  • In case it’s not apparent, narration is recorded afterwards. Basically I record my gameplay, then write & record voice lines based on what happened. Additionally, some footage isn’t from the challenge world - e.g. me killing a creeper is from a separate world, because killing in the challenge world would break the rules. I have ideas for how to more clearly delineate gameplay in future episodes, but suggestions are welcome too.
Episode 1 of ??? in Eightfold series; Seed 1.
    RULES LIST:
1 - The player may not directly kill any mob. The player is considered to have directly killed a mob when a player action increases the “You killed” value on the mob statistics screen.
    • If the player directly kills a mob, the challenge is instantly over.
    • Ignore the “Mob Kills” value on the general statistics screen.
2 - The player may indirectly kill a mob if that kill is for a purpose sanctioned by other rules. The player is considered to have indirectly killed a mob when (A) a player action (B) which does not meet the criteria for a direct kill (C) and can reasonably be considered as directed at a mob (D) results in the death of said mob (E) who may not have otherwise died due to that game mechanic.
    • Actions do not have to increase the “Mob Kills” value on the general statistics screen to be considered indirect kills.
    • Stipulation (C) provides leniency to actions which unintentionally result in mob death.
    • Stipulation (D) considers death to only be an existing mob having their health reduced to zero. Despawning is not death.
3 - If the only way to obtain an item is by killing a mob, the player may indirectly kill the relevant mob in order to obtain that item. If an item can be obtained through other methods, the player may not indirectly kill the mob for the purpose of obtaining that item.
    • Killing mobs to acquire kill-exclusive items should be done in moderation. As a guideline, the player should only do it when seeking the item for a specific purpose, and should avoid it if they can supplement the item.
    • Due to the moderation guideline, the player should never kill mobs to obtain the following: prismarine shards, discs, tide armor trim, and totems of undying.
    • If the player kills a mob for the purpose of obtaining a kill-exclusive item and a different item is dropped, the byproduct should be destroyed. If a mob’s death did not occur due to the player killing it with the intention of obtaining the mob’s drops, any items the mob’s death provides may be used.
    • The ban on killing mobs to acquire items which are otherwise obtainable extends to mob farms which would kill the mob, including passive farms. Lethal mob farms are allowed for kill-exclusive items, provided the other rules are followed.
4 - The player may indirectly kill a mob in self-defence. A mob must first target the player with an attempt at hostile action before the player may indirectly kill that mob in self-defence.
    • A mob must both be aware of the player and hostile to meet the self-defence criteria.
    • A mob does not need to have been successful in hostile action for the player to kill them in self-defence.
5 - Though not a hard rule, the player should generally attempt to act in a way that is aligned with a pacifist ethos. In other words, the player should strive for peaceful resolutions, and avoid violence.
    • The player should avoid intentionally attacking or damaging mobs, even if it would not result in the mob’s death.
    • While fishing does not count as indirect killing - no existing mobs have their health reduced to zero by fishing - it should be avoided. If the only way to obtain an item is through fishing or killing the mob, fishing is acceptable.
    • Within reason, the player should avoid actions which they could expect to put mobs’ lives in significant danger.
6 - The player is permitted to die a single time for the purpose of returning from the End. This death must clearly occur by the player’s will. All other player deaths are forbidden.
    • If the player dies, and it is not the single permitted death, the challenge is instantly over.
    • So that it is clear the single permitted death occurred by the player’s will, the player should choose a death method not attributable to a mob.
