d grab on my way out the door if my house caught on fire. To each their own. I love how you responded to the comment. Love, love, LOVE your channel!

This month I splurged on furniture for the first time in my life. I was buying $20 shelves for storage, and finally decided to spend around $100 on a baker's rack. OMG. Turns out furniture you spend a bit more on is more stable and hearty. It also had less pieces to put together. That amount of money won't be impressive to most people, but since I'm on a fixed income it really is. I won't be able to do it all the time, but this was a real learning experience.

My, what a mean-spirited comment! But you rose to the occasion and answered it magnificently. It's obvious to me that your family is happy, healthy and well-fed. Frugality often gets confused with tightwaddery; frugality is being careful with money and spending it to its best advantage, where tightwaddery is about hoarding cash and suffering as a consequence (as in a post I once read about a father who issued ONE SQUARE OF TOILET PAPER to each family member per bathroom visit!). As Amy Dacyczyn of the Tightwad Gazette pointed out, the goals we aim for via frugality differ greatly from person to person, and they are all valid. Love your videos (especially the little video vignettes you insert as commentary)! Keep doing you, girl, it's working for ya!

I’m not a runner but I started wearing brooks ghost when I started as a nurse working 12+ hour shifts at the hospital. I no longer work at a hospital but I have not stopped wearing brooks ghost shoes. My son joined the cross country team this year and I kept telling him he needed a good running shoe. I could just tell by watching him walk in the shoes he currently had were not supportive. My son is very frugal (he gets that from his dad not me 😆) and couldn’t see us paying such a high price for shoes. I finally ordered him a pair with a discount code and some rewards I had. He loved the shoes and said he wasn’t getting knee pain like he was before. He tried to wear his other 2 pairs of shoes just for normal wear to save his running shoes but he said he couldn’t because he could tell the difference just from walking in his old shoes. 🤣🤣🤣 I created a shoe monster now. LOL I enjoyed watching your splurge list.

I'm so glad Christine read this comment and laughed. She's a secure woman and doesn't let criticism bother her. We all value different things in life. If you don't want to be frugal, then don't watch, and go wild with your money. Being frugal is a philosophy, or a way of life. It's thinking about what is 'worth it'. I totally get Christine because why pay more for food items when you are still getting it but at a fraction of the cost? Why spend money on things that don't bring you joy? And this person who said, 'and what retire early'. I laughed at that comment because OMG, is she for real? I would love NOTHING more than be young and devote my time to hobbies and relaxing. That is pure joy to me - being the boss of me. I love Christine's tips and I love going to the Dollar Tree and all the budget stores to buy stuff that works and is cheap. I enjoy saving money and then having money for things I really love. While my wardrobe is dismal - I only shop outlet stores or wear $5 t shirts most of the time. If I spend more than $30 on clothes, it's kinda surprisingly. I try never to go to Starbucks and make my coffee on my Keurig at home, because spending $5 on coffee is stupid. But I drive a brand new car that I paid for in cash. To other people's it's not worth it, but to me it is. I will never stop being frugal in my own way.

Let's face it, there are some people who would do a crummy job if there were no financial incentive. This attitude is on full display everywhere else. At least with servers, the good ones make the bucks and they stay and get even better at their jobs. The bad ones move on to work at the gas station next door where they can be nasty all day and no worries about tips.

So i walk, speed walk, baby attempt jump roping, do arm exercises with the rope, ... just for movement. It gets me or keeps me out of my chair for a bit of time. I love this. This is how I live my life and how I was raised. My parents bought cars that would last them 10+ years. They would look awful toward the end, but they still ran. This and other things I'm sure people wondered why they didn't get newer, bigger, "better" because they could afford it, but it didn't matter to them. What did matter to them was giving us experiences. Whether it was sports, music, trips and even dining. These were things they prioritized above their house or cars. I try to do the same with my family now. 🥰
