I understands Hamilton's dismay about feeling alone is speaking about against these malevolent bad actors in the scene related to the FDA decision. I was continually pushing back against these folks on Twitter and felt almost completely alone in doing so, and I'm not even American. It was nice to get a message from Hamilton supporting me in this endeavour. Nice conversation going into the nuances here, some of which I didn't know. Hamilton appears to gaining more and more clarity over time which is good to see.

This is hugely important information, delivered thoughtfully and with balanced perspectives. Well done, Adam. I really appreciate the care and nuance you bring to these topics. I was wondering if you’d consider adding a brief section at the end of your episodes where you share a bit about your life, like the subjective elements you explored in Not Therapy. 2:38 this is the reason it failed FDA approval,..the legitimate reasons for why it failed FDA approval are clearly explained and available if you look.
Actually, no. That's what I thought, but as Hamilton points out, it's simply not accurate. The FDA was intimately involved with the design of these studies.
@@AdamStrauss3:33,..Psilocybin Therapy has been LEGAL here in Oregon for 3 years! So you are 100% wrong on this claim that Psychedelic Therapy is being set back years when in fact it’s been LEGAL in Oregon for the last 3 years.
@@BushyHairedStranger This is such an absurdly disingenuous comment that it barely warrants a reply. Do you genuinely believe that the fact that one state has legalized access in limited situations as proof that the federal (ie, nationwide) FDA denial of this therapy is somehow not a setback? It sounds like he's saying the drug war is a class war and infighting only benefits the .01% oligarchs and pharmaceutical companies, but anyway O...M....G did you see what Hamilton was wearing? I heard he's a dog person and like... Indifferent to cats :(
I think the drug war largely IS a class war, though this isn't really the focus of what Hamilton's discussing here. And the only animals Hamilton loves are toads 🐸
Hey Adam, great propaganda piece! I mean, the way that Hamilton denied the MAPS therapist (Richard Yensen) initiated the "sexual relationship" with his patient during the trial even though Yensen can clearly be seen (on-camera) repeatedly pushing his groin into his patient's backside (and kissing his patient) while the patient was under the influence of MDMA? Brilliant! Not only that, but Hamilton's fantastic point about the patient "moving" to a remote island as a willful choice (when in reality she was trafficked during the trial by her study therapists) was such an extraordinary argument that I suddenly dropped every criticism I've ever leveled against MAPS. Stunning work, all around! And the way that y'all conveniently ignored how Yensen can be seen wrapping his hands around his patient's throat while in the treatment room? Ingenious! I mean, there's nothing quite as satisfying as listening to two shills sweep documented violence under the rug in an attempt to launder the soiled reputation of a pharmaceutical research organization. Don't get me wrong; I think y'all did an excellent job of dismantling facts only to inject a spin into the situation. Bravo! My favorite part was where it was suggested that MAPS' treatment approach decreased suicidality among trial subjects even though zero (0) MAPS-sponsored trial publications have ever provided data suggesting that this was observed during the studies! I have no doubt that in due time, scholars across the globe will be left stunned by the detail-oriented criticisms leveled in this podcast. 10/10, would recommend. By the way, feel free to read my preprint ("Omission of Serious Adverse Events Within Retracted MAPS-Sponsored Trial Publications Examining MDMA-Assisted Psychotherapy") when you have the chance 😉
@AdamStrauss just posting this comment here as it looks like you missed it in our thread from a few days back. I picked the video example because thanks to journalistic coverage it's super easy to demonstrate Hamilton's misinformation in that example. Have you seen the ABC article "Meaghan thought psychedelic therapy could help her PTSD. Instead it was the start of a nightmare"? (I tried to link but YT keeps deleting comments with the link) "To this day, the woman at the centre, participant Meaghan Buisson, still hasn't watched the videos. When the police handed them over to her, she says the investigating officer advised her to never watch them, for her own wellbeing." A major news outlet reported the videos were provided by the police. That's entirely at odds with Hamilton's unvetted claims about Rick being such an "awesome dude" he just handed over the videos against his lawyers' advice and recommendation of an NDA (a story already at odds with basic trial procedure on multiple levels). Like I said, I picked this example because it's such a simple one, but this episode is full of errors/misstatements (again, not claiming lies as I don't know either of your intentions, but you both got a fair few things wrong). Really bummed you let Hamilton spew so much misinfo. Hope future episodes will be better vetted. And just for clarity, Hamilton's initial claim is incorrect (and different from what you said in your comment, although maybe you were referencing a different section which you could quote specifically). What he says is "When Megan Buisson requested the footage lawyers advised Rick not to give her the footage because they said that they weren't legally required to do it or that she should have to sign an NDA." That's blanketly wrong as far as the trials go for multiple reasons, and specifically wrong in this particular instance as shown by actual reporting (videos provided by the police). Like I said earlier, accuracy from all sides is important.
It's a real shame Hamilton wasn't fact checked on his various inaccurate claims, like the one about trial participants not having access to their videos. Anyone with basic knowledge of the trials (clearly that's not Hamilton) knows how wrong that claim is and why. That's one of the most basic misstatements (I won't claim he's lying as I don't know his intention, but he's wrong regardless) he makes, but this video is full of inaccuracies. Hamilton is right, people shouldn't lie or make misleading claims about the trials. That goes not just for the people he disagrees with, but also him!
Absolutely. 3:27,…Psilocybin has been legal in Oregon for three years! How is this denial a setback for years in Psychedelic therapy when we have 100% Legal Psychedelic Therapies currently active in the USA!?
@Mescalator: This is such a bizarre comment that I have to wonder who you are and what your motivation here is. First, Hamilton doesn't say trial participants don't have access to their videos; he says they have to request them (obviously MAPS isn't emailing 40 plus hours of video footage to every participant unless they ask). But even if Hamilton did say this (which again, he didn't), how could you possibly impugn nefarious motives - this statement wouldn't reflect negatively on MAPS, or Psymposia, or any other entity. So the fact that you single this out seems like desperate straw grasping. Will you disclose your identity and interests here?
@@BushyHairedStranger Because you're saying something (that the FDA denial of mdma therapy impacting all 50 states isn't a set back since psilocybin is available therapeutically in one state) that I don't think you actually believe. So I want to know what your motivation is for saying this.
@@AdamStrauss Regardless of who “we” are what is more important is working together cooperatively for the benefit of EVERYONE. So MAPs lost this battle…meh…you think they are going to quit now?!
