Yea this happens everywhere. I have a friend who worked for a daycare in Kyushu and ended up with severe trauma resulting in becoming a hikkikomori because of all the bullying and mental abuse from both the students parents and fellow colleagues. Even where I’m from I have another friend who left his daycare for similar reasons. It’s a rough and dark industry.

I would love to hear more about the Japanese daycare situation, and the interview of daycare professional(s) would be very helpful and informative.

I live in the USA and in our kindergartens you can find anything from banal unprofessionalism and indifference when the teacher spends most of the day looking at the phone and not at the children, which I have seen myself many times, to criminal cruelty when the child is given a mirror and put in a corner for the whole day and does not respond to the child's calls, which I was told by parents from another kindergarten who encountered this. So it is easy for me to believe that somewhere in the depths of Japan, where are no surveillance cameras, teachers can do whatever they want.

Wow, scary stuff. Thinking about my son being put in that situation makes me sick.

There was a case here in Taiwan where a daycare was knocking out the kids with drugs.

I know from friends that things similar to that are also happening in european daycares or Kindergardens. Some just dont really care, spend more time on their phone or drinking coffee and just scold or scream at the children. Best you can do is let your wife be a stay at home till school

I think Japan is being more careful about rooting this out, unlike the USA

I think that it's probably more individual teachers there, though, because Americans are more outspoken.
Also, I think there being more of a threat of retaliation from the parents probably helps to keep people from acting out.
Just my thoughts though.I haven't been able to find much information on groups of bad teachers acting together there.
