Harley Davidson Ultra - Ludicrous or Luxurious
ฝัง
- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 7 ก.ย. 2023
- After trying the Harley Davidson Breakout, one of the most Harley of the Harley’s, and the Harley Davidson Pan America, I wanted to try the ultimate Harley, literally, the Harley Davidson Ultra.
The bike makes no apologies. Big, heavy but unashamedly luxurious. Possibly the comfiest bike I have ever ridden. However, this comes at a price.

Love my 2017 Ultra Classic. I’ve taken Ms Wolf across the country from California to Illinois, and she wouldn’t have made the trip on any other type of bike… she remembers the time we rode from Nor-Cal to Spokane Washington in one shot on my ZZR1200… she said never again… Ha! She calls the pillion seat her Teddy Bear seat. I remind her not to fall asleep back there.
I don’t use the Harley GPS, it got me lost in Oakland around the harbor at 2 am… not a good place to be. 😬
I do wish mine were blacked out, instead of the chrome.
Good on you for taking the FLHTCU out for a spin Mr TAYM.
Brilliant 😁 I am sure Mrs TAYM would love it, absolutely no doubt😁 it makes you want ride and just keep riding 😁 thanks PW 😁
I love my ultra limited, and I liked your description of it as well. They do use Brembo brakes front and rear. Just like the triumph, torque is more important than horsepower, you want the low rpm power, not 12,000 rpm power. Expensive, but if you can go 100,000 miles with regular maintenance and no issues, the cost per mile isn't bad. 😁😁😁
Absolutely 😁 I wonder why they don’t put the Brembo logo on them 🤔 thanks 2WV 😁
I have a 2017 CVO Ultra Limited and I absolutely love this bike. I did put new exhaust, a Star Racing 30/30 cam, and a bigger intake, with a breathable oil dip stick to help with crankcase pressures so there's no oil sumping on this beast. It will absolutely go if ya want it to!!! Get one and you won't regret it!!!
I’d love one but I don’t know why 😂😂 such an amazing piece of machinery 😁 thanks BBBC 😁
Nice one TAYM, nice bike and great for doing big miles, love the all black colour scheme too...
Thanks H 😁 makes it slightly menacing 😁👹
….or hideous 😂 Morning Mr TAYM, I can see it having a place in it’s homeland, or other countries with 1000’s of mile long roads, but not here in Blighty. Even going from Lands End to John O’Groat’s it will be barely warmed up 😂
😂😂😂
Marvellous Mr TAYM; what a fabulous motorcycle, you'll havre to tell Mrs TAYM that you've found the perfect winter bike 😀.
😂😂😂 I am not too sure about riding it in the ice and snow 😁 though I have seen videos of people doing it 😂😂😂 thanks TG 😁
What a bike! As a kid, watching programmes like CHIPS (California Highway Patrol), this is the type of bike I dreamed of riding. The dream is still there but unfortunately the bank balance isn't. The nearest i'll get is maybe a Meteor 650, but they are still worlds apart! Great review Mr T, and yes, I'm sure Mrs T would find that rear armchair quite acceptable.
Brilliant comment 😁 thanks RB 😁
So, so pleased Mr TAYM has discovered the joys of a big bike (I do recall you giving the Goldwing a hard time haha). I love big bikes and the only thing stopping me buying one of these is the price tag, hey ho, Great review TAYM👍
😂😂 yes, certainly not cheap 😁 thanks BV 😁
I have been riding for over 45 years had all kinds of motorcycles k1600gtle goldwing r1200rt vrod suzuki 1150 yamaha 650 turbo now I ride a ultra limited 2016 and enjoying every mile. All it needs is a tall windshield driver backrest and highway pegs. Drive safe.
Thanks Z 😁 absolutely 😁 a wonderful creation 😁
Good review , a bike for a very specific purpose. Nice if you do the mileage on fast motorways and A roads but I can see a problem for most of us here in the UK. Our garages are not big enough to do a U turn in, so a level of manual handling is required. Pushing 400Kg about is no joke if there is even a slight incline. Maybe you could include a manual handling section in your future reviews (or maybe not, the thought of dropping expensive bikes might stop dealers lending them out 😀).
