The real question is what would a world be like if there were a god. Maybe that’s what he was asking.

I can figure out what Bergman is talking about but I can care less. These films drag on forever and ever, and are so gloomy and repressive. Even with seventh seal which I so far enjoyed the most dragged out more than I like. Some of the acting is overdone especially with Harriet Andersson’s screaming and crying in summer with Monica and Through a glass darkly. I like his use of sound but Cinematography wise, it’s really mediocre. Not that special and often the topics are so weird and repugnant. As far as world cinema goes, give me Tarkovsky/Kalazotov with their brilliant cinematography and touching stories any day. Or Vittorio De Sica.
Nice review though. I kept trying to follow through on watching his films but my disinterest and ADHD couldn’t handle it.
