Several World War 2 vehicles departed the ferry as enthusiasts and renactors attended D-Day events in France met by others across the world. This included a convoy with an escort from the Gendarmerie, featuring three Spitfires. A French Army AS532 Cougar flew over at the same time. Later on, two C-130 Hercules happened to fly over the ferry as it departed.
This anniversary of D-Day marks 80 years since allied troops landed on the beaches of Normandy to liberate France and the rest of Europe from the Nazis in World War II. The event commemorates the allied invasion and thanks the veterans who took part, while also remembering the thousands who perished on June 6th, 1944.
