The W6TRW Swap Meet has been held monthly for almost 40 years. The W6TRW Swap Meet is well known throughout the western US and even the world! It is always held the last Saturday of every month, rain or shine, holiday or not, from 7 AM until 11:30 AM, in the parking lot near the southeast corner of Aviation Blvd. and Marine Ave. where the cities of Redondo Beach, Manhattan Beach, and Hawthorne meet in California. Talk-in on 145.320 -600 PL 114.8.

Until this CCP Virus nonsense, and the short time they were thinking of shutting down the parking lot due to Homeland Security BS, I think they only missed a couple weekends - one was due to a company shin-dig for employees.
I'd taken all three of my Ham exams there too.

I have been there a few times before 2020. Always a nice swap meet. A few years ago, one of the main organizers told me a group from Japan on a bus from LAX was dropped off at the swap meet and flew back to Japan after they finished at the swap meet.

Pretty awesome seeing all the vintage equipment! Good catch on that item you got! I had one of the old Realistic weather radios a long time ago...it's long gone now...or maybe you bought it...LOL

I converted mine to put a time stamp on the second track of a tape deck for a scanner recorder. Got some great OJ freeway chase and riot recordings on it.

The Realistic weather radio was a fixture in a lot of Illinois farm houses. Most of them have been replaced with Midlands, but that fake wood panel and ivory button can't be beat for vintage 70s-80s looks.

I had one of those Realistic Weather Radios as a kid. I took it apart to see how it worked. Thanks for the tasty content. Keep up the good work.

Didn't know if you were going to this or not. I was keeping my eye out for you, but never saw you there.
That museum on wheels really was a treat. The operator said he had some similar vintage gear for sale back at his warehouse.
I think I saw your frequency meter there before you picked it up.
The Swap meet from 20 years ago, when it was at the diagonal corner of the intersection, was much bigger. TRW sold that property and it got converted to a baseball complex.
I splurged and got myself an authentic Hammarlund Speaker for my HQ-129-X receiver.

Back in the day there was a mod for those Realistic weather cubes to move them to 2 meters to monitor your local repeater if you were away from the shack. Back before the era of cheap handhelds! I was running an old Kenwood TR-7850 then and had a modded Weathercube in my office at work.

Enjoyed seeing all the old radios. Love to see a video on how to size a 12v power supply for mobile to base use and which types create less line noise.

I wanted the weather radio cube at the Huntsville Hamfest! Now you bought one! Great nostalgia find! Love the video.

Thanks and glad you enjoyed. Quite a different ambience than the Huntsville event a few weeks ago, where apparently most people were not aware of something called Delta variant! Hope things settle down enough for Dayton/Xenia to return in the spring!

BC-221 -- I have two (Q version) and they both have a super-stable oscillator. And in a pinch, they can be used as direct conversion receivers; albeit, performance is vastly improved with the addition of a tuned preamp. Ken WA8FCI

Glad to see lot of actual Ham vendors at TRW. The last TRW I attended with the idea of selling Ham gear I felt like an orphan with very few vendors with amateur radio gear. It had turned into a regular swap meet.
I am glad to see a return to the TRW of old with Hams selling Ham gear.

I am not close enough to the W6TRW repeater to hear it except with a yagi antenna. One day a blackout knocked out most of Southern California. I was listening to AM news on my Kenwood TH-F6A when I decided to check out 2 meters. I could hear the TRW repeater clear as day on a rubber duck antenna!

wwii equipment usually needs to have the paper wrapped components replaced before you fire it up and pop smoke.

Why would you have a radio meeting in person if the whole point of radios is to communicate at long distance?

  • @MikieLAX
    @MikieLAX 3 ปีที่แล้ว

So much left unspoken or not shown:
When and where is the TRW swap meet?
You forgot to plug in your BEV?!? Not a great commercial to inspire ICE drivers to switch! How many miles roundtrip is TRW from your home and what is your EV capacity?
Nice museum, BUT you went by everything SO fast, I have to rewatch frame by frame
But plenty of time to see a DVD duplicator, your Signal Core Meter and Realistic WeatherRadio! :)

@@HamRadioCrashCourse You spent more time saying: "old M-SAT setup" than you showed it on the screen! Time to hire a new editor...
But I got a good look at the "dog in a stroller!"
Even freeze frame, it is hard to tell which Drakes are in the museum!

Cripes man. Your car is _filthy!_
Nonetheless, I hope these swap meets start to pop up in other states. I will never set foot in California for any reason whatsoever. Pretty sure some local agencies would be waiting for me at the border.
In fact, I had a buddy of mine meet me on the Arizona side of Laughlin just so I could pickup some items. I also traveled there with my attorney just to be safe. Such a shame that Cali hates freedom and liberty. I truly miss Catalina Island.
I am a lifelong Arizonan after all. Need I say more?
    Stay classy my friends.
    EDITED for grammar.

Some QSL cards will be delayed. 🤣

Catalina Island does not miss you! Remember that when California gets more water from the Colorado River than does AZ or NV (historic water rights contracts)!
