      @@mr.lemonlime8935 Could be something to do with his "controversy" with Keqing Mains (leading Genshin theory crafters).
      I don't know much about it, so TakE thIs wItH a GraiN oF SAlt, but apparently he was "kicked out" (whatever that means). One of the other more popular theory crafters, Zyox, confirmed this on a stream when someone sent a message like "Heard IWTL got kicked out of Keqing Mains *insert slew of Twitch language here*". Zyox cited something about IWTL's Noelle v Xiao v Itto video, where Noelle pulled ahead of Xiao in terms of DPS - obviously IWTL didn't fake anything, but it was supposedly "misleading." Zyox refused to elaborate
      Or perhaps odd testing methods, I wouldn't know. I'm no theory crafter, nor do I have an in with Keqing Mains, so I'd love for the other person to elaborate - unless they're talking out of their ass like I am LMAO

    I'm no expert, but I'm willing to bet the "boba-roken slash" has something to do with interplay between hitlag and how many frames the game is being rendered at. Hitting attacks at the right frame intervals is likely pausing the in-game timer for Ayato's skill more often than causing hitlag in a different rhythm with higher/lower attack speed; sort of like a resonant frequency. It would be interesting to perform tests on this phenomenon alongside a FPS counter and at different numbers of enemies hit (because I believe that impacts hitlag?), but I don't have the weapons/constellations required.

      This is my guess, It's a known and utilised feature that allows you to sneak in extra charge attacks during hu tao's e.

      yeah i'm surprised he didn't come to the conclusion already since it's a relatively known thing for hu tao and setting your FPS cap to 30.
      this and also how he sometimes moves away or pushes into the plant friend while not waiting for it to fall all the way having some clipping issues, but ayato is the first character that isn't animation locked to the current attack speed cap for all other characters.
      it's a shame we just had the 2 party event and that it also didn't have the 150% atk speed buff skills like the first one to really go HAM with him... also i think he completely forgot about beidou giving more atk speed than chongyun for a total of 39% with R5 pine vs 32%

      @@richardjones8846 maybe to do with being right up against it so the the enemy is hit directly with the sword rather than a seperate aoe for the water slash? Seems unlikely there'd be two hitboxes like that, but it'd make sense of the water hit box isn't considered "ranged" and therefore doesn't activate hit stun

    I think Ayato's E slashes are meant to have little to no hitlag, and iirc most skills that give you infusion (Raiden's, Hu Tao's, Noelle's) are suppossed to increase the duration if you experience hitlag. Somehow I guess gaining that specific attack speed % makes it so his slashes have hitlag (?) and thus his E last longer.
    Even then, I think 3 whole seconds is a lot, most cases I think it's barely one more second.
    EDIT: Alright, so today it was made official by Hoyoverse that the abnormal extension (Aside from natural hitlag extension) is a bug and it will be fixed in 3.0, enjoy your boba-roken slashes while you can!

      Actually, it's perfectly normal for hitlag extension to extend the duration that long.
      A perfectly dash canceled hutao c1 can stay in her e for up to 14 seconds.

      @@ChaosRune probably beacuse if you hold the button you have more lag input base on your connection , mouse , frame rate etc ... While spamming does still deal with them but the game register them faster

    As mentioned by some other comments, max attack speed was found to be around 63%. The channel Engineering Plastics does a bunch of videos on attack speed, with this Razor one showing the 63% attack speed mark: th-cam.com/video/NjgtoPhe-io/w-d-xo.html

      hijack-ing this comment to say that according to the recent ingame update notice, there is a very low chance of Ayato's skill up to doubling the duration of some effects like his own skill duration, corrosion and smoldering flames, among others. since the bug is related to fundamental game logic, it will be fixed in version 3.0 after comprehensive testing.

    The 29 slashes "bug" is something I experienced near a wall and in abyss , he stayed in his E for 3 more seconds or so and actually I think it has nothing to do with attack speed , cuz the only attack speed buff I had is skyward blade's .
    And I know I friend who had the same bug , apparently he could activate it when facing Zhongli pillar while hitting enemies .
    So I assume it triggers when near obstacles or something?

      Just happened to me while testing the N1E tech. I was testing on the pyro resgisvine, no attack speed buff at all, I hit 19 slashes and stayed for 2-3 seconds more for some weird ass reason.
      EDIT: Happened again, 18 hits this time.

    Ayato really do be the rng king huh. Not only does his burst hit targets randomly, his artifact set also only has certain chances of procing and his slashes are also random.

    Okay i cant speak about the other ones. But with my experience with yunjin, her ult can make your attacks "heavier" sometimes. Which creates more instances of hitlag. Most likely the reason why 12% of yunjin out performed Jean 15%

    Reminds me of how in DMC 4 with Vergil he had a broken piece of tech that was super hard to do. The way you'd do it is charging up a Judgment Cut, Teleporting, but release a perfect JC at the instant you teleport. This causes Vergil to fly up very little but cancels the teleport.
    It also let's you perform another JC much quicker so you could be constantly throwing out one of the stronger moves multiple times a second. If you've seen speedruns this is what they do when playing Vergil. Again this is pretty hard to do though.
    I've kind of been waiting for characters with odd bits of tech like this to come out. Screw op equipment, I wish to slay all with my op combos!