Yep, not much good for my inclined gravel drive down into the garage 🙄😁😂😂😂 thanks bill 😁
I've had a Dyna and a Road King but never loved a bike more than my '21 Ultra Limited. I have tweaked it to fit me like a glove and it is perfect for me! Most important upgrade was installing Legends suspension & Khrome Werks pipes. More popular in North America is the Road Glide with the "sharknose" frame mounted fairing, which they say is more stable at highway speeds than the fork mounted fairing on the Ultra Limited. They are the same bikes except for the fairing designs and components within the fairings. I had my choice of the two bikes in the same colour & price and went with the best looking one IMO, the Ultra Limited in Snake Venom green/purple! It is mad bad! LOL🛵💨
Thanks Wes 😁 definitely a dream bike 😁
I borrowed one of these for a few hours when my Dyna Low Rider went in for it's first service. Now I've never understood the the logic or purpose of a 6 speaker audio system on any motorbike. But riding down the M1 with a naughty boy speed set on the cruise control and sat in a perfect bubble of calm with Radio 4's Womens Hour on the radio - at last I understood 😂
Senses test:
Taste - Rack of ribs with barbecue sauce.
Smell - Ditto
Looks - USS Battle Cruiser
Sound - Crackle of hot charcoal
Feel - just marvellous
😂😂😂😂 brilliant 😂😂😂😂 thanks PGB 😁
The BMW R18 might be a better option, its got a reverse! My Low Rider at 300kg is quite a job getting it in the garage and inclines are to be avoided at all costs! Love the Street Glide/Ultra, even at 33k. Great review, thanks.
Thanks MH 😁 yes, would love to try the BMW 😁
Watched this over breakfast in bed and got in to trouble for spitting tea on the clean quilt cover when you said the price 😂
😂😂😂😂 and now you need to buy a new duvet 😂😂 sorry about that 😁 thanks Loki 😁
Great video. Mat Laidlaw a Harley dealer in So Cal. Watch his touring videos, spectacular scenery. I'd love that Ultra to tour Europe. Cheers.
Thanks S 😁 I shall take a look 😁
Brilliant video Taym. Were you as nervous as I was at the beginning?
Most likely 😁😂😂😂 thanks RM 😁
G’day Taym. First off I need to let you know I have changed my name, if you hadn’t noticed 🙄. No longer NW, now S4B😂😂Should not have used my name to start with, this one also reflects more accurately who I am😂. As you know I sold my ultra earlier this year, a big mistake I feel. Although I wouldn’t have all my lovely Royal Enfields & Bellissimo Moto Guzzi. When I was married the ultra was true blue bonza, perfect for two up long distance, great for our roads in the land of oz. However my personality did change, not for the better either. Seems on the whole a genuine bad boy attitude does come with this brand. It often attracted the wrong type of person to me. Having said that, I did love it. Anywho mate ride safe, shiny side up. Hooroo for now 🏍👍😁
Ha, we must be related 😂😂😂 thanks S4B 😂😂
Probably not a better bike for a road trip, I had a 2016 Street Glide Special, I did over 35000 miles on mine in 5 years.. I toured Europe 4 times... proper continent crusher, I rode from Prague to Calais in one day just stopping for fuel and coffee.. got off fresh as a daisy at Le Shuttle!
Thanks Richie 😁 sounds wonderful 😁 definitely get that feeling of mile munching on this 😁
Wow all it needs is a TV for the passenger TAYM don't normally like the plastics on these but in the black it looks pretty good and the sound on Harley's is always fabulous when you buying one ? 😉👌👍
😂😂😂😂 if I didn’t have a gravel drive that slopes down to the garage, I might have considered it 😁😂😂😂 thanks Crumb😁
Well you've excelled yourself with this one Mr TAYM, Marvellous 😀😁 I can picture the grin on your face even although I can't see it. You've simply got to get Mrs TAYM on the back because when you do you'll be sure to be headed towards one in your garage 😯😉😄 "Don't knock it till you've tried it" as my father used to say 🤔😏😮😯😄
😂😂😂 I fear Mrs TAYM has her eyes firmly fixed on the R3 😁😂😂😂 but thanks GW 😁
@@TAYM I did wonder about that but with that armchair for a seat and her favourite tunes blasting out, I thought perhaps she might be swayed. The Rocket 3 certainly is something special though and I certainly wouldn't swap mine for anything 💘💓😘😍
@@greywolf9292 she wouldn’t like my choice of music 😁😂😂😂 we have very different tastes 😁😂😂
She's a beast m8. Looks the part. You'd have to sell 3 bikes to pay for it and for the room in the garage 😁😆😅🤣😂. Sounds like you really enjoyed it. I think it's great that you are lucky enough to ride the variety of bikes that you do for the rest of us to get an idea about bikes we wouldn't normally have an opportunity to look at.👍
NZ 🇳🇿 Harley central they're everywhere. If you got one have to be a non black black Harley so when you go outside to get on bike amongst many know which HD is yours😂🤣& also the need to be different.
