My Narex Richters are my everyday chisels and I couldn’t be happier. I’m happy with edge retention and the money I saved over buying some PMV11 chisels allowed me to pick up a wonderful blue spruce pairing chisel and a set of 4 Stanley 750’s. Doing that was an absolute force multiplier because I have my 750’s at a shallower angle for all the pine I work in and the dedicated pairing chisel is in my hand far more than I’d have imagined it would. I didn’t get the presentation box like you did, but I’m over 2 years now in to them and would do the same thing again. You’re right, it’s not a miracle steel, but it’s really good. The miracle steel is that PMV11 😂❤… but I don’t need miracle steel in a chisel; I need a balance. There are tools where I want PMV11, like having one for my LAJ to shoot with, but then there are places where O1 is the way to go, like carving tools and smoother irons. When it comes to bevel edge chisels, I think these Richters are a great balance of hardness and their fit and finish out of the box for the price is great compared to something like the Stanley 750’s. The modern 750’s are A2, require some flattening (which isn’t fast because of the A2),the edges aren’t as well ground as the Narex which it’s thier greatest downfall IMO; but the hornbeam handles are wonderful. The Stanley’s should and have come down in price because they require so much time to prepare the backs. The Narex Richter’s (Not the run of the mill Narex 🤦🏼♂️) are probably the best buy there is in chisels. I just don’t think I’d have gotten the lovely boxed ones since they aren’t going back into the box 😂
I very much agree with you on the new Stanley 750's Vs the Richter. The 750's are overpriced for what you get. The new 750's also lack refinement. I haven't tried V11 yet so I can't judge it. Lee Valley is a very good company and offers good products (I have a few). Their chisels are quite expensive though. The only issue I have with the Richter's is the 1/4" is heavy and the polished blade makes it slippery for detailed work.
I have these chisels and I love them. They’ve held their edge very well since the initial honing from a couple months ago. For their price I don’t see why anyone shouldn’t get them
I got one of this richter, the performance is quite well. The only matter should be care is the back side, polished shiny but not flat at all. And truth be told, his handle is looks really cheap.
Hi. For my preference I found things to be well within tolerance. The fit of a handle is subjective too. I have greater satisfaction from a handle I've made myself. Happy woodworking!
Nice chisels I have big collection of ward cast steel chisels lot of people overlook footprint chisels very good chisels and Stanley 5001 45 years on the tools
Hi Peter. Yes! Ward, I'm partial to an I.SORBY, the detailing is sublime. Punched logos, octagonal bolsters, lovely! Nothing wrong with the Stanley, Footprint and similar. They sharpen up and are perfect for all aspects of woodworking.
Hi. I liked Workshop heaven but since brexit I don't buy stuff from UK anymore. I've been offered a set of 6 Narex 8116 few years ago- I don't like much the handle, but that's ok. My initial set had a cracking ferrule problem, they send me another set, so I have 2 now ^^ (I set a low angle bevel on the first one, I use them for paring only). If I hadn't have them I would have look at this, their handle seem more confortable for me but I'm not a fan of polished blades. I think polished sides can be a problem when using a chisel to do mortises but I'm not sure about that.
Hi Seb. Has Brexit made buying more difficult or is it a principle thing? Not judging, just curious. The 8116 is a good chisel. It's very personal, but I like that they don't have hoops on, pretty good value too. Nice to hear you were taken care of when a problem arose.
@@faceedgewoodworking Yes I didn't remember who sold them but the problem was solved directly and quickly by Narex who asked me some photos. The problem was known, they had received a bunch of bad ferrules... they proposed me a refund or a new set. Very professional. Brexit complicate thing and with taxes and customs fees it has become less interesting... so I didn't even try, I just don't go to Uk sites anymore, and as far as I see on french forums that's pretty a common thing now. Too bad.
cryogenic hardening of steel is a very, tried and true practice. It's not a "fishy" thing, even though it does sound like it. It's a quenching process... I also dont know why you feel dirty and say its a tart kind of thing. You already stated that these are middle of the road chisels. Id say it would be a tart like thing if you bought Ashley Iles chisels and drank a glass of chardonnay while opening the box
It's not really a phrase I use and I naturally find the term negative. I prefer proper reviews but I was impressed with how nice these looked so I did a quick video.

I just ordered the same set😃... not because I need it, but because I want to have it😁... thanks for the nice video😉👍. Greetings from Slovenia.🇸🇮

Great review. I used a small can of my wd40 to remove all the oil residue from my new chisels

@@SebR-FR Very good customer care 👌.
Brexit 🤷♂️, bit of a mess really.
Best unboxing video speech ever!! Tool porn🤣🤣
🤣👌
So what chisels do you normally use and recommend?
Sounds like a video idea. I use quite a few for different reasons. I'll post a link here when it's done.
I want to purchase

😂 If you buy chisels from the dump (like I often do), it does make you like a tart doing this kind of video.
@@faceedgewoodworking hahaha so boxed wine then? :D
@@timothymallon is there any other 😂
A “tool tart” 😂
😂 I should have a good comparison on these coming up.
