As an American who had been to Indonesia... Just do it! It will be the experience of a life time just like it was for my mother and I. My best friend moved there after traveling around for a few years. Hearing him talk about it i knew i had to go. I do recommend staying for as long as you can. The airfare will be more than the cost of staying there for a whole month. You can rent a fully furnished apartment for a month there for less than 2 nights at a hotel here in the states. Most of your meals (total for two people) will be less than $5 unless you go to a gourmet restaurant in a city, then it might be as high as $20. We took a luxury shuttle from Jakarta to Bandung (2.5 hour ride) for $10 per person. Plane ticket from Jakarta to Bali was $35 ($50 without discount fare). Stayed at a 5 star that looks like a Renaissance castle in Bandung for $45 per night (but you could stay at a small hotel for $12). Stayed at a 4 star hotel in Bali literally ON Kuta beach for $25 per night. It was awesome going down to buffet breakfast and eating with beach air on your face and the sound of the waves right in front you from our table. All that is just to say it's far more affordable than you can imagine. The real experience is just wandering around. Going to the malls, little family owned shops. Going to the beach or a cafe in the old parts of town. Visiting GWK is a MUST... but when we would just go for a walk to see the neighborhoods, every single time my mom stopped to rest her knees she ended up getting into a conversation with a local who genuinely wanted to exchange experienced and culture. You could easily make more me friends in one day in Bali, or Bandung, or Yogyakarta, or Palembang, or anywhere in Sulawesi or Borneo than you would in an entire year here in the states! We miss it so much we are going back next year and my mother is pretty sure she'll never come back... and neither will I. 😂
Oh, and literally EVERYTHING you eat from anywhere, whether it be local Indonesian (which is actually multiple cuisines such as Sundanese, etc.) or any world cuisine (French, Italian, Chinese, Japanese, Thai, Vietnamese, you name it) it will all be freaking delicious! We were there for 6 weeks and never had even a mediocre meal.
We definitely hope to someday. This all sounds amazing. We are in over our heads in student debt and other debt at the moment. No fault but our own, but we really are working hard to get out before we can do something like this. Not to mention our car is not the greatest. A lot we need to focus on financially before we can travel. Once we can Indonesia is at the top of our list 💚
Really? When we went it was $600 per ticket (from Missouri). It was at the trailing end of COVID (Feb 2022), though, and a lot has changed since then. 😕 (Edit: Just did a quick check and if you choose off peak days to fly it's around $1200 per person round trip, so same as we paid, but that is still a lot of money. That's why I said you'll spend less for the entire month staying there in luxury than you will for the plane tickets. 😅 ) Hopefully your hard work on TH-cam will help you be able to catch up on your debts and start saving up for travel adventures. Seeing the world is a real life changer, in a good way. Beat of luck to you both. You've got one more fan. 😁
@@RNTVIt's crazy to hear "student debt" we don't have that here in Indonesia. We have free education bill (government school), except university (still very cheap), free medical bill. Basically education and healthcare are free of charge here.

You are right... indonesians are very proud and love our homeland, despite their differing tastes, cultures, indigenous languages but we are one Indonesian, one country, and one struggle our heroes truly appreciate.
