Since it was a lovely, sunny day in Dallas, there is no reason the bubble top would have been considered. This was necessary to create more room for the many tourists who visited his grave each year. A more secure “eternal flame” was also constructed at this time. When JFK’s body was moved to the new gravesite, the two children that the Kennedy’s had lost during their marriage were moved from Holywood Cemetery in Brookline, Massachusetts, and laid to rest alongside their father. Mary Karim, I agree that this was heartbreaking for President and Mrs. Kennedy. What makes it even more sad is the fact that Jacqueline Kennedy not only lost her precious child, but just a few months later, she also witnessed losing her husband to an assassin's bullet. After the loss of their baby Patrick, Mrs. Kennedy wrote a personal letter to her husband. In the letter, Jacqueline Kennedy wrote to her husband about her deep sorrow, and expressed to him that the only thing she would never be able to recover from is if she ever lost him. Just three months later, President Kennedy was assassinated in front of her. This letter made news when it was discovered that in the wake of his assassination, President Kennedy's trusted secretary, Evelyn Lincoln, had stolen not only the letter from President Kennedy's desk, but she had also stolen many more of President Kennedy's personal belongings. Lincoln sold a lot of the items, and gave many of the items away to friends as gifts. Only a small amount of the stolen items were recovered, and are now in President Kennedy's Library.

    Patrick was 39 hrs. old when he passed away. Many people think he was 3 days old but he didn't quite make it that long. JFK made it to the hospital before patrick died. Patrick was really suffering and was not going to survive. JFK was there as all the tubes and lines were taken out. He was able to hold his son for the first and last time. Clint Hill saw the baby in the hospital and said it was heartbreak to see this tiny baby covered with tubes and lines yet he struggled so hard to live. The Kennedy children were the first children to live in the White House in 50 yrs. Patrick was the first baby born in over 50 yrs to a sitting president sadly he never made it to the White House. Sadly three months later his father would join him. How Jackie withstood the death of three babies and her husband all while in her thirties is anyones guess. I'm glad she didn't live long enough to see her son John Jr. murdered too. What a sad, heart wrenching family story.

      Jeff Schwartz It's so sad and heart wrenching what that tiny infant went thru. My heart breaks for his father who could do nothing for his son except love him. I know all too well what they went thru b/c my son was born early and suffered with the same thing. But we were blessed being it was a different time. So many medical advances had been made since the 60's that have helped so many preemies not only survive but to grow up strong, healthy with no disabilities. In some cases they may have disabilities that were once severe that now are only mild to moderate. I don't want to get into the whole disabilities thing. The point is so much has changed medically for these wee ones that their chances of survival is so much greater. So many grow up to be happy, healthy, perfectly fine adults. I just wish what we have available to us and our children were available to children like baby Patrick and those before him. I do feel blessed and very fortunate that my baby lived and is big, strong and healthy.

    • @51Saffron
      @51Saffron 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don't think that was the sole cause of his death. Lots of women smoked back t hen, including my female relatives and t hey all gave birth to full term, healthy babies. Smoking didn't help Jackie, but a lot of premature babies have lung problems because they are not developed, has nothing to do with smoking since many women today do not smoke.

    • @suekelley2109
      @suekelley2109 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      She cut way down in the smoking during her pregnancy. The baby was 5 weeks early. I agree her smoking was a partial reason but she had a stillbirth, a miscarriage, John was born with lung problems and Patrick only lived 2 days . She was very thin for a woman 8 months pregnant. I was born in 1960 and when the GYN told my mom to quit smoking during pregnancy other doctors said that was ridiculous, smoking had no effect on babies . My mom did stop but started back as soon as I was born and didn’t stop again for 20 years. When the pediatrician told both parents then needed to stop smoking because I was asthmatic neither listened . I’m just happy I never started because it does seem to be a hard habit to break