    Oh, so THIS is why we got that notification a few days ago about them needing to fix a "fundamental logic" bug with Ayato's Elemental Skill lasting twice as long as it should.
    Seems like a pretty big one, since the notification also says it won't be fixed until 3.0. Really funny to stumble on a video explaining it today; I was wondering! XD

    If you wanna replicate the broken slashes use a macro keyboard and put left click at 10ms. I think it has to do with input delay

    HoYoLAB posted today that this is a bug, to-be-fixed in 3.0. Ayato can also experience Corruption or other debuffs for an extended period of time as well. Check your Update Summary in-game. Cheers

    This is complete speculation and I have no way to check or prove, but it might be possible that the game is generating attack faster than the E animation is letting making the timing between each slash at higher attack speed clunky, as an attack was generated in the middle of an animation and entering an internal cooldown before a new attack instance can be generated, therefore making the window between slashes larger, and the 44% ats might be the sweet spot between animation and attacks.

    So, with the potions event, you could get up to over 200% attack speed. However, the boost starts to get smaller at 63% and nearly completely disappears at 163%.

    There is a possibility that the 29 hits from 44% atk speed was due to hit-lag extension. Hu Tao infusion can last 12 sec or so using hit lag extension, and that's my reasoning to believe it. The more slashes then could be a result of the longer skill duration. Although I'm not a 100% sure; I may be wrong.

    I think mihoyo released an anoincement that ayato is experiencing a bug where he extends status effects like his E, corrosion, burning, etc, to double duration. Hey said they will be applying a fix on patch 3.0

    It looks like this game does probably calculate attack attack speed enhancements as a geometric increase (i.e. the percent increase in the number of hits is (1/(1-X))*100%, where X is the sum of your attack buffs, expressed as a decimal)

    U can also do n1e (16slashes) whilst holding W(walk) and activating E. (imo less demanding than AA activation cuz i have a faulty mouse)
    I did this for fun because it looks badass leaving a clone on an enemy and then rapidly slashing them from behind, realizing i've been making 16 slashes after a ton of times i did it.

    44% AS might lead to similar situation with Hu Tao, where her E duraction may get extended a little, due to the hit lag, aka: "body cutting delay" which overall; slowers attack animation... and seems cuz of that, affecting skill duraction as well.
    I think you should do few more tests, preferably in a different environments:
    - Few attempts should be done on open space - without attacking anything, which should give a general idea, are hit boxes are the thing.
    - And new more tries, but against smaller /Non-Flower Bosses; as their corolla model being on ground, seems to interfere attacks quite often.

    Mihoyo really did ayato ditry by removing his special attack speed bonus passive from his burst and gave him a generic normal attack damage bonus. And put the attack speed on his constellation

    After 1 week of obsessing on Ayato’s attack speed build, i found the sweet spot for the attack speed cap on ayato. Its 50%. I have chong yun with SOBP R1, c6 yunjin and c2 jean which gives me 47% aspd. I was able to get 23 slashes always and consistent and i think that is the highest slash count ayato can do. For f2p set up, 18-24% will guarantee them a consistent 20 slash count for ayato.

    Turns out that the random extended duration you were experiencing is a bug. It's in the update summary. It won't be fixed until 3.0

    In the game notice, they have mentioned said Ayato skills have a very low chance to extend and this will be fix in 3.0 that’s why this test results is weird

    I think they spoke about the bobaroken slash, I think it is related to the framerate that it bugs Ayato’s skill duration. My recommendation is to not build teams revolving the bobaroken slash, because I think the place where they mentioned it (cant remember if it was an announcement in twitter or one from the ingame bug fixes section) they were planning on fixing it by 3.0 so regardless of what it is it’s not gonna stay with us for very long

    Okay so regarding the extended duration of ayato's skill, it has just been announced by hoyoverse that it indeed is a bug and will be patched soon.

    Hey IWTL, you don’t have to continuously tap to attack with Ayato if you are in his skill. You can just hold down the button as I’m you are doing a perpetual charged attack

    Ok, so apparently the Inexplicable increase sometimes is due to a logic error that will be fixed in version 3.0. Hoyoverse addressed it in a post just today

    Yeah i noticed too that sometimes his E lasts way longer than it should, and It happens randomly. This has to be a bug.

      I heard they gave Ayato and Haran to 2.7 beta testers. So I'm a little scared for him. I hope they revert Yae's kit and stop being scared to admit mistakes.

