      This comment just made me imagine bar chords on the lute you're playing in the video.

      I do not, except on an old former 12 string with ridiculously high action (that's already been lowered once. I liked it because when I first got it, it sounded like a harpsichord.)

    Nice! I was liking this piece too after recently finding it in a collection of "easy" baroque lute music. I've been playing at 415 but curious to try 392 now.

    Somber and evocative. What is the approximate date on this? Do you find yourself using historical reference pitch(es) more?

    • @brandonacker
      @brandonacker  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I wish I knew the approximate date. I just know its from the Baroque period and from a Swedish manuscript.
      Yes I love using historical pitches especially 392. I think these instruments sound great with very low tension and suspect its what the lute players at the time did.

    Good vid. BTW, how much loot is needed to buy a lute?

    • @brandonacker
      @brandonacker  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Thanks! Good question. The instrument im playing here is one of the cheapest playable lutes you can get (around 2k euros). Most people play lutes ranging between 3-7k. You can buy something for 1k but its usually not playable.

    It's so resonant... Is that all in the instrument... It sounds like reverb or like you are playing in a church

    • @brandonacker
      @brandonacker  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The instrument does have a nice natural sympathetic resonance because of all the strings but I add a splash of reverb on my videos because the room in which I record is too dry.

    Just once one of these days, you should do a piece, but play it swung. I think that would sound sick

    • @brandonacker
      @brandonacker  2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I am swinging this piece actually! Its a technique called notes inegales. The eighth notes in French baroque music are written as even but you are meant to swing them which is what I'm doing here. Perhaps you would have to here it straight once to spot the swing.

    Я бы хотела услышать,
    Как ты играешь на лютне.
    В жизни прошлой ты явно играл...
    Романтические сарабанды...
    Душу мою трепетал...
    Драгоценные звуки,
    Объёмные,
    Даже не вердиев строй,
    А частоты платоновы,
    Нотами, разлетающимися
    В астрал...
    Мне признанья шептал...
    Пальцами в струны,
    Музыкой в душу,
    В сердце моё проникал.
    Я румянцами вспыхивала...
    И глаза опускала,
    Но дыхание моё выдавало волнение.
    Может помнишь ты эти мгновения...
    Как менестрелем играл,
    Воспевая любовные тайны.
