    With children, full time job and lots of on going projects, time is at a premium. As my interest in reloading grows, your channel is the only one I watch. You always get right to the point, you use plain language, you are very clear and precise in your explanation and narratives. Also the production value of your content is top shelf.
    Most guys rely on the camera microphone and have a sloppy bench. Your audio is clear and balanced making it easy for the viewer to learn as they do not have to strain to hear. A clean and organized bench makes for a great presentation because the eye naturally falls on you or the item your working with rather than the mess on the wall.
    Over all, excellent content. I truly appreciate the hard work you put into your channel!

    Thanks for the info, I’m going to look for a used press, maybe used parts to try and save some money. In California we now have to pay for a background check every time we attempt to buy ammunition. And by attempt I mean I have been denied a couple times but approved most of the time. If the CA DOJ website doesn’t work you will fail. One of the store owners has said he has had police officers show up in uniform to buy ammo but were unable too since they did not update their home address.

    Excellent 10 minute overview! I started with a single stage press in 1972 and still use that press today for hunting rifle hand loads (RCBS RockChucker JR2). A RCBS bullet puller that screws in the press is handy in case you need to remove bullet and powder from a load. Brake Cleaner to degrease and clean out the sizing dies. Most public libraries have reloading manuals and reading 3-4 reloading manuals before starting is helpful. Typically each reloading manual has some useful tips.

    I’ve been reloading for over 40 years now with a Rockchucker press. I am amazed how much hype there is about the “lock n load” bushings, and the “time saver” aspect they offer. Are you guys seriously thinking the 7 seconds it takes to screw in a die is worth the hassle of needing to buy and install a bushing to every single die?

    If you twist that shaping die too far, that shoulder is gonna bump back and raise a lip - sometimes your rifle wont even take it. WHAT ALL RELOADERS SHOULD DO IS START 2 FULL TURNS from the shell holder, twist up as needed to make sure you get your headspace right.

    Very good video, but I have one criticism - you 'mix up' the essentials in a random order. When I'm asked by newbies, I go through virtually the same items, but in the order in which they would be used, so they understand the general steps and the workflow. This makes it easier for them to remember the items and steps. Ialso points out the changes you make when loading handgun versus rifle cartridges. Since most reloaders will use used brass, I also include the tumblers and cleaning processes.

      After you lube the case with lube, you size the case. Then you just tumble or wash the brass again. The lube washes right off with hot water.

      Most kits are usable for rifle or pistol. (Generally) rifles and pistol take different powders and primers. Powder tool in kits is usually geared for one or the other as they work better for one or the other. This is a good channel but be careful what you believe on other channels. When someone says first time using a item it is not worth watching. Get you some reloading manuals off eBay for Lyman and speer bullets, and a couple of ABC's of reloading by dean grennell. Lee precision makes the best priced kits for single stage presses. Any reloading press will work for pistol loading. I have three presses and several shotgun shell presses. I use each for specific things. So whatever you buy you will always have a use for it. take care and you can ask me questions if you like. Been loading since 1978.

    • @dhsu04
      @dhsu04 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It all depends on what you get. Reloading doesn't save money. Especially with the materials costs have gone up, and you are likely to shoot more. Factory kits with most of tools and you need, start from $400 all the way up to a few thousands of dollars. Each component and tools also have a variety of brands and qualities to choose from. Personally, I spent a lot of time creating a spreadsheet to put together a reloading kits with excellent components, and that costs over $3500 easy.

    One day I hope to get into loading . I would like to load shot shells especially the 410 . For now it's easier for me to get my ammo from the store. I have a few that can't really be loaded like the 7.62x54r because most of the cases are steel. Yes you can find reloadable brass but it's expensive and I have several big cases of ammo before I will need any.

    Maybe missed that, but what would be the approx. cost to set up a reloading system in the garage and what is an acceptable "recovery" percent of spent shells to make this worthwhile? Guess that depends on how disciplined one is with picking up after a session at the range before someone else does, or using ashell catcher, etc. To what extent does this effort help offset the cost of that equipment over time, given spent shells can be reloaded 2-3 times maybe? while the actual rounds generally are not retrieved?

