Hey Nicole, creator of Quartz here! Thank you for making this video, this is really awesome and super clearly explained :) Would you be ok if I linked to this from the official documentation?
Hi, can I ask you something? My site runs fine locally, but when I do "npx quartz sync", my github page gives me a 404 error. I followed all the steps in that guide. What could be wrong? Also, Quartz is apparently asking for Github passwords instead of tokens that should be the new standard.
Nicole, you are such a gem (of the year) to this community! This type of high quality tutorial is why you're so deserving of being recognized. Congrats!
Okay SERIOUSLY YOU ARE AMAZING!! Without you this simply would not be possible for a dummy like me. I am running my first campaign and I now have up and running a hand made wikipedia of sorts for my players to leaf through. I am so psyched!!
Literally BLESS YOU. I've been looking everywhere for clear and concise explanation for this process as I'm not to literate with the terminology. Truly a life saver. Also The name of the vault had me worried in the beginning before you showed what it meant 0.0
Hey Nicole; just wanted to drop in and say thank you. Your content is absolutely fantastic, and is seriously appreciated. Thank you for your time, and all that you do. Obsidian is such a huge gift, and having a mentor show so many wonderful possible futures with it is just surreal. Again, thank you for all of this.
Thanks nicole for creating such a helpful video, it really helped me in setting up everything. Just have a suggestion if you could create one more video on the same on how to configure the quartz site like changing and tweaking stuff. (Fonts/headers/icons).
Absolutely! This just illustrates one of the advantages of using a Markdown-based tool: even if your note-taking tool changes, you'll still be able to use Quartz to publish your notes.
Anytype is also the opposite of portable. I looked at it in 2022 and asked if there were any plans to use existing standards/formats for notes. The answer was no. Unfortunately, it's really important to me not to have my notes tied to a single tool, so it's not for me. Saving notes locally in Markdown is essential.
Side topic, Nicole's voice /audio quality in this vid is especially compelling. New mic or something? And her pronunciation of 'quartz' is just sublime. No joke, it's like a 3D word (I know that sounds... crazy!)
I just want to say thank you! Especially for the article, I stoped video in the almost beginning and just follow the instructions. Now I have new toy for my favorite price. (free)
I guess since it uses Git, it won’t work from mobile right? Any alternative to Obsidian Publish that works from mobile, without setting up working copy or something like that?
Hello Nicole thanks for videos about obsidian. I want to use the Obsidian application for my engineering education. Although I tried with a clipper and a chrome md text download plugin, I couldn't do exactly what I wanted. When I uploaded the mathematics codes prepared for mathematics students into the application in md format, I saw that mathematical expressions in many subjects such as fraction lines in rational expressions, rooted numbers, exponential expressions of numbers, limits, derivatives, integrals could not occur smoothly as they appear on the site. If there is a solution that I can note all the expressions on the page in the same way, please help me.
Really appreciated your clear explanations of how all the various components fit together, Nicole! Thanks! I have one question though: I couldn't find any info on how Quartz handles Obsidian dataview queries. If I have dataview queries in my notes, are they shown as the query code or as the query result (in static form)? Do you know by any chance? Thank you!
The video was extremely useful. I was wondering if there was a way to use this method to publish only specific folders in an existing vault in Obsidian. I would much rather have one vault with different folders for specific use cases than have multiple different vaults. Thank you again for the wonderful videos!
For anyone that gets stuck when trying to sync no pull cuz it asks you for a key, instead of doing SSH link of your repo, do HTTPS. You can simple rm origin and add origin again to replace the link
Hi Nicole thank you for sharing, a question, is there a way to make my site access by only a certain amount of people with emails? Or like make it to access with password?
Wonderful video, Nicole. This may be a newbie question, but is there a way make images that are linked in the note as ![img.png] to display properly? (in my case, none of the links, embeds showed up)
hey Nicole, thank you for the awesome tutorial! I wanted to change the logo of the plant and the title Quartz 4.0 from the website. Does anyone know how to get that done or point me in the right direction?
Hey Nicole, thanks for this video. I have a question I followed step by step you procedure but my content is not showing up in the quatrz how I can fix that? The main menu is just looking like the Indexmd with sponser images and graph + backling just like in github main page.
What are you using to type the lines of code in? I am command line illiterate (but pretty confident in my abilites to follow a guide lol) and I have absolutely no clue what you're using here. The only command lines I've ever typed things into is Terminal.
Same. I'm also trying to tweak my site like changing fonts/colors, headers, icons but I think the quartz documentation is little too much over the head for me.
Please help me, when i use the command npx quartz sync -no-pull it ask me to put a key or something like this but i dont know how, it loads me an error please help me.
When i tried to publish the github page it gave me the error: "This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it", and just show the file as text. I also tried to remove the .css files from .gitignore because maybe i thought the program can't see the .css files but it didn't change anything. Happened to somebody else? If so plz let me know how you fixed it
Thanks! 1) I didn't try it on Ubuntu, but probably! You might need to throw a sudo in there if you're not on root. 2) There are a few ways. You could turn `draft: true` in the YAML frontmatter. You could use a filter plugin to set criteria for what's not published. There's also a part in the config where you can set paths to be excluded.
You could just create a new empty one and copy in it all your notes from the finder (just create the empty folder then copy in it all your notes from the other folder you already have) Btw could you help me? When i use the command npx quartz sync -no-pull it ask me to put a key or something like this but i dont know how, it loads me an error please help me.
This tool is cool but the website has a lot of things I cannot customize or remove. Website doesn't work on mobile even when you use the "Desktop site" option.
Well first thanks for the precious work. But it's been so painful to get to that result, I think I'll just drop it now... I reached the end, should just have to load my github page, but it just shows a blank page or a 404 error... Been browsing countless Stack forums, asking GPT, and I could lose another two weeks on this but I sort of overdosed on this.. it's just too painful. Nothing worked out as in the video for me as I had to trigger many unexpected commands which I had to find elsewhere on online forums but I eventually found my way as a newbie who just has basic coding skills. I reached the end of the process and should be able to fire up the page but no of course no there's got to be yet another issue to guess the solution of. I can't waste more time on this. Let it be a reminder for the newbie : never follow a tutorial like this if you don't know much about Github or JS packages...
Ooooooh! I did not know that! Oops. I use a monitor as my main screen and use a window manager to split two windows horizontally, so that makes it slightly narrower than usual. Thanks for calling that out!
WOW. How did you spot that? Sharp eyes. Yes, my friends and I got the "gaming group" option so that we each got a core rulebook. :) We've already played it twice, but may dip back in for something longer soon...
The Arcane Library logo just jumped out at me. We started using Runehammer's shadowdark character sheets that have the logo front and center, so maybe that's why it hit me even through a little bit of background blur :D.

