When I was in third grade, Mrs. Cooke took my blue Star Wars cards that I was looking at in class and put them in the “June box“. When school was over in June, she went in the box to give everybody their stuff back and my cards had mysteriously disappeared.I still remember her name - the lady who took my cards.
It’s funny to hear about the Pokémon card problems in classes in 2024 when I was a kid I did the same thing back in the 90’s and the teachers hated them and got my name on the board for the first time in my life lol Pokémon is alive and well
Buying Topps and doing everything else there doing growing the hobby is great for overall growth. Are you surprised they still haven’t gone public and your figuring there still a few years away. I felt they would of been public by now from where they were a few years ago.
@ yes. Totally understand that. But when is enough enough? They were on the trajectory/speculation of going public few years ago. Taking on Topps, PWCC all the licenses etc is great for more growth but also cost a ton of money.
Fanatics will divest Topps and retain autograph exclusives with athletes. He wants the source of IP not cardboard. 5:01 6:42 the great curator is a fool and grifter. 8:54 the kid trading is why the hobby thrives. It separates the strong with weak. 14:08 sell the moments and collect the memories
I’m worried about the Fanatics takeover. Unlicensed Topps looks trash. I hope the licensed product is going to look a lot better. Maybe we are at the end of a golden era and didn’t know it.
Talking about franchising etc…. Ive been thinking Lids is going to be there retail stores. They already have the retail footprint. They’ve already started bringing in more then just hats. Why not add more square footage and fill it with sealed products. Taking this a step further.. I see a move coming with GameStop and sports cards. They’ve been dealing with retail products and have been getting a tremendous amount more this past year. Also hobby boxes in store. GameStop is already involved with graded cards. Nat Turner is on the Board. And most importantly ,we all know what’s going on with GameStop as a company. There primed fora partnership type move
Topps now is better imo from the past. They use to offer expensive autographs and their platinum members always got first dibs, well they always sold out before they ever reached the general public. So now that everyone has a chance with this lottery it does make it more fair for everyone and not just for their top tier platinum members.
You oddly compared 5 yr olds to high school kids & how popular cards are with each group. I would argue Pokémon are equally less interesting to teenagers as sports cards. Teenagers are an extremely fickle group.
Guys you have one of the best shows in the hobby. We need longer shows! More! More! More!
Haha thanks! We might be doing some extra Sunday shows soon 👀

Damn!
You got Cooked!
Honorable mention to Mars Blackmon (Spike Lee) "Gotta be the shoes!!" But yeah, Bo Knows with the Gretzky cameo, brilliant.

Heres my gut! On card, Autos, Numbered, and rookies. are going to be the future, otherwise way to many cards out there otherwise!
Mix only fans with breaking is going to be next to raise the bar

They have to get the timing and growth right. You don’t want the IPO to flop

I am one of the ones that were chasing the heat and I'm somewhat out of it now. The slowing down is evident.
Extremely evident and many are in denial
Pokemon cards were treated as contraband when I was in school 20 years ago.
Some things never change …

If this ever happens it was my idea. lol But what if a breaker sold everything at cost and made all their money through ads, sponsorships, etc.
Be like Mike is my favorite
I thought five cards was five chances. I’m sure that is what most people think unless they are told different.
I have my breakers that I trust and enjoy spending time with. Those are the guys I stick by.

Good point thanks!