      @ezurachan childe was also given in one of the beta test back then. hyv is just probs testing his synergy w the new characters or the hydro resonance. unlike yae who received a lot of backlash in her release, ayato was received positively by the community i doubt they would nerf him since theres a law in china, which says thats illegal.

    6:40 this is a bug with Haran and Ayato skill fundamental formula, it'll be fixed on 3.0, that's why he still on 2.7 beta.

    your 29 slashes are probably because you're at melee range and due to the attack's hitlag which prolongs skill durations (like hutao E), you get extra time on ayato E

    I think the max attack speed is 160%, someone did a test of 200+% attack speed VS 144% VS 163%, and 144% is slightly slower than the rest but 163 and 200+% is the same, they did it using abyss normal attack buff card and floor buff
    Also idk how exactly but extending skill/burst duration is possible, some said because of the hitlag and frame data/fps that you end up having a longer skill duration and hence lower cooldown. Ayato should have 2 second downtime but there are time when your burst last over 20 sec without any CD reduction
    Would be nice to know more technical detail side of thing and experiment the Bobabroken against an enemy VS in the air

    In today's update they noted that the boba-roken slash is indeed a bug but won't be fixed until 3.0......... Which is like at LEAST 2-3 patches away (including the current one); that's kind of a long time, and lol not to be a spoiled brat but can we just have a 9s skill duration then :x

    It seems like you accidentally found a way to semi-reliably trigger a known bug:
    From genshin's update summary and known issues notices:
    "〓Known Issues〓
    - Continuous attacks have a very low probability of abnormally and significantly extending the duration of various effects on the character Kamisato Ayato (up to twice the duration), including but not limited to the "Takimeguri Kanka" state from his Elemental Skill, "Corrosion", and "Smoldering Flames" that are applied to the character.
    The developers have detected the initial cause of this issue. As the fix involves fundamental logic, this issue will be fixed in Version 3.0 after comprehensive testing."

    Abyss floor 5 has a 20% atk speed buff (above certain HP% thresholds) and floor 6 has a 30% atk speed buff (with a stack mechanic), in case anyone wants to go to the absolute maximum atk speed and the absolute minimum usefullness at the same time...
    By holding the mouse button I always got 15 slashes when attaking an enemy, but always got 16 slashes when attacking the air. I know very little about hit-lag mechanics but this goes against what I thought I knew.

    I believe there seems to be some weirdness going on with Ayato's E and buffs which Hoyoverse even plans to patch in 3.0 as far as the note ingame states

    The real question here...After this team bursts and his E, then what??? What bothers me is that the team ( any team so far) is basically dead after all their bursts. I can't find a good way (team) to have acceptable amount of attack speed, damage and energy recharge in the same time. This character is so well made but no respectful team is possible for it yet.

    Ayato's E (and other effects) were said to be bugged in the "known issues" section of the update summary today. The undisclosed bug makes these effects last up to twice their duration.
    IMHO, I'd go with whatever the bug is *plus* @GryphonTooth's comment citing an interplay of hitlag and frame timing, although I would not fully support every detail of their theory.

    Ayato's elemental skill's description states that using the elemental skill again while in his kyouka stance will reset the stance and overwrite the previous state. There is something shady here, as there's no obvious way of prolonging his kyouka stance and there's no obvious way of reducing his E's CD. So there might be an hidden mechanic to reliably force the stance to last longer, or they may just have mistranslated the last part of E's description.

      His clone explosion counts as skill damage, so in theory we can reset its cooldown with Sacrifical Sword and Gamblers 4-piece set, so double or triple casting his E is achievable. There's also that one abyss card we never take that can reset skill cooldown upon killing an enemy (it likes to appear in chambers with only one enemy).

    Seeing 84 attack speed. My brain: I'M THE STORM THAT IS APPROACHING. Me observing the Boba broken section. I think he's clipping forward when he slashes then the game snaps him back causing a mini animation cancel. It's inconsistencies might be because of the way hit boxes interact with one another. There's points that Ayato's hitbox might be inside the regisvines hitbox.

    Oddly I actually had the boba-roken slash occur in his demo. I'm not sure how many slashes occurred, but it was quiet evident he was extending well beyond his normal burst duration. I actually fumbled through his kit to see if I could identify why it would be longer (vs shorter) and came to the conclusion he's bugged

    So hoyoverse already posted about the Bobaroken Slash... They understand what the bug is, but.... They won't fix it until 3.0 since it requires system changes to fix it (and other negative effects that can last longer than intended by the same cause!). So enjoy broken Ayato until then I guess :D

    Honestly all this attack speed increases really makes me wish there was an artifact, or sub/main stat on artifact that could increase attack speed. Of course adding more stat variations decreases the chance of people getting the stat they want, but it also decreases the chances of getting the stats you don't want as well.

    It probably has to do with what frames the game accepts inputs at. I think a good example is the Contra games, where hammering as fast as you can gets less bullets out than mashing in a particular pattern.
    Song of Pines may also have a unique application of its attack speed since the 29 slices only worked with it.
