I saw Hale - Bop in Australia, where I live in 1997 I sat in our sprawling yard as it was a sheep station and watched it float in the horizon. Its tail was utterly magnificent. We had set up chairs and cold beverages to hydrate our open mouths. I also took a few flying lessons and one I remember being over Melbourne from Essendon airport. I didn't land it as I was a beginner but the take off was all entrusted into my shaky but exhilarated hands. I've tandem jumped out of one too. Hungover on my last day holidaying in Dunk Island. I landed on the soft beach in an exceedingly sober frame of mind. I love flying or anything to do with flying and Im not surprised given my totem (Im an Indigenous Australian) is the Wedge Tail Eagle. Just a bit of my trivia the first Indigenous Female to get her commercial pilots licence was Virginia Wykes in 1982. Love your videos and your wit, intelligence and compassion. Keep them coming as I look forward to them each week. : )

    Love the tropical shirt!
Also, I saw Hale-Bopp with the naked eye when I lived in Boston during the 1990s.
Lastly, my several times great grandmother graduated from Hollins College in Virginia in the early 1850s, winning the prize for French. I still have the French language bible with which she was presented.

Loved the ending, it was 😂😂. Still not an easy occupation to get into here in the UK for females. I do believe that the UK have the title of having the youngest female commercial captain in the world. I only know this because for years, my 14 year old granddaughter has said that she wants to be a pilot, and she told me about Captain Kate.

Until this episode I never realized she come from very near my hometown. I'm from Corsicana, Texas, a in hour south of Dallas. waxahachie is about half way in between. I'm proud to know that someone who represents so much history is from there. Thank you for sharing this. Greetings to you and your loved ones, and thanks making the lock down pass more easily. Not to be pedantic but it's pronounced (wac sa hatch ie), an Indian word. I'm to old to be PC and use another national description. I also really like your Apollo 11 story. Although so very unjust just how many extraordinary people, and women in particular have been virtually written out of the history books, I find it exhilarating each week as you send me a Googling like a cybernetic bloodhound in search of yet more to each titbit you dangle before me. As a lover of flying too, this week had me agog. However, as an eco warrior (albeit way too late in the game), it also helped give me a little reminder of what I missed the most - yep, the gourmet nuts and a wee drinkypoo!! ... Thanks for the wonderful guffaw that elicited 😆 Hmm, wonder if I have a stale bag in the back of my kitchen cupboard... See you next week. Only one suggestion comes to mind - can you at least try not to wear such dull clobber? 🤪✌🏻 Stay safe, I need the sanity!!

The Wright brothers had a sister who took care of them and nursed them back to health. She was a teacher. When late in life she wanted to get married her brother got upset because she wouldn't be taking care of him after that. They also had a brother, Lorin who gave the brothers a niece and nephew . David McCullen wrote a biography of the Wright Brothers but my favorite is James Tobin's To Conquer the Air. I bet you would like both books. You would learn what an amazing woman Kate Wright was. I love your show. I am from Michigan.

I've been loving the relaxed and informative Vox Tox videos every time they are uploaded. For once, I have something to add myself. The Wright Brothers understood patents very well, but they were not the pioneers responsible for mastering the technical aspects of flying. That title belongs to Glenn Curtiss. He made engines for airplanes as early as 1904, but the Wright Brothers pushed him out of history almost entirely by claiming that he violated their patent that they made in 1906...

I'm really surprised that you didn't mention the Speed Queen, Jacqueline Cochran. She won the Bendix. She was the first woman to break the sound barrier. She headed the Women Air Force Service Pilots. By her death, no other pilot - male or female- held more records for speed, distance or altitude in aviation history. She was a life-long friend of Chuck Yeager who was a great supporter of hers. She was also awarded several honors for her military service. Her story is even more amazing when you consider that she came from a poor family in the panhandle of Florida.

During the lock down I have been looking into the lives of great Canadian women. So I was a bit disappointed when you did not mention Kathleen "Kit" Coleman. Died May 16 1915. Born in Ireland came to Canada and to make extra money writing for a Toronto news paper. Soon she had her own "Woman's Column" but feeling that woman wanted more than just knitting and child rearing she began to add politics and science. She became the first accredited female war correspondent in the world. She covered the Diamond Jubilee, and the Worlds Fair. And when she asked the paper for a 5 dollar a week raise to be equal with male reporters and they said no. She quit. Hopefully it will be over, but if not. Viola Desmond end of July 1965. she's on or ten dollar bill. Dr. Lucille Teasdale, August 1 1996. She just might be the bravest person that you've never heard of. Stay safe.

@@sandit1570 If you work from a script, you can upload it, and TH-cam will automatically sync it into captions. In the Video Editing page, go down to Subtitles, then click on ADD. It'll open another page where you'll have the option of uploading a file. Upload the script and TH-cam will do the rest.
I realise everyone is working for free - but consider all the things that people have access to while in quarantine, and now consider how much of that is accessible. Not a lot. 1 in 3 will benefit from captions, besides the 1 in 6 deaf and hard of hearing, those with English as a second language, many with auditory processing and other similar conditions and anyone who needs to keep the sound down to avoid disturbing others. These videos are fabulous, but I can't share them with my friends, family and colleagues because they aren't accessible.

Sandi. You have the name of the comet wrong. It is Halley's Comet, not Bill Haley's comet and the 'a' in it is pronounced like the 'a' in 'cat'. Bill Haley named his backing group 'The Comets' as a rather bad pun on the similarity between his name and that if the famous astronomer. Sadly many adopted the pun after Haley's hit and deprived the original discoverer of the naming rights he had rightfully earned. I had not expected you to do likewise, and I find myself hoping, but without much certainty, that it is the only basic factual error you have made in these enjoyable posts.

I’m afraid I grew up in New York and that’s how we used to say it. Not sure that counts as a factual error but thanks.

In all likelihood Sandy T will never read this, and I will get nothing but stupid mockery, but I will say this all the same: I didn't like ST making fun of Louis 16th. Of course the man was a fool, and probably psychologically damaged as well - absolutely the worst person to be in charge in a crisis - but so what? First it wasn't his fault, and it nobody would think it appropriate to laugh at a living person with his flaws; and second he paid for his mistakes with his life, and so did his wife, and so did his little son. Do not mock the afflicted.
