Nothing much happens. Sandi is sitting in a chair and talking. But I go through all kinds of emotions, anger, surprise, sadness, and after the last two sentences I am in tears... Amazing storytelling talent. Thank you!
Thank you Sandi and Debbie for letting us into your home for a fireside (I know it's not lit) for a lovely natter (I have a vivid imagination). Greetings from Lancaster.
“There are so many people being hero’s at the moment: I do hope that someone is writing it all down”. I am listening in October, 2024. This near brought me to tears.
What a good idea for a book would be '365 women that deserve a day' . . . and a statue . . . .and one day it could happen that the book could be used to commission the statues, and the proportion of male to female statues could be made more equal . . . .
Okay, I knew I loved you but can I just say these videos are wonderful, and I thank you from the bottom of my everything for making these. I'm not entirely sure that the content of my various bottoms are going to be of much use to you, but I dare say my bottom is quite scrumptious. (Clearly I'm descending into madness.) Much love from Hong Kong! x
Thanks do for posting this. I love these women’s stories, especially about Sybil Luddington. I grew up on Long Island sound at the same time as you did and I’ve been a Lesbian activist for more than 40 years. Must be something in the water.
We have a similar issue here in the District of Columbia, very few public statues of real women. We have Freedom on top of the Capitol and other statues like that of the nurses in the Vietnam War. We have long had Joan of Arc, Queen Isabella, and Mary McLeod Bethune (an American educator). And we finally added Eleanor Roosevelt because FDR was being memorialized. If I may quibble over a slight point, I'm one of those who prefers the word "nation" when talking about the indigenous peoples of what has become the USA. Why? Because the American government negotiated treaties with them as sovereign states. The Seminole Nation has felt so strongly about the issue that they independently declared war during the two world wars. "To me and perhaps not to them, "tribe" suggests an inferior status.
Sandi, thank you so much for doing these. I discovered them this weekend and have spent hours curled up, knitting, and listening to you tell wonderful stories. It's so soothing and exactly what I need right now. You're my favourite!
Am I the first here? I’ve never been first before! Anyway, these videos are such a treat. As soon as they begin, I can feel my shoulders drop and my breath release.
having grown up in the Land of Enchantment, we were given rudimentary ''Eastern'' history Paul Revere, Valley Forge, Benedict Arnold, blah blah blah, our main focus was the Spanish Colonialism and the decimation of the SouthWest Native Peoples, consequentially I became more interested in the indigenous cultures over the colonialists.
First of all, I love your shows. That being said, please notice that you used the same image of a monument for two different women. But a marvelous episode, all the same :-)
Thanks again for the story. I am getting quite used to seeing and listening to you every day. It gives me structure and something to look forward to. Today I will also have a look again at my stamp collection. I have been collecting since I am 6 years old and now 20 years later the fascination with little pieces of perforated paper has not yet ended. My favorite stamps are some special stamps from Austria in the shape of lederhosen (leather trousers), a glass stamp and one made out of needle point.
Lenape is pronounced more like "Len-ahh-pay" but other than that, incredible content, as usual. Loving these, Sandi! Only just discovered the series a couple days ago and have been making my way through them since
Sandy you are just wonderful! But Wait! Is the statue of Pocahontas strangely alike the statue of Sybil Ludington? No matter, we love them anyway. Keep going! Xx
Loved every day of your chat with me, thank you , makes me learn makes me saddened at times but above all makes me laugh. I remember seeing the statue at Gravesend while doing my Thames path walk a couple of years ago now , if you get soooooo bored and I mean soooooo bored look it up on talesbymjlondon X a is again to you and your delightful wife keep safe keep healthy keep smiling X Mick London and Anne Harrower
When I grew up in Delaware, it was pronounced LEN ah pee sometimes. White people couldn't be bothered to LEARN it correctly. The Lenape people were pushed way west and the Kansas town of Tonganoxee is named after one of their chiefs.
oh missing the next one - it's hard living ahead of UK time - nearly the end of april 7 and no april 6 yet! Hope all is well and the delay is due to distraction and not worry.
Sandi, Its so nice to hear your lovely voice everyday and know that our national Trevor is safe and sound. I also listen to Between the Stops as background music to reduce stress... now for my comment: hailing from northern NJ, the pronunciation of Lenape is /ləˈnɑːpi/ or /ˈlɛnəpi. Be well and thanks for broadcasting kindness throughout the world.
What about Tem;erance Wick, who galloped her horse up the stairs to hide him from British troops seizing horses for their soldiers. Good old Tempe! We know her in New Jersey, anyway, because this happened around Jockey Hollow.
If we are to consider ourselves civilized we should finally acknowledge our better halves. Lystistrata is worth considering as a beacon for the power of women.
It is extremely doubtful that Paul Revere (or anyone else) would have raised the alarm by shouting, "the British are coming!" Revere and the other colonials were, and considered themselves to be, British! It is much more likely, in rousing the militia, that Revere, William Dawes, Sybil Ludington, etc. would have cried out, "the regulars are coming!"
Oops. Same statue shown for both women. And Sybil's real one shows her riding side-saddle. I'm not a horsewoman but would she really have ridden all that way at that speed sidesaddle? Interesting. Was she portrayed that way to make her look more ladylike? Heaven forbid she ride safer and more comfortably astride!
Hiya Sandi - our work on Compassion Circles has finally found favour in the NHS in the context of offering some sanctuary and connection to those 'in the frontline' of health and social care. We have now developed 20 minute care space and 10 minute pause space which we hope will offer places of safety and release for many people here and around the world. We are now being offered donations to support the work - having tuned in to all of your beautiful kind, wise and caring reflections we are thinking that we would like to invite those who wish to donate to send their contributions either to the Womens Equality Party or The Woodland Trust. We would love to invite you to participate in an online 20 minute care space - would you welcome that? Andy

