The SFX commentary was brilliant! I totally reminded me of a Monty Python style sketch and I was having to hold back my laughter because of watching this at work in a quiet office. Thank you to the editor for the extra-happy memory-inducing gag!
@@jakubmakalowski6428 Agree, a few seconds is fine, but I had to skip forward after it seemed to be going on forever. I never skip in videos outside of things like "Starting soon!" placeholders, but this was just too much.
Adam, after you left, I said "Oh crap, it's self adhesive, I hope that doesnt require lots of messy removal" but it looks like that made it work perfectly. The cat caption commentary had me in stitches. Just as you thought it was done, here comes more. So very Adam. Joey, it was absolutely perfect. I have things I need to do, and I want to watch this again. Thanks so very much for this!
Old Swiss Bank key fobs were round brass tabs with "Deposit Box" followed by box number and "Bank of Switzerland" stamped into them. There are some older E-Bay photos left from a previous sale of one.
Might I just say Adam, that it really does make me happy to see you practicing proper safety even with fake firearms. Whether a testament to how ingrained it's become in you, or an active attempt not to let bad habits creep in just because they aren't real, I applaud you for that.
That bank box has always had my attention. I've never been one for prop collecting, but I'm really envious of yours. I can't really explain why I like it so much either.
Who else paused to rewatch the scene from the film? Love it, so cool seeing a functional version of this prop, love that Adam has been thinking about this in the back of his mind for years - I think that's an interesting thing about creative people. We have all these projects in the back of our minds. I have too many and love seeing Adam just get on and do it, I need to stop making excuses and make time to make the things I want to make!
Edit: finished the video, the finished piece is AWESOME. No criticality, remains in my heart, that black floor guard even looks visually accurate on my screen, like perfect, the hinge and lock are sooo awesome. new fave one day build! (previous comment from days ago): I sat here, and checked, only minutes in and paused, and debated making this comment, but i gotta, even knowing you definitely know all this already, in the movie, frame by frame by frame, you can see the lid isn't hinged, its secured by two heavy duty looking pieces of round bar maybe with brass tips, on the back side that must've been fed into channels or left slack side to side, the lid is removable completely. ...it's been too long now but i think im regaining the vague recollection from a "still untitled" episode, you know this, and crave the hinge. but im already this deep into typing.... i mean im still going to enjoy the video, but i want you to enjoy what you make at the end right?! (have to finish watching video later)
This is a really cool prop to showcase, because it's the kind of prop that a lot of people don't think about. It's not for a hero weapon, or a macguffin, it's for an every-day object that many people might assume is just a real bank box. But it's not, it's a custom piece designed to fit the needs of film aesthetically and practically (it has to look cool and hold all the things we see in the scene where Bourne opens it).
Hangout with you and your builds gives me the same feeling as when I would go to my dad's shop and watch him work and assist when needed, it's very relaxing and nostalgic. Thank you for sharing Adam and crew
As an Argentinian welder who is accustomed to living and thinking in terms of scarcity of materials, these videos are extremely catarctic. Thank you so much Adam for allowing us inside your amazing cave full of wonders and guiding my life towards making from a young age.
Great to see a well-edited Tested video that focuses on the actual building (the the drumming and SFX bits were ok but not what I am talking about here). I have had to skip through most Tested build videos in recent years. Thanks, Joey.
I love how excited you become and how happy you are to create these prop replicas. It's infectious. My favorite build is one I saw you talk about in a video some time back--the efforts you went through to create a replica Maltese Falcon.
Yeah, i am looking into starting a small collection of prop replicas, for example i have a friend of mine helping me track down a count dooku lightsaber as honestly he was my favorite of all the Sith lords and a chakram for my brother as he loved xena growing up
Yeah that cat bit was hilarious, props to you guys. It is not the first time they do some hidden post production/editing joke. Please more of that! The only thing that bums me out is when you start and promise a multi part dinosaur build and suddenly it disappears after the first episode... hahah.
Just saw this and loved your ability to problem solve on the fly,it’s a testament to your experience. That said my ADD is jumping up and down about one detail, the lock. Your solution is great the only problem is that when locked it will not let the box sit flat on the end. That would not be acceptable to the bank as it wouldn’t fit with their image of being detail conscious people. The fix would be to make a thicker registration plate so the lock is flush when the box is locked. That set of the ADD as it would have been easy to bend the lid to bypass the lock. At that point I decided that I was over thinking it and remembered that you have to get in the bank then access the box in its vault then remove the box from its storage space only then would you be able to force it open. Most of the inner client boxes don’t have a lock anyway. I would just make a stiffer lid out of a thicker plate and set the lock flush in the locked position. (Had to get that out sorry)
I met Chris Hadfield through work, and I agree, he is an awesome person. He was filming a spot in the studio next door to where Blues Clues was filming and during lunch I saw him standing on the bottom of a staircase, surrounded by the cast and crew of Blues Clues, answering all their questions; a very kind and genuine person.
Fine custom prop making! But may I ask: did You notice that in the movie the lid is detachable and slid into place with two locating pins, so the lock keeps the (slid) lid in place. I found a twist lock on amazon called TOVOT, that after some small modifications (making it smaller/flatter) could serve that exact purpose. Thanks for the high quality entertainment and for keeping us inspired as makers. Enormous fan
I jumped to this video from listening to Joe Porter playing video game music on unusual percussion instruments and was very confused for a minute. Awesome build Adam, very much enjoyed watching it.
am i the only one who gets MASSIVE doc ock energy every time he moves the camera (which is presumably attached to one of those funky arms the lights are on)
There aren't hinges in the other Bourne security box (but) there is 2 rod's, you can see them in the bank scene if you look closely , but GG's on alternate hinge solution..
This is one of the coolest videos Adam has ever done. Love the lock. If he learned tig aluminum welding, I'm sure he could have some blind rivets or screws for the hinge.
Absolutely a killer project, thanks! Having had some small experience with Swiss banks, though this was some time ago, I can say that key fobs varied in style and quality. One of the more elegant ones used antique replicas (I would assume) of actual original gold strong-box keys, which formed the fob itself. A gold keyring was attached to the handle of the key. It was a great look. Cheers!
Ordinarily I would think this is too nitpicky a comment, but your dedication to perfect realism calls me to action. If this is the bank box from Bourne Identity, why would Bourne already have a photo of him and Marie either in Mykonos or Goa, when he hasn’t even met her yet?
I happen to have a "Bank of Switzerland" deposit box key fob. I don't know if it is real or a tourist trinket, but if you want, I can take some reference photos.
Even though I knew it wasn't a real cat, I appreciate the editor's interlude. 😄My scanner made a little magical chime during that silent moment of the reveal of the finished passport.

The research, the movie clips, it would be like reliving the adventure all over again ! I hope you read my comment but as always, thanks for all your time and effort.
Adam idk if you’ve ever done this, but if you use a good caulk and make a fake aluminum weld bead. When dry paint silver and apply that burned heated metal paint you do with an airbrush. It looks awesome and dresses up Seams really nicely
Another excellent 1-day build! Silly question though.. how can you make the box stand up vertically when locked, when the key's cylinder is poking through and making the surface not-flat?
The editor's cat notes are brilliant. A total Monty Python "A moose once bit my sister." vibe.
