Try learning akroasis solo by Tom Geldschläger. He has the legit tab on his playthrough. He hybrid picks like it is his job. Right up your alley!

Raf did such a good job on this record. Blew my mind when I read the album credits. The sweep sections and the titan heavy rhythms in this song are glorious. Best album of 2018 imo.
Best song on the album for me was Etherial Skies though!

Liked because 1) you have tiny midget hands like me and 2) you also go "oh, wft mate" when you see a tabbed out Obscura solo section despite the fact that you're a highly accomplished guitarist who's written some pretty gnarly sections yourself.
Our pianist asked me today why I make such faces when checking out things but now I see that it's not only me making intense facial expressions when learning the guitar :D

I saw you open for Obscura last year in Orlando, absolutely killer show! I was hoping this video would be for Vortex Omnivium, but I love this song too, so still awesome. Dean!!! I've met you a few times at some of your Texas gigs! Idk how I'm just discovering this series. This is a goldmine! Seeing a player of your stature grinding through a passage like this with the same success rate that I, myself, would have is really motivating. In a society where we are flooded by very de-motivating social media clips of guitarists playing some insane chops.. it's nice to get a dose of reality. You're the man!!

My brother said Archspire and Beyond Creation were the coolest ones, they all sat out and talked to people. The BC guitarist actually showed them new material. He said everyone from Inferi other than Malcolm was around, and Obscura wasn’t around at all they stayed backstage. I’m surprised Malcolm wasn’t around since he’s so involved personally online with the band and label.

Hey dean a lot of things I can tell you that you need to go watch the play through Rafael does, I can’t play it like he does I had to alter some of the shapes to be more cohesive for me, but, that almost very last bar where you’re doing the ascending alternate picking run it’s not alternate picked it’s just legato at the end before that little minor arpeggio you double tap. But your sense of his hybrid picking was very accurate good on that, but also one of the lines at the beginning you’re hitting an octave when it actually hits a really weird note instead idk how to explain it but I can show you

Hello. My name’s Graydon. Im 11 years old and I learned how to play guitar on Fender Play.
Yeah obscura is fuxkin sick. I loved playing with them. They're amazing live too. I learned and am currently learning a bunch of necrophagist. I learned a couple obscura songs before. They are so daunting lol. It's weird being able to play the shit you listen to for years. The really crazy stuff everyone in desthmetal kind of looks up to, necrophagist, deeds of flesh, obscura, odious mortem, severed savior. Awesome bands like that.
I always played my bands stuff and just randomly started learned other peoples music and other styles. Never done that before. It's made me a far better guitarist. Using hybrid picking and applying it to old country chicken pickin stuff. Learned a bunch of cool rake and weird note choices learning blues. I guess I did it all backwards lol.
I love this series so much. Any chance you'd look into learning some Thrailkill? I don't think there are public tabs of his stuff out there but you can buy the tabs from Wes for like $30. Some really challenging fusion/prog type stuff.

Is Rafael a fan of Dream Theater? This to me sounds - or is constructed a bit - like the famous mid-section solo of Take the Time, just taken to a whole other level. But more probably this is jazz fingerings applied to metal (which also applies to DT, of course)

Yes. I always challenge myself to not look, but specifically in this video my guitar didn't have fret markets so I figured it'd trip me out more if i DID look. So I avoided it ;)

Saw you play in Denmark last fall when you were here and it was an amazing concert! My girlfriend hadn't heard you before (she came with me for Revocation) but she absolutely loved it! Hope our son did too since she was pregnant when we went to the show haha. So now we're kinda wondering... Are there any plans to hit Europe again in 2019 or will we have to wait until after your next album drops?

learning to play guitar here, and one thing I find is that for half the chords I am trying to learn to play, my hands seem to be too small, and for the other half of the chords I am learning, my hands are too big... aarrgghh it seems like the ultimate would be if you had teeny little hands and really long super skinny fingers, like ET or something
