    I spent an hour in line at dairy queen for an ice cream cone, just because my wife wanted one. Ramen is always good.

    Fine road-side dining. I was waiting for you to find a couple of good trees, string up your hammock and take a little afternoon nap at the Rest Stop, that would have been epic! If you like Mac n Cheese, try adding a couple of cheese slices to your Ramen sometime, I use Velveeta myself.

    This is the thing Chris, it doesn’t matter where you pick to cook up some grub, you seem to make it look natural wherever. Here, the restaurants are not open inside yet. This beast of a virus is definitely something to be reckoned with. I think the world has a long way to go yet to let our guard down. Stay safe my friend. Thanks for sharing. Tony.

    Most people look for parking by the entrance, you look for the storm drain. Very nice addition of veggies to the Ramon noodles. Great video! Be safe!!

      @CarolinaChrisOutdoors  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ha Ha Ha!!!! The storm drain was an added bonus.... I usually try to find a place at the end of the lot so I can open my door and passerby’s can’t see what I’m doing 😉

    Ramen at a rest stop in the Carolinas. three of my favorite things ever.

  • @CrosbysCorner
    @CrosbysCorner 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I've actually been afraid of eating out in a while to be honest. Even before the COVID-19. I need to get one of those tine that you have but can't find one anywhere. I've been looking...
    You've inspired me getting a backpack, fire starters, and all kinds of things needed to cook in the woods - even some survival items. I keep the backpack in my truck and have had to use it 6 different times to be honest. Each time I was thankful I've watched your videos and picked things up here and there.
    Another great video, brother. I hope you had a wonderful Father's Day, brother.

    • @CarolinaChrisOutdoors
      @CarolinaChrisOutdoors  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Best to be prepared! I keep things in my car and my truck. Sometimes it may seem a little dumb but I use that stuff everyday for something! What was the thing you are looking for?

    • @CrosbysCorner
      @CrosbysCorner 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CarolinaChrisOutdoors Nah, It ain't dumb, brother. I would never have known how useful they are until I needed them. Again, because of you I was prepared. I thank you for that. I'm still getting stuff as I can. The latest item was a solar power panel to charge phones. Be honest I've needed it twice. It's a small one but worked very well.
      The item I've been looking for is the little cooking pot you have with the lid on it. I think there are other thinks that go with it but I haven't been able to find one like it.

    • @CheezeheadChris
      @CheezeheadChris 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CrosbysCorner you dont need a canteen cup to cook. They are actually kind of a pain to cook in cuz of their weird shape. Get yourself a Stanley pot and Ozark trails cup. You can pick both up at Walmart for around $20. Another option is check you local thrift stores for small pot with a cover. You can usually find something for a few bucks. Modify or take off the handle. Drill a couple holes and and make bail.

    • @CarolinaChrisOutdoors
      @CarolinaChrisOutdoors  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My pot is a military “Canteen Cup”..... they do not come with lids. My lid is a “Rothco” aftermarket lid that I modified to fit on my cup. You can buy the Rothco cup and lid at any Army store, or online. I have a lot of different cooking pots, but I like the canteen cup best because of the history of it.

    I love watching your car cooking videos as they are always interesting. I have not had take - out since the shutdown. The take - outs are open here now at 50% capacity eat in or drive through. The family has had take - out several times but I have not and have no interest yet. Those noodles are an excellent base or starting point for a nice inexpensive meal. The addition of some meat and vegetables and Texas Pete of course takes it ups a few notches........Take care, Mike.

    I’ve been thinking of grilling up a Steak somewhere using my FireBox 🔥Stove. I’ve made coffee in a parking lot before 😂 you can definitely get some strange looks. My wife & I don’t travel much, but a few years back we decided to just make something to eat rather then hit a restaurant. It’s a lot of fun & now we plan for it weather permitting.

      Thanks for watching and commenting Roger..... hard to beat an old original canteen cup. I never served, and I got this cup years ago at an Army store, but every time I use it I think about who may have used it, and what may have been cooked in it before. My mess kit is dated 1942, so when I use that, I REALLY wonder about it’s history. I think I’ll use my mess kit in the next car cook 😉

I eat that a lot during the hunting season when I'm at my camp alone and don't want to cook a big meal just for me. Ramen with jerky, chicken, or sausage is a great tasty meal. It beats most fast food, waiting in lines and just not knowing what's in the food you buy.

    That's better than survival drive through food anyhow. LOL... There is a couple of good local country cooking spots near that rest stop. If you hop off on #9 and head in the direction of Chester state park right at the highway is the Front Porch. It is next to the Golden M that shall not be named. About a block down is the Country Omelet. The Country Omelet has a lunch buffet. The buffet is in the kitchen you just tell the server what you want. If you enjoy getting out of the chain places they are worth trying out. I stop in there coming back from range trips at Leeds in Chester SC.

    Yesterday I made sausage/cheese/smooshed pinto bean/Texas Pete dip for my potato chips. Today, while looting the grocery's "garbage" I was taking out, here, in the box with the day old sandwiches was a container: Texas Pete Sausage & Cheese Dip! "No way!" I exclaimed.
    It's been very difficult to find chicken livers & beef kidneys for Scarf the last 3 months, as in, impossible. I bought the last pre-packaged frozen beef liver 3 weeks ago. Been to Costco, Aldi's, Lowe's foods, and of course my Food Lion. So I went to the Carneceria yesterday, fresh, mooshy beef livers. Mexican "butcher" and I talked about no pollo livers and shook our heads together like old wise men =)
    Day 22 no beer. I'm much better now. Tomorrow I get to "harvest" my Plantain oil I made 20 days ago. funny that I'm nervous it won't work, even though every other batch I made worked.
    Be well!

      I noticed at my F. L. grocery store the abundance of hamburger meat and chicken pieces, but no hearts/gizzards or livers. I’m guessing what they have is imported and the importers are keeping the chicken guts for the higher paying Asian market. I remember you stopped drinking beer, for your procedure but I don’t recall why you’ve continued to deny yourself. Is it health, or philosophical reasons? Just curious..... that’s great you stopped.... have you lost any weight?

    • @FlyingAxblade_D20
      @FlyingAxblade_D20 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CarolinaChrisOutdoors hmm, maybe that's why on the raw food forums everyone is telling me to go to Asian grocery.
      Yes, health & philosophy. WOW, just weighed myself, 16#'s in 23 days! No wonder I've got an appetite again =)
      In the first 5 days I lost an INCH of Bloat. The philosophy part is, with church & church functions mostly canceled, I have to be around family that much more which was fine for April & May. Health reason's because I was up to 1.64 gallons a day or more. Of 8%. I was happy, but getting melodramatic & snarky about world, national, & state events.
      Thank you kindly for inquiring.
      The comment stemmed from you having sausage, cheese, & Texas Pete in your mix.

    Brother Chris I got a bone to pick with you... mano e mano ... Do you normally drain the water then add the seasonings or just every now-and-then? I've been adding the seasonings with the water to get the noodles to capture the flavor while boiling then if I need some of the broth poured out, which is rare...or is it better to pout the liquid mostly then add the packet...with some or little moisture to keep all the flavor?...I just don't know...lol. You got the knock out punch of my brain trying to figure this out...flavor full strength or watered down...lol.

    • @CarolinaChrisOutdoors
      @CarolinaChrisOutdoors  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have never added my seasoning before draining most of the liquid out. At home, I’ll add a bit of butter, or olive oil with the seasoning. Most of the time I only use half of the pack. I see most people adding the pack to their water, but I just never have done that... try it!!!! You’ll be happy with the flavor!!!! (Don’t forget the hot sauce 😉)
