Very nicely done video, but you got the opposite of what you where doing this for. 1. The stock tubes *directly* routed fresh, cool air into the engine because the ducts are completely enclosed right up to the openings in the deck above the radiator. This is an optimal situation. 2. You removed this direct routed fresh air system and installed a a system where the filters will draw under hood hot air into the engine. The heat shields MIGHT protect the filter from engine heat, but the filters can only draw in hot under hood air, and a very minimal amount of fresh outside air because the filters are in an open space and just draw in the easiest air which is all around it. 3. The reason the factory ducts, even on a Mercedes, are plastic is because plastic is a poor conductor of heat, ESPECIALLY compared to aluminum. Aluminum is an incredible conductor of heat. It will heat soak quickly, and will transfer that heat to the air flowing through it and into the engine. This hot air entering the engine is less dense and contains less oxygen. Because of this, the burning of fuel in the cylinders makes less power. You are now no longer drawing in ONLY fresh, cooler air from outside, and are now instead drawing in hot under hood air (less dense) and *heating* that hot air with the aluminum tubes to make it even hotter (even less dense, less oxygen). The engine can only make less power because of physics.
I hope that gives insight into what's going on here. I didn't just want to join the others in saying "this doesn't work like you thing," but instead I wanted to give the all the reasons of what is actually happening here. So that you don't think I am someone else who "doesn't know better,"....I graduated from an auto tech school, did it for a living for a while, have built several muscle cars, and have worked on cars of all generations for the past 40 years between maintaining and repairing my own cars, my family's cars, my wife's family cars, as well as friends and coworkers.
All that being said, you did do a really good job making this video. As I said earlier, nicely done.

the stock tubes imo are the most advanced technology by car engineers. i was gonna do this but then i realized it's gonna be the best bet if instead of removing the frontal tubing originally engineered... just keep it in and get a K&N filter for the inside of the filter casings. this is gonna free up a lot of air over the paper filters and be louder and keep the frontal tubing as engineered by the guys making these vehicles run so smooth to begin with.

Okay, I get it, my dude. Not throwing shade at all.
That being said.. hi, highschool physics here! Those heat shields will never perform as well as pre trans/ coolant radiator air.
(Again, no offense, but you sound young so peacocking > performance might be your priority.
Larger scoops pre radiator and larger circumference with directors (some may call them impellers but they are agitators technically) leading into the box would perform so much better.
That being said, insulate and line the box with something that has low thermal conductivity.

The hot air is being sucked in because you put those on there and now they are sucking much hotter air from the engine bay than the stock hose were ,which were sucking cold fresh air from the outside .Hot air is less dense ,which means it has less oxygen which decreases the output of the engine.Get a thermostat and tape it inside the hose of both..you will see a much hotter temp going in to the engine off those cold air intakes then the well designed stock set up ...Buy hey ,they look cool ,now you will get less gas mileage and a slight decrease in hp ...especially in hot weather conditions
