    Hi dee dee, new subscriber here...You are exactly right about the "jig bore man" at most companies back in the day lol! I worked in the tool room of Teledyne Republic Valve in the 1980's-90's as a machinist-welder. The Jig bore man had his own little shop with his Moore, a Bridgeport, and a SB 13 lathe, Do-all vertical saw...none of us "mere mortal machinists" were allowed to to touch his stuff, except the Do-all. in his world but he was allowed free reign in the whole tooling dept.., and was the TOP PAYED MAN. Thank God CNC machines ended this shop tyranny LOL! You have a great channel and God Bless! 👍👍✔✔

      They had a slow way of getting things done. The best way to apply the machine in these times is to carve out the part on standard machines that can move material, then do the important hole location and accuracy as needed on the jig borer, or get it done already. The same with the Monarch ee.

    Thanks for the videos. Yesterday I decided I needed to learn about jig boring so I did a search. You'd uploaded the videos the day before. It felt like the videos were made just for me!

      There are many aspects to jig boring machine other than making the original jigs that slide down the tables of multiheaded drill presses. I have adapted the machine for repair of castings and other work that requires close alignment and other tolerances. I found the machine pretty friendly

    dee dee this is an absolutely awesome introduction to the machine. Just things like the explanation between the table of a mill and the table of the Moore Jig Bore helps to understand the lost accuracies in a vertical mill. If it means anything I commend you for taking the time to explain in detail this machine. My love is restoration of the old machine tools and understanding them is critical in resurrection.

    This is a great piece of equipment you have. It certainly have its own niche market.
    In your next video, could you go threw the machine and tell us about its capacity, travel, weight, speeds, what collet holder it takes (ie more details on the spindle). What it is best suited for and where it excels!
    Thank you for sharing!

    Hi, I litrally just got my first jig borer, never used one before and I've never seen one in the flesh. But I had the opportunity to own this one and I took it. It's a elgar jig borer... I have no information on it and it's around 2000kg. Plenty of people saying it's just a big paper weight ect. First video I've seen of youres and I have subscribed the demonstration with the vice on the mill was an eye opener...

      I will try to research your machine, sounds like a solid one. I use this machine mostly for repairing motorcycle crank cases and any other power transmission cases where bearing pocket damage occurs, using the machine to sleeve, re machine after weld repair, surface mating edges, locate and machine dowl pin locations, match mis matched cases and a lot more. It does those things better than a standard vertical mill. The spindle is designed for plunging straight in and using a single point cutter boring head but not so much for any heavy side milling. I am currently using a horizontal mill along with the jig borer, makes a nice combo, thanks for tuning in!

      @@deedeeindustrialsuperprecision cheers dude. There is a video of me putting my borer back together on my channel, it was way to top heavy to move down my stairs plus it had to be split to get it out of it's old home. I have a adcock and shipley 1es horizontal mill that I use all the time with a Bridgeport head but I really dont like to drill on it, speed ranges are very poor on the low end 225 is the slowest, but I have picked up a Victoria u2 horizontal mill too but no quill. I've just been watching you're cutter grinder videos as I also got a full size one of them from the same place. You have a really nice shop and I find you're voice most relaxing. Lol

    Hello dee dee. I am an apprentice tool/mold maker and have just been introduced to a Hauser Gig Grinder. Unfortunately the journeyman I apprenticed under retired before I could acquire what I would consider adequate skill acquisition. Like you, the journeyman stressed consideration of nuances like work holding, part distortion and tool deflection. I consider myself just knowledgeable to size a bore but also ignorant enough to be dangerous in the sense of risking biting off more work than I can chew. Would you consider allowing me to pick your brain sometime?
    Thanks for the videos.

    The Jig borer I ran a lot of years ago used 1" ground rollers with a micrometer head that sat on the rollers. That wat you could move the table whole !" increments then dial in the thousandths with the micrometer dial. This was in the days before the age digital readouts. A movement of 0.0001" was easily attained.

    • @deedeeindustrialsuperprecision
      @deedeeindustrialsuperprecision  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes! I was also mentioned by a viewer that a part can be moved without using the table adjustment, just use ground edges and slide then clamp the part dialing in the same way, great point.

    So serious question, I build my own motorcycle drag racing engines and have recently gotten into Harley’s, I was wondering if a Moore jig borer would be a good machine to bore Harley cylinders??? I have a Bridgeport but the quill travel isn’t enough for the height of a Harley cylinder without using the knee to get the last inch or so needed. How much travel is the quill on the Moore jig borers and is there any reason I couldn’t bore cylinders with one? What’s taper does it use in the spindle/tooling? I think I saw a photo and it appeared more substantial than the r8 of the Bridgeport, another reason I don’t think my Bridgeport would be very good. I’m familiar with kwik way, Rottler, and the other makes of dedicated boring bars (engine cylinder boring machines) but if I could do it with a Moore jig bore I basically get use of it for other things where the dedicated kwik way type is single purpose machine. Also the jig borer I’ve seen for sale are pretty reasonable price too! I do also know it can be done on a lathe but my Leblond is pretty clapped out and not accuarate enough without some refurbishing to do the job very well!
    Thanks for your time hope to hear back from you

    • @deedeeindustrialsuperprecision
      @deedeeindustrialsuperprecision  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, the Moore has the same 5" of quill travel, the Excello XLO 602 has 6"of quill travel and would be nice. I used a lathe for boring out sportster 883 to 12000cc and twiincam 88 to 95". In practice the cylinders are sized to the next .010 oversize by honing as per standard HD practice using the Sunnen 110 type rigid hone using coarse stones dry for roughing then fine stones with oil.. The Moore jigbore was ideal for repairing crankcases and boring the cases for big cylinders such as S&S big bore kits.