Thank you for your videos Nicole. My vault grow up a lot the last year thanks to you. You are incredible 😊

Thanks nicole for creating such a helpful video, it really helped me in setting up everything. Just have a suggestion if you could create one more video on the same on how to configure the quartz site like changing and tweaking stuff. (Fonts/headers/icons).

Nicole, what a valuable content! thx for that!
Amazing tutorial, Nicole! 😁😁😁😁😁
You rock!
bests!
Realllllyyy awesome 💯 I'm so glad obsidian is so flexible , it's super easy to use quartz obsidian combo to host your own static pages 🌟
Absolutely! This just illustrates one of the advantages of using a Markdown-based tool: even if your note-taking tool changes, you'll still be able to use Quartz to publish your notes.
Perfect timing. Testing Obsidian vs Anytype right now. AnyType is argually more powerful, but obsidian makes more sense to me lol.

No new mic or anything audio related. 😅 Ummm... how do other people pronounce "quartz"? Now I have to make people say that so I can listen.
@@nicolevdh I also confess I am highly caffeinated today...
I say 'quartz' very abruptly and imprecisely like - cortz... (southern UK).
I just want to say thank you! Especially for the article, I stoped video in the almost beginning and just follow the instructions. Now I have new toy for my favorite price. (free)
'npx quartz sync --no-pull' results in 'sh: line 1: quartz: command not found'. From here I do not know what to do next.
Ta for this, as I'll certainly bear this in mind for a couple of my planned sites. 🙂

Rendering Dataview queries when publishing notes
@@nicolevdhOhh, that's very useful information! Thanks a lot for these details! :-)

Can you selectively publish Obsidian notes via Quartz?
For anyone that gets stuck when trying to sync no pull cuz it asks you for a key, instead of doing SSH link of your repo, do HTTPS. You can simple rm origin and add origin again to replace the link

I think there has to be a way given the example sites I've seen. I just can't find it

Do you think it's possible to do this by using Ubuntu inside Windows Subsystem Linux? (so basically just a command line without any GUI)?
What am i doing wrong? whenever i paste the first line into my terminal it just throws an error and tells me that the command doesn't work.
How long did it take for your DNS to propagate? With a custom domain?
I did exactly the same but for some reasons, there is no explorer on the left bar?
same problem
It's the responsive design configuration. Try ctrl - or zoom out
Hello, what about Obsius plugin? It died? Thank you.
Thanks, really good tutorial! Will the book be in Dutch?
Nope! It'll be in English. :) Maybe someday! Glad you liked the video. :)
How does obsidian-html compare to quartz?

Not in the .excalidraw format, but you can export drawings to images and publish those!

Great video! just two questions:
1) Are the commands the same in Ubuntu?
2) How do you add/edit/remove published notes?

You CAN add comments to it (using another service), but I decided not to-- I'd rather receive feedback on Discord or GitHub! YMMV though.
