Incredibly musical and very magical and sensitive. I have always loved Mischa Maisky's playing. I first heard him in concert at the end of the 1970s. He always had that magical sensitive golden tone.
I enjoy Maisky's interpretation of many pieces - esp. the Bach suites. I just started playing Vocalize on my cello and found his performance. I am always moved by his passion.

Outstandung good! I rehearse this piece at the moment on piano - it's metric is very very hard to grasp but it is worth the torture - it's beauty is the reward.
With regard to all the complaints about his speed, the way Mischa played is probably closer to what Rach himself contemplated. If you listen to any of Rach's few original performances on the piano, he played much faster than how modern pianists play his music.
I like this tempo, I don't think there can be too fast for this kind of music and especially when someone of this caliber is playing. The middle going towards the climax even reminds me of a tango and I love it... I think I read on another video of this piece comments that they heard it at a funeral, which made me a little bit shocked as this piece is not really suited for a funeral, to me it's about life....
Replying to a 3 year old comment seems a bit silly, but here I am. I would argue that funerals are also about life. Funerals are gatherings to reminisce about a life lived and mourn for that life lost. They have much less to do with death than they have to do with life.

I watched Hauser play this piece. I would say, with respect to how beautifully the piece was played, Hauser played it better than this gentleman.
