Honestly, as a caps fan we've been waiting 44 years and ovi waited for so long so no I'm not sad, and the golden knights just making it to the stanley cup was rocky 1, they showed up to the fight that no one thought they could win. They'll get their rocky 2 in due time.

It's due to a national park we have just outside of town called Red Rock Canyon which is made up of, you guessed it, red rocks. It's actually a well known hiking/outdoors-y type place.
The players were not "castoffs". They were the best available of the veteran players who were 2nd-3rd line forwards or 2nd pairing defensemen. You can create a pretty balanced team with a roster made up of those guys.
And yet everyone and their mother gave them no chance to win more than like 30 or so games and everyone, including most hockey publications and what not, basically thought we screwed the pooch in the draft and that we had no chance to be good because we didnt take the best players available since most picks were 2nd or 3rd best. Ah revisionist history, gotta love ir

At the time they were castoffs and at the time people thought we made a huge mistake picking the players we did and now that it turned out they were great picks and are great players NOW everyone’s like “yea I mean duh it’s obvious you can make a good team out of players like that “ 🙄. Such a joke
