Mate… words of advice if you want to become a CPO join the Royal military police then move into CP in the army as you’ll get to travel or join the Met Police and complete your probation and move into royalty protection which again allows you to travel the world.

@@SnoobleNooblei dont think he needs to join the met for that, and if its not his local constabualry im not going to advise anyone to pack their bags and move out of their home county for this. I think the other constsbularies have the ssme departmenr requirements as well, so he could probbly join the local force and do it. And the "join the army" requires he neet fitness demands and wsnt to put up with army bullshit and no gurantee youd get thay job as its a elrctive once in service if i recall, in a similar manner to the police.

I was planning on doing this course last year. I ws very exited to talk to this 1 chap who was providing the training for this. Where i was about to emrol onto the course. He told me the same thing you just explained in the video. Which got me the ball rolling. Then i spoke to some other training providers who guve me an honest advice yiu can do the course but i will not grt a job in cpo because they will only consider cpos with a military or police background. So how can one invest 2 to 3k on a course not guaranteed any work when the DS license os enough. Plesse explain

I was in the army earlier this year but left during basic training (was in for like 4 months), I been thinking, as I don't wanna do 4 years in the army, thinking I might join the reserves and apply after a year or two but don't know if that's enough to suffice for "a military background". Hope all is well with you though now.

You are correct. My good friend worked in the industry for a number of years & did some high end work with Middle Eastern VIP's. It could be shopping trips to Harrods or arrival & departures from airports. He was ex-police & most of his colleagues were ex-military. The really high end work was done by former special forces operatives. He said you had to have very good contacts to get into the business.

Yes you are absolutely correct. The trainer does not tell you this but the truth is this sector of security is the preserve of persons with either a military or police background. I over the years have come across so many CP Licence holders who are just doing door work. So they want us to pay thousands of pounds for a licence that will only make us glorified doormen? If one wants to go into close protection I would suggest doing close protection training in another country. I recommend the Security Institute Of Ireland, who for the first time are doing a European internationally accredited CP course. This is particularly useful in this post Brexit aftermath as the SIA Licence only applies to the UK. I will be doing my training with these people at some point. I no longer have any faith in SIA training or working in the UK security sector.

im currently a DS and the salary is the same/similar as a CPO

Have you noticed all security training and roles in the UK require security guards to stand with their hands clasped and rubbing them sheepishly and nervously? How does that secure public confidence? I thought that in the training they say your body language must match what your are saying?

@@fr5335 absolutely in-factual and false, you don’t need 10 years in retail and corporate security to become a cpo, also have you forgot about door supervision? That’s a lot more conducive to success as a cpo than working in the local Tesco lol
