In the past- in history… The reason why a lot of makeup/cosmetic industries catered towards poc are mainly owned by white majority, is because they are aware of their target markets, and know that their own beauty standards are set and generally the status quo not just in their own countries, but due to the influences they’ve had all around their world through their exploits and colonial pasts. As as this is the beauty standard to aspire to, where POC in the past have used make up to mainly experiment with, to enhance features or to just set a tone or vibe to a certain trend or fashion, white people have exploited this market, making it feel like it’s a necessity and way of life… Moisturing, cleansing, toning and applying beauty treatments is one thing and that’s fine. But the exploitation of making poc feel inadequate because of skin tone or colour or even changing features as they do not sit within the social beauty construct of what is beautiful is, I feel the very reason why it’s mainly white owned- in order to make us feel like we need to fit into this trend…. This is where their bread and butter lies!!! X
