A few months ago I came back home late and I didn't feel like sleeping at once so I started watching it with English subtitles. I decided to watch a little part just to get into it and finish it the next day (yeah, I know that's not good practice for watching movies) but I couldn't stop despite the fact it's more than 3 hours long. This movie is magnificent! So simple, yet so powerful. Acting, directing, cinematography - everything is on high level.

This movie could have gone on for another 3 hours and I wouldn't even notice. I absolutely love Ceylan's films and this might be my favorite yet.

    I just saw it.
And I agreed with your review that in the last hour , movie does pick up and concludes beautifully.
Keep doing more reviews like this, the first thing i searched on TH-cam was anyone talking about it, such films need more talking heads and discussion boards to decipher the meaning and director's intention

Thank you. We do need more people to talk about films like this and promote them. I hope to do more in the future.

Its a perfect film. There is not any other films which do better than what it does. Thats a very shallow style of comparison that i wouldn’t expect from you. Its a very own kind of movie and with a perfect cinematography , not slow at all because of the many many perfect dialogs but gives his message in a very deep boiling way and in the end the audience is totally knockout . It starts works does what it is supposed to do never fails a moment and finishes like a king. Mechanics of this movie is very powerful. And its the most ever talkative / funny movies of the director.

@@MrRenegadePhoenix even though Winter Sleep won the plame dor, Once Upon a Time in Anatolia is still his best work for most of people. Also his break out film Distant has a lot of fans too. I highly recommend all three movies for you :)

It was 3 hours long. Felt like 10. Granted it had some visually beautiful scenes and interesting conversations but I kept waiting for something to happen and it never did. It was the only film I've ever left early. Turns out I left only 10 minutes early but I had contemplated leaving for perhaps an hour by that point and had no idea when the torture would end and i really needed to use the bathroom!

It's a shame you didn't like this, but it's certainly not for everyone. I will say however that I think the final 10 minutes elevated this film entirely for me.

I loved this movie alot, the conversations etc. I suggested this movie to a friend, he said the same thing as above comment. Idk what's the reason why reaction is so opposite, but maybe you are more used to fast paced movies.. in this movie, he Ceylan just gives you time to think, to participate.. it's really a very thought provoking movie
