Hey Dood, your a good man. Why? Because of guys like you, snowmobiling & Vintage snowmobiles are still alive. God bless you brother & keep those Busch lights handy.😊
Totally agree! I bought my 96 ultra sp in 1999 as a retired dragster. Decker pipes, drag skid and shorty skis, 42.5mm carbs. Tired motor. Man I was so excited. I threw in an XCR xtra10 on rmk mounts, xc-10 front suspension, slp pipes and can, kept the carbs, refreshed the top end, trail-ported, stock heads.... then the carb and clutching... oh boy! Once it was dialed in? Holy $#!+ I kept that sled and took up to Eagle River every year til 2015. Looked completely stock and super clean. Oh, and got about 3 miles to the gallon. Absolutely a monster on the trails.... I miss it. You are going to cause problems in marriage buddy! Good stuff!
Hey man ... love it! I got 2 1996 ultras. They have been great to me ... the SP Model tottally rebuilt was for my father..... RIP Dad ... I rebuilt it to say to myself.... I can do this and it will help me get through my grieving for my father ,and it did... which he passed away in 2011.... I had the sled done in 2012. Thanks dad... and thanks Todd for the great vids ... LOVE IT!! PS.. just add pressure to the tank with an air hose and a rag... boom its primed... I do that every seasond..Peace my brother!!✌
Awesome. Sounds great. I’ll pull the plugs and pull it over 20 times to prime the fuel system and fill the bowls. Put the plugs back in and it’ll usually fire on the first pull. But when you have Trenton doing all of the grunt work. It doesn’t matter. Lol
I understand you on the cold thing...up here in Manitoba it was -40C one day last week and up around -50C with the windchill it hurt to breathe.....hahaha love the sound of that sled
I understand the Minnesota cold man😂 -20 here in big lake as I’m watching this, planning on going up to park rapids next weekend so hopefully we have a good weekend. Great video man!!!!
I just sold my mod blasters as a package deal with ultra spx heads, cdi box and needles. The cdi box’s and heads are getting harder to find, the needles you can still get brand new. I still have the primary with the correct blue spring and 10/56 weights for those pipes for sale.
@@toddclyne3493 hopefully one day I can hear my 95 xcr 600 run after 5 years. Got all my parts now just need to install. Put a lot of money into it and planning to put a shit ton more. !Nothing sounds better than a Polaris triple!

With the spark plugs removed, turn the fuel on. Pull the cord 15-20 pulls. Primes the fuel line and fills the bowls. Install plugs and turn the key back on and should fire quick after that. As for the pipes, the CDI isnt a must... CDI or safe heads. Guys will tell ya to do both to be "super safe", or to "fix a bottom end bog", but it's not necessary. Especially when going to billet heads. As I'm sure you recall, I run 9000 RPM Decker pipes. I run my 12.5:1 PSI billet heads, with a 96 Ultra SP CDI box CU7301. 174 miles on this setup, and ALOT of those miles have been 660-2000 plus foot WFO pulls. ZERO deto, and plenty safe. I dont even run a fancy high end oil. Castrol 2T, non Ethanol 91 octane, sparked by Autolite XS4062 Iridium spark plugs.
if anyone comes across this and knows answer.. thanks ahead of time.. not new to motors.. new to snowmobile carbs tho.. the choke cable goes to the carb and has like a metal plug on end of cable in carb.. now.. i pulled carbs to clean as this thing sat long enough for jelly in bowls. 2 of the chokes were missing the metal plugs on the cable ends.. will it run like its chokin or will run normal ??
My buddy had that sled. He called it the purple toad. Looked fairly identical to my XCR 800 but felt totally nose heavy while mine always felt featherweight. His girlfriend had a XCR 600 which we traded rides for a trail leg. I swear those two took off and I wasn't able to keep up. Those bastards!
What I usually do if the air box is out it open the throttle and squirt the gas straight into the carbs, works just as good as putting them in the spark plug holes and saves having to pull the plugs every time
OH it will run , or else!! Pipes are tricky we have done some reading and testing on the where, when ,how's and whys of expansion chambers. Moving power bands around and such. Thanks Todd Central California Watching
Hey Todd... my thoughts were to pipe mine too... well .. I just like the reliability... mine are stock... one has a DG can... the RMK is stock. If I wanted to race it ... ya modify. I think a good clutching makes it happen with the stock machine... Cheers my friend! Love it anyway you decide tho...
Very good points. I'm thinking really hard about this one. Maybe I need to just build a complete custom ultra piped 680 sled. I have a couple rolling chassis around here. 🤔
And by the way Mike is cool... I like him for some reason.... Marvel Mystery Oil.... in those cylinders along with that gasoline... at first startup... it's good real good
Zrt probably not going to happen. Lol sorry to disappoint. It's only because I have Polaris parts so it makes it way easier to fix the old stuff when you stick with one brand.
Great to see her running again! Pipe something else, Redemption is perfect as it is!
That’s what I was telling him today after we got her running!
yea but ultras are gutless with out pipes. when u pipe an ultra they really start to rock