Definitely right about owning 2-3 bikes for price of HD.A 350Classic or upcoming Triumph 400 or a 502TRK be a good bike to go with a HD.
I see there's a 250TRK coming out too & 800TRK should be out soon the Benelli Scrambler 800 is already out.A Trike & a smaller bike is another combo especially if doing big miles & 2 people traveling on trike carry everything you need plus kitchen sink.

@@iantownsend17 Be a awesome bike & you could just trade up,800cc isn't it like the Scrambler.
Very good bikes for the price. They have Marchozi forks & good torque delivery.Been talking TAYM 🦒 into doing video when they come out & buying one for winter bike.
What a beauty, all day comfort with plenty of power for 2up touring , my wife would love the pillion seat and probably fall asleep. Thanks TAYM
Definitely 😁 loved it 😁 thanks GCK 😁
Mrs PGB falls asleep on the back of the Classic 350 - but that's more to do with Ernie's 20bhp 😊

@@PhilipBallGarry 😂😂
The best bike I have ever owned.
Wonderful aren’t they 😁 thanks DW 😁
I rode this bike 2 up. Awesome bike but i found the suspension a little firm. I was expecting it to be more supple like other cruisers.
Thanks Josh 😁 I loved it but had hell of a job getting it off the side stand after parking it on a bit of a camber 😂😂😂
Soon be asking your lady to be sewing on badges to a sleeveless denim jacket soon...if you test ride anymore Harley's..😊
😂😂😂 thanks AE😁 got the checked shirt ordered 😁😂😂😂
Hey don't knock the vest & badges & checked shirt I'm partial to checkered shirts & leather vests, patches of the runs I done🤣 & I don't ride a Harley but a Triumph.I wear a textile jacket not leather so not all in😁😆😂🤣.
Saw a heap of blokes dressed just like that in a inner Sydney pub doing line dancing and you know what not one Harley parked out the front...amazing.
@@daintree2455 And what were you doing in that Pub Dain 🌲 tree
😁😆😂🤣.
@@daintree2455 Those one's in that inner Sydney pub wear the leather Officer's hats & tight leather pants & have a moustache.Don't go in that one😁😆😂🤣.
I love Harley's, Chevs and freedom I think I want to move to Texas haha. Thanks TAYM.
Harley's corner really well especially from apex out they slow in cause of their weight once throttle off loose a heap of speed & get in the way of you on a non Harley up right bike but have oodles of torque on way out of corners. The amount of times I carrying more speed coming up to corners & pass them & Harley boy's don't like being passed by a bike ½ or ⅓ their size & use their torque to thunder past on way out of corners🤣.
The big block HD have that much that torque a twist of the throttle they go hard out for about 30meters gapping you.
Once I mid to high revs caught up & going faster & use quick shifter keep up easily but exit speed from apex of corner at a twist of throttle is impressive also seating position helps from apex out.Downside is cost heaps to maintain especially once got a few years on them thousands a year.
Chev,Holden never Ford.
😂😂😂thanks DT 😁
I rented one a few years ago for about a week. Extremely comfortable for long distance highway work but it was one of the most top heavy bikes I’ve ever ridden. At low speed with a full tank, six gallons, it’s a handful.
Thanks GR 😁 yes, you might notice I inadvertently parked on a bit of a camber, 🤔 something I regretted when it came to getting back on 😂😂😂
As a ten stone 5'6" little fella it was extremely intimidating to move around. But once the wheels were turning I was pleasantly surprised by the handling. Even in Nottingham traffic I found it very confidence inspiring. Mind you, I only put two gallons of petrol in it. There was an added benefit to it's ridiculous road presence - cars gave it a very, very wide berth 😂
@@PhilipBallGarry 😂😂😂😂
Lacks for nothing! 🙄 Apart from stabilisers when you come to a stop! 🙄🤣
I was thinking that... just in case.
