He's totally correct on this, if you watch a top 10 video you often see an unusual pick at number 1... Fine if they are open about being sponsored or have received the fragrance for free, otherwise it's totally disingenuous and pointless in taking any of their recommendations seriously.

He’s not done a bad thing at all, especially if you consider he could be giving a little heads up to new people to the YT fragrance world. Not everyone is aware of the “influencer” bs. He spoke his mind… nothing wrong with that.

I respect people who tell the truth. Nothing in the manual says the truth is painless or pretty.
Even though majority of the scent profiles I lean to don't overlap with your preferences, I watch you for your personality, caustic humor and bluntness that some may even find offensive or shocking ( I do not). I enjoy balance of all personalities

I actually like you're channel because of the types of fragrances you review, I like a very wide range of scent profiles but being older and somewhat new to the fragrance game (beyond having maybe 5 frags) I'm finding myself truly enjoying unique yet unpopular scent dna's, keep up the great videos and info 🙏

And I respect the fact you gave a shot at creating a perfume. I do watch your channel from time to time, which is not the case for most channels of "influencers" (although not subscribed to your channel... yet?)
I believe that there's something shady around that S-Boy juice. Never smelled the scent,but lot of red flags...🤔
So my take, he sort of was one of the "founding members" of this platform and it is a fair gripe.
The other influencers have every right to do videos for views, be somewhat disingenuous, get free bottles to promote etc but on the same note he has every right to point it out and disagree.
I think his video was done with decorum and tact. I do agree with him which is why I basically unsubbed to most channels as I no longer found value in another Chaos Fragrances top 10 repeat list.
Really the point he was hammering home to me was do not be misled by people in favor of their own monetary pursuits and gain.
Yes you have your own brand but that is very transparent and you are also very honest.
A lot of people on this platform either justify to themselves something is actually good or straight up lie which is really awful for people new to this arena as they are getting bamboozled.
Having an alternative viewpoint can at least give viewers a semblance of balance and parity on what transpires.

No he does not attack them. He just tell people those who are new to this hobby to take the todays fragrance influencer with a grain of salt and that is because we all know most of them get free bottles and get paid to talk positive about some brands or fragrances
Ok I have a question,I have many fragrances I have been around a long time started with Aramis I still use occasionally but really out all the different fragrances I have my real favourite is chanel pour monsieur I know it’s old school but find really this lasts such a short time fragrance wise on skin, I don’t care if someone says it lasts 6-8 hours they lie what would be something similar smell that has some guts to it office wear if you have any idea😊

Perfume reviewers should be genuine because they are providing information that consumers rely on to make purchase decisions. If reviewers are biased or influenced by gifts or money, they are not providing accurate information, which can lead to people wasting money on an expensive item. Read reviews from a variety of sources, as this will give you a more balanced view.
I think its important to note that Soulja boy tried to release a gaming console a few years back that was nothing but a scam. That alone should be a huge red flag to anyone.
That price of 250 dollars is insane for you to pay for a 50 dollar Cologne 😂
How I see it:
- Not everyone knowes how this YT works, so anyone explaining about it is welcome as long as they stick to facts.
- Fragrances are about personal taste en not about good or bad.
- If people buy a recommended fragrance they turn out not to like they should learn a lesson.
- If they don’t learn, I can’t really bother.
Its about ' integrity' if all the 'influencers' share a disclaimer that its an infomercial then fair enough

In my opinion we have problem here with YT itself. All they have to do is to introduce "sponsored" tag for reviews so anyone could filter paid reviews. If someone wants to see first hand review and don't want to wait go ahead but have to be aware that it is paid commercial. This category should include free samples or pre-premiere units.
Well 1yr later, he strikes again!!!! All I can say is, I love truth. In a world full of bogusness (not a word) & lies!!! I embrace it, which ones he's speaking of? Stay around long enough & you will know! 😂😂😂

Soulja boy was an American hip hop artist that was popular like 15 years ago. Rap music really isn’t my thing so I don’t really know if he’s still in the business.
Curly Fragrance has been plugging 'Soodja Boy' quite relentlessly on her channel.
He is right, Michella who i use to love watching became the new Demi. Sboy🤦♂️.i follow her since she had 300 subs. I like to explore new frags and hear other honest opinions about them. Now it's top ten bullshitlist nr 1674.
I don't think he's being salty. He's absolutely right.i will never watch those type of videos in which it's obvious they get everything for free. I want authentic reviews and for that i only have a handful of reviewers.

Promoting a fragrance for living may not be a bad thing. But doing so with saying/pretending to "review" it is somewhat deceptive in that people expect the person's honest opinion regardless of their financial interests.
Some of the worse at the moment are all the buy this clone its literally indistinguishable from the og and its only 15 quid 😅😅
And Mr. Smelly starts his shilling less than 2 minutes into video. 😂
Soulja Boy (soldier) is a well-known con man. He released his own games console a few years ago which was just a cheap Alibaba knock of loaded with pirated games. He's a grifter at the end of the day.