    • @StuninRub
      @StuninRub 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      A full on proper set up will run you about 2 grand in equipment before you can consistently and safely reload. Generally, hand loading will not be cheaper then buying ready made ammo. But they can be more consistent in accuracy. You will also be able to reloading good brass up to 7 to 8 times.

    This video is exactly what I was looking for until you mentioned that conversion kit right at the beginning. " will this press work without the conversion?" "should I order this press without the conversion?" "if I order the conversion, will I order the right one or one for another press?" "Do i need any specific tools to install the conversion?" I guess I shouldn't be reloading.

    If you are planning on loading any of the higher powered loads, particularly near maximum loads. you need to invest in an ELECTRONIC SCALE. Those manual "powder measures" can be highly inaccurate. Especially with "extruded" powder (IMR, etc). I learned the hard way on that. Had to use a hammer to open my bolt and blew out the primer.

    This may be a stupid question but I would like to start reloading myself and I dont want to go into it uniformed.. My question is,,, Is there a difference between .223 & 5.56.?,,,,, Now before all the key board commando experts jump in and dirty up my feed,, We all know there is a difference in the chamber of the rifle,, My question is specifically about reloading,,, I prefer 5.56 in my rifle although I bought it specifically to shoot both 5.56 and .223.. But I would like to reload 5.56.. are there different die's,, Equipment,,,powder weights, bullets,, primers,, etc..???? I would like to know before spending a ton of money and come to find out I didnt need half of what I bought and missed buying 10 other things.. Any help would be appreciated.

    • @joshuadeanb
      @joshuadeanb 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Devils Advocate Survival. As far as I understand, the exterior dimensions of the cartridges are identical. 5.56 is loaded to higher pressures resulting in higher velocities. That’s the reason why chambers are slightly different between .223, .223 Wilde, and 5.56.

    I guess it would be a good hobby, but from what I hear , there no primers, bullets, cases, or powder, best to invest in a crossbow!

    My recommendation, for rifles a single stage press, for handgun a progressive press. (NRA certified instructor)

      For training and IPSC/USPSA/3 gun competition rifle and pistol ammo, a Dillon XL650 or 1050 is all you need. Would not even consider single stage for .223 you are going to shoot hell a lot (say like 3000 and more per year). Getting 1 MOA from non sorted brass, cheap 55 gr. bullets (copper plated) and literally farting it out on XL650. Electric trimmer, swage it swager (users of 1050 are in advantage) and done. For lubing, isopropyl alcohol and lanolin mix sprayed into plastic bag, cases shaken inside (by few hundreds), sized, trimmed in a electric drill and done. Doing that on singlee stage? Am I crazy?

      Remington sucks theyre not even the same company anymore they were bought out years ago and the quality has gone down. Get a savage you can get all the aftermarket parts that are available for remington.

    Hi. I have Dillon 550. Which primer set up. Would it be large primer set up like for 45 acp. And is it same pick up tube as large pistol. Thank you for the video.

    What would somthing like this setup cost?

    • @billy-waynejeffcoat4828
      @billy-waynejeffcoat4828 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well Hornady and rcbs presses aren't as cheap as Lee but just looking at the equipment I'm guessing close to 400$. To knock off some money tho Lee presses are the cheapest around and have given many people success. Plus the threading is universal I believe on most presses so the Hornady conversion kit should fit the same as that rcbs.

    • @billy-waynejeffcoat4828
      @billy-waynejeffcoat4828 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I mean I'm pretty sure a turret Lee press or a progressive Lee press is cheaper than that rcbs single stage.

      @garyself9213 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I bought used rcbs and don't have alot in it so that's the way to go. The most i have in it is supplies

    Sorry buddy but you seem to have made the assumption that your viewer has at least, some knowledge of the reload process. I do not! Looking for a start to finish video, explaining the process, as well as the tools and equipment; what each item’s specific task is, maybe why it is important, and the proper process of using it in the reloading chain.
    Thanks 😀