The Trike Ultra is only 100kg more & better off with that but 65k NZ 🇳🇿.The new Nightster 975 water-cooled Revolution motor bike is awesome & 24-25K NZ 🇳🇿 & the air cooled Low Rider is 25k but for that much you could get a V7 850 V-twin & a RE350 Classic.
I have an Aero Merlin PROPER three wheeler, two wheels at the front! Based on the original Morgan. 🤣@@ruahinesrider
@@daviddavies5347 Nice love those Morgan's but they're a car & sit in them not on them like a Can Am Ryker,Spyder etc.Awesome though.

Ye gads! You are certainly covering all bases, from scooters to R.V.s. The view from the dashboard made it look as if you were driving a bus 🤣. I suppose it makes some sense if you intend to make all of your rides on the motorway 😂. Royal Enfield have nothing to worry about there..... 😁😁.
Brakes by John Deere? 😁
They certainly don’t 😂😂😂😂 thanks GBD 😁
😂😂😂😂
Here Down Under we get RDRS with our Limited. Just in case.😊
Thanks MH 😁 a sensible option 😁
Not an option. Standard, here in Oz.
Just bought a 2021 with less than 3000 on clock 1 owner from new totally immaculate
Excellent 😁 I bet you saved a packet too 😁 thanks GMC 😁
This bike is so comfy and relaxed, you might fall asleep.
Quite possibly 😂😂 but I reckon it might just keep going if you did 😁 thanks WB 😁
I have the highway king and love it but I may consider getting this… thoughts?
I don’t know the highway king so can’t really comment 😁 thanks Mark 😁
Possible you meant Road King? (FLHR) I traded my Road King in for my Ultra Limited (FLHTK) and it was a decision I never regretted.
@@TAYM it's the icon bike for 2023.
Yippee ky ay! Nice bike, great sound, I think more steak and ribs rather than kebabs and wraps!!
😂😂😂 definitely 😂😂 thanks SN 😁
Just read this while eating a wrap, must be why I have a Classic 350 😂
The mirrors are a downside. Instead of paying for new bigger ones, I just added extensions to the stalks for better viewing. A bike you can ride in your slippers.
Thanks Stephen 😁 quite an extraordinary bike 😁 love the idea of riding in slippers 😁😂😂
I suppose it's real purpose is for riding the vast distances in wide open countries like the USA and Australia. It's not ideal on UK roads, nice looking bike though.
I had similar thoughts 😁 thanks W 😁
They are brembo brakes and they are very good.
Thanks Neil 😁 they are and need to be 😁
Like it? Yes.
Do a lot of open road long distance journeys?
Yes.
Do you have £33,000?
No.
These start at $A46,000 in Australia.
When you add a passenger and fuel and luggage youre likely at 750 kg.
Plus you need a garage or shed with two opposing entrances as tgey are hard to move around.
Also you need a flat roadside to park them .
Lovely once you get rolling.
Eat up the miles and not be shagged out in an hour
My nearest city ....has 50,000 ? population....is 100 miles away.
Even nearest shop is 60 mile round trip with no diversions.
So these tourers have their use.
Its just a lot weight and for a Harley heaps of money , especially if you add stage 1 or 2 or 3 and custom exhaustetc etc etc.
$A60,000 is way out of my budget nice as ot is.
Its why Ive had secondhand Kawasaki Nomad, a 1600 Yamaha, a 1900 Roadliner and a ghastly Honda F6B Wing over the years as the purchase price was affordable. Because Ive always had a sportsbike as well !
I can’t disagree with any of that 😁😂😂 my slopping gravel drive and single door garage would make life very difficult 😁 so my bank balance is safe……….for the moment 😁😂😂thanks BH 😁
@@TAYM I think most us could just afford one , but nothing else!
You can buy lifts that turn the beasts around in confined spaces.
But two up is dodgy when taking off or filtering etc.
My Roadliner is a bit lighter . It handles dirt roads well.
@@buddhastaxi666 you might notice at the walk round I had inadvertently parked on a bit of a camber 🤔 there was some language when I came to get back on 😂😂😂😂
@@TAYM Where I live all the roads have a 35° verge. I have to park literally in the gutter....staring at the cars....
Even in towns the verge can be seriously steep . Hernia number 3 if not careful. Try it with a full grown passenger. Those heavy cruisers can go from truly sublime, I am blessed and want to live forever, to anxiety attack.