Does anyone else play the video a 2nd time and pause it in various places to try and read the titles on Sandi's bookshelves?
YES!
Thank you Sandi and Debbie for letting us into your home for a fireside (I know it's not lit) for a lovely natter (I have a vivid imagination). Greetings from Lancaster.

Thank you, fellow PA native!
Thank you Sandi for inviting us into your home. A highlight of my day!
Mine too, I always strive to be kind.

Truth can be a sword and truth can be the stitches. 🥰 thank you Sandi
So much is written about HIStory, thank you for illuminating some of the facts of HERstory.
"We're going to need an awful lot of stamps"... Absolutely.

Posting this? An unintended pun on the episode about stamps? Nice one ;D

Derek Martz I just discovered on April 28! I watched several episodes, then went back to the beginning and am watching in order.
Paul Revere was captured pretty quickly. There were several riders, but Paul Revere's name worked better in the poem, so....that's our history.
Soo many stamps will be needed indeed. Well said Sandi.
Thank you for inspiring us with wikipedia trails ...and encouragement to be kind
Same image used for both statues: 1:38 & 5:48
So?
You are helping cope with my mental health being stuck at home.

Yay! Sybil Ludington! Sadly, my hometown of Ludington was named after a lumber baron. No idea if there is a familial connection.
Pochahontis and Sybil, according to your visuals of their statues, seem to be one and the same. Cue the Klaxon.
Wonderful, thank you Sandi
You’ve cheered me up by listening to this evening. Wonderful nuggets of information. Thank you

Sandi, enjoying these as a daily huggeh (sp?). A cybervisit. All that's missing is the alcohol.
I’d love it if you could talk about Mary seacole who is truly a heroine
brilliant.
Simply beautiful. 🧡
Loving these .....facts and fun all in one making me chuckle. Nice to see you own more than one shirt Sandi! 😆
Thanks. I do hope you don't end up repeating any days! Stay safe.
Sandi you're so inspiring
Tusind tak, Sandi. Dine videoer er dagens højdepunkt.

Anne Cameron wrote Little book called Daughters of Copper Woman. Short stories. Favourite is Clowns. 👵🏻
Maybe the stamp makers misspelled 'piece'.
As in, 'of totty'.

A stamp for every NHS worker
Isn't that the statue of Pocahontas in Gravesend?
At the start that is...
I think one of Britain’s finest brains should be on a stamp YOU

Sandi is allowed a mistake or two. We noticed as well.
