hey there - had the same problem. Figured out that you need the pufferfish plugin for grasshopper to get the bounding rectangle. Anyway great tutorial!
U need rhino 7.2 and above .u also miss multi pipe component in older version. if u want rhino 7 for free here th-cam.com/video/9SDQNVCKYRo/w-d-xo.html
try to convert your sub d into NURBS surface (this only work if ur sub faces all have 4 sided and have no pole )after that u can morph onto it. or u can convert ur sub d into mesh after that use dual mesh to get hexagonal grids
