I’m in the same boat, we will be paying tax until the day we die. I’ve worked hard for my money and I’m still paying tax at 77. These lot in government need to live on what the common people live on. I paid for 35 years but because in the middle I worked for 10 years in Europe I don’t get a full pension whereas certain people who have never worked seem to get full pensions.

We are from the baby boomer generation,yes most of us are now O A P s, but we paid NI contributions for 50 yrs not a measly 35 yrs like the new pension,but this states that we paid more than 15 yrs more to qualify for our state pension which is nearly £200 less per month than people retiring now. By the time they finish taxing her, she's only left with £20 more a month on her pension. The woman next door has never worked a day in her life and has just had a new boiler, kitchen and her bungalow redecorated. Mum can't afford to do any of that. She also gets a discount on her rent and other benefits on top of her pension.
You are right. My friend from S America worked part-time for 15 years in a book-packing warehouse and now receives pension credits which brings her pension to just £2 per month below my pension and I paid in for 39 years.

What about the people who past away before drawing a pension. I don't buy the going on about pensioners this and pensioners that. Pension payments should be the same as the minimum national wage, My DWP is £13k pa Min Wage for 37.5 hr week is £22.5k pa , I don’t qualify for Pension Credits so I’m actually worse off than someone who can claim credits and their pension is at least £14.5k pa what pathetic people make such stupid decisions = MP’s
There should be a National Insurance Institute, an independent authority that receives all the contributions and makes all the payments. The DWP should have no contact with the money whatsoever because it is a government department controlled by the Treasury and as such the funds can be used for other purposes. These funds, as in today's system, are not ringfenced. These funds should sacrosanct and untouchable. The Government makes the rules, that is fine, but does not administer the funds.
With all the new British in the country, surely there are more paying national insurance and tax to cover the pensioners? After all the population of the country is substantially more than in 1950/60’s.

I am a WASPI and the government have diddled me out of £49,000 already, me and many others. Also I had to give up work to look after my mum and dad and all I got was a measly £60.00 a week, I had been earning £25,000 at that time. I saved the government an absolute fortune by looking after my parents and now I need help. At this rate I will end up being a bag lady on the streets! I had to put my home for equity release just so that I could get through to state pension age, this is just about gone....so there is no hope of me being able to pay for any kind of care or care home...This is all down to the government..I dare say that there are many like me.

Doesn't work like that mate. If someone who is 60 rocks up on a boat they clearly won't have paid in to the system. They will simply get some form of benefits and not the actual pension.

We are from the baby boomer generation,yes most of us are now O A P s, but we paid NI contributions for 50 yrs not a measly 35 yrs like the new pension,but this states that we paid more than 15 yrs more to qualify for our state pension which is nearly £200 less per month than people retiring now.
So they should leave us alone now..
If you are a pensioner who owns a home and paying council tax then you already have a 3% levy on your council tax to pay towards social care. Where does it all stop ??

@susanmills4843 no you really don't. My mother did what she thought was the right thing and saved into a pension all her life. By the time they finish taxing her, she's only left with £20 more a month on her pension. The woman next door has never worked a day in her life and has just had a new boiler, kitchen and her bungalow redecorated. Mum can't afford to do any of that. She also gets a discount on her rent and other benefits on top of her pension.

You are right. My friend from S America worked part-time for 15 years in a book-packing warehouse and now receives pension credits which brings her pension to just £2 per month below my pension and I paid in for 39 years.

Some people who have worked (are working) may have paid NI for years but unfortunately they die before reaching pension age. That money has still been paid in !
We were working once & I paid plenty of N.I as I worked up to 12 hour shift's.
What about the people who past away before drawing a pension. I don't buy the going on about pensioners this and pensioners that. We signed up to the deal 50 odd years, we've honered our side of the bargain. As for the NHS and the elderly living longer. That's our fault. Has anyone got the figures of how many past away early ? Of course, it's too much to ask that politicians and the like to factor in these facts .

Pension payments should be the same as the minimum national wage, My DWP is £13k pa Min Wage for 37.5 hr week is £22.5k pa , I don’t qualify for Pension Credits so I’m actually worse off than someone who can claim credits and their pension is at least £14.5k pa what pathetic people make such stupid decisions = MP’s
There should be a National Insurance Institute, an independent authority that receives all the contributions and makes all the payments. The DWP should have no contact with the money whatsoever because it is a government department controlled by the Treasury and as such the funds can be used for other purposes. These funds, as in today's system, are not ringfenced. These funds should sacrosanct and untouchable. The Government makes the rules, that is fine, but does not administer the funds.

Why should a pensioner who works & collects the state pension be entitled to the winter fuel allowance when in most cases they are bringing in more money than a full time worker
@@Fabbydabby1 I am talking about poor pensioners like me, not those who are still able to work. Anyone who has less than £15,000 a year should be entitled to help. I am a WASPI and the government have diddled me out of £49,000 already, me and many others. Also I had to give up work to look after my mum and dad and all I got was a measly £60.00 a week, I had been earning £25,000 at that time. I saved the government an absolute fortune by looking after my parents and now I need help. At this rate I will end up being a bag lady on the streets! I had to put my home for equity release just so that I could get through to state pension age, this is just about gone....so there is no hope of me being able to pay for any kind of care or care home...This is all down to the government..I dare say that there are many like me.
