  • One of the free rides available on Taunton Bus Day, 11th May2014.
The bus is a double decker Daimler built under strict wartime utility standards for Huddersfield Joint Omnibus Company. It later saw service around Nottingham. Currently it is in London Transport colours. Similar buses were used from LT's Merton Garage.
I rode on this type of bus on East Kent route around 1950 between Whitstable and Canterbury.
The route on video starts along North Street into Bridge Street then Station Road and we call at main line station. We then proceed along Greenway Road, A358 and continue on that road to Bishops Lydeard Station.

We get the best seat in the bus! Glad to see the results of your new camcorder Gordon. The quality is great! I used to ride to school in a similar utility Guy bus with the long seats upstairs. In those days we were surrounded by cigarette smoke from people going to work which couldn't have been very healthy!

Never smoked myself. Were we not told it was good for you? Steadied the nerves!!
I took the Bishops Lydeard bus again late afternoon and was dropped ner my home. A bonus appreciated.

Thanks. The rain did not last long and did not spoil the day.

ADMIRALSCORNER Thank you, I treat that as a real compliment. Would have been pleased to see you. However not surprised I missed you as we went on all six services except the Stoke St Mary trip. Spent very little time at Castle Green.
I finished schooling in 1956 in Dartford. The coach on display built by Beadles was their demonstrator. We had a school trip to their works and were taken on a ride to Gravesend and back on the demonstrator and it might well have been that very coach. Must try to ride on it next year.

TriflingCircle I suppose I was too busy at the event to ride on any of the buses except for getting there from BL. It is interesting to see the changes along the way in this video of yours taken a year ago.