You really sat on the fence there. In summary it is NEVER alright to recommend a fragrance to people to buy just because you are being paid to do so. No ifs no buts. It's worse than being a prostitute as you are actually harming people encouraging them to spend their hard earned money on things you don't rate (if you genuinely like it then fine. That's OK. But with S Boy people obviously weren't doing that). May these people face a thousand horrors of karma

@@MrSmelly1977 sure. It's just an opinion and feel free to disagree but surely you can see what I'm saying? I don't think there's a problems with plugging your own fragrance by the way. It's clear you're promoting it and if you believe in it why not. Same with free bottles or whatever. The impression I have is Perfume Guy gets free bottles but still slags the fragrance off if he doesn't like it as does Persolaise as far as I can tell. That's the way to be IMO. Be uncorruptible. Other than that make money. From superchats, your own fragrance or whatever. I think that's great!
If one is doing a commercial for something and it's clear that's what it is and it's separated from the content I think that's fine too. What isn't is having people trust you that they're recommending these Top 10 fragrances or whatever and rather than them being their REAL top 10 there are fragrances only put in there because they are being paid to do that. That misleads people
He (and you also) does have a solid point. It might not even be just about small brands, but also when you see a lot of reviewers talking about the same perfume from big brands all at the same time and telling it is the best older perfume from the house, or the best new release... this to me, is also a red flag.
I stopped watching those "Top 10"-reviewers. They sometimes have 1,000+ perfumes and only use about 50-100 to make those top lists almost every day, over and over again. When there is a new release, it all of a sudden gets "new" in their top whatever list.
I heared a reviewer saying about a black list. When reviewers get a free bottle (with or without extra money) and don't talk positive about it, they get on that list and won't recieve any free stuff anymore.

To anyone who is somewhat experienced in watching fragrance reviewers content, the S.Boy thing came across loud and clear as sell out marketing.
The problem is the people new to the hobby, that may shell out proper niche level cash for an average designer scent do so in good faith, as these influencers appear sincerely enthusiastic on their "latest hot thing" reviews.

Here is an old saying it goes something like this... Go make that money! In this world the money game has no rules! If you get mad at someone for the way they play the game then hate the game not the player!!! All the influencers making money to live on or be rich, man use them as motivation to make your way and your money.

Now as a man I could give two shits what a “Male” in Canada likes as a fragrance. He also does not like Blue Fragrances so he’s biased to fresh smelling and blue colognes.
True but funny thing is us men in the trades that of the blue collar community prefer fresh and blue frags whereas office white collar guys want to smell more musky and bulk off of masculinity.
Not speaking for everyone but when you work hard all day nothing beats the blue aquatics for us

Do your research, which means either sampling it directly or at least watching multiple reviewers and using sites for comments. No reviewer can be blamed or called out for recommending ANYTHING. Who cares how they got it? Also, I have no idea who this former “influencer” is but again, who cares? DO YOUR RESEARCH!

I agree with you! It’s a nothing burger. Personally, I waste my time watching UouTubers talk about perfume because they love to do so or have something impart besides and beyond perfume.
I don't think Mark did anything wrong. From my point of view, it seemed like he was trying to raise awareness that there are a lot of sponsored products in the fragrance community. Whether his message will actually make a difference or not is another matter though. Most of the people who watch Mark's channel already know this. Also, sponsored product drama is nothing new in the fragrance community. Many of you probably remember when Dave from Fragrance Bros accused Jeremy Fragrance of pushing sponsored products and not disclosing it.
I agree with you Dan. I must say i bought my bottle of Sboy last year after smelling it at Michella’s back there in the Netherlands. After a few months of mentioning it here and there and recommending it. They wanted to collaborate with me and i think it’s win/win. It’s a very good fragrance and people only hate it because it’s a “celebrity fragrance”. The quality is there and if it would be from PDM or Roja people would be ready to sell their soul for it. So on one side i see truth on the other side he seems salty because he used to be a big deal and now isn’t anymore. I find it very interesting that people can not be open for the thought that the Influencer might really like the fragrance and isn’t lying about it. Some people get paid others try get a discount code and work with affiliate. This is business and it’s everywhere. But when it comes to fragrances people are loosing their mind because of a collaboration. It’s advertising and you see it everywhere, get over it. Snowflakes..
These people aren’t forcing anyone at gunpoint to buy scents. Who cares. You smell good or you don’t and make your own decision.

Here's the difference Dan, a salesperson introduces themselves as such and hence you can take their word with a grain of salt. You tubers present themselves not as salespeople but as a regular person giving their OPINION. That's drastically different than a salesperson. It's outright deceit and fraud.
