I suppose it's good to point out... Wait until you have your item delivered before you start disputing it. Otherwise they may threaten to send it back!
Really useful thank you. Almost impossible to find a way of contacting FedEx about this issue on their website so the email address stated on the blog very helpful.
Cheers for this. Just got an Item from the States with £48.96 Tax and this £12.00 stealth charge. Wrote up my own version of your template and sent it off. Got a reply saying they have passed this query onto the billing dept. In the mean time they did deliver the package. Will report back as what happened in the end. Thanks again.
Just got a reply from Fedex saying they will issue me a new invoice with the £12 removed. Win! Anyway, this is not just about the £12, it's corporate greed and an attempt to pull the wool over most of the public. I think 99% of people out there just pay the extra amount without realising they don't have to. Thanks again.
Thanks heaps for the information, these guys are just trying to squeeze as much money out of us as they can, it pisses me off and im sure it pisses many others off to!
I'll be using your template! They're trying to make me pay £27 I already paid the company I ordered from £22 for shipping, its ridiculous. Thank you for this info
Me too ! 27€ worth of "frais de droit et taxes" which pretty much translates to tax fees. Just... Why ? I already paid the company 20ish € for the shipping and never once asked for fex-ex's services 🤦🏻
@@campbellsjournal6537 I ended up paying them as it wasn’t worth the hassle but vowed to never order from anywhere that use fedex (American stores) again
Same situation in France. They demand 18€ of processing fees for a purchase worth 45 euros. It happened to me twice in two weeks. They truly deserve a huge trial some day.
I can confirm that the "Direct Payment Processing Fee" is pretty much still a current guise for what seems to be a daylight robbery. I know this because I have just received one this afternoon from FedEx! As pointed out in the template, this should have been included in the price the sender paid them because it is not part of the custom levy or VAT.
Interesting, the charge in Canada is called a "Disbursement fee" and its literally a %200 increase of the taxes/duties I otherwise owe.. I'm going to see about fighting it aswell
ups are trying to make me pay £80 for a pair of shoes i bought from an american company, it is heartbreaking as im not exactly in the best situation to pay off £80 for a pair of shoes i thought would seemlessly be delivered after i ALREADY payed £30 delivery fee. disgusting.
This doesn't work. When I tried to dispute the fee, they told me it was legal and if I didn't pay it they would return it to sender. How could I possibly have consented to a fee I'd never even heard of? Ridiculous.
I had one of these back in 2021 during covid for a parcel that wasn't even delivered to me. I spent several weeks emailing back and forth telling them that and also asking for them to send me proof that they even paid these taxes on my behalf and they couldn't do so just making excuses every time. They finally agreed to cancel it but yesterday I got a letter three years later saying our records show I still owe a fee and they may take legal action. Absolute joke of a company. How can they pay a bill without your consent for a parcel they didn't even deliver.
Been waiting 3 weeks for an answer to an original question via email to Fedex. I'm not confident that they will reply to any letter I send them either.
I recently got a $100+ surprise fee from Fedex (I'm in Canada) on a non-taxable item. It arrived in the mail a couple of weeks after the item was delivered. They're trying to tax me on it and they also added a bunch of Fedex fees. I was never informed of this by the shipper and never agreed to pay such fees and the shipper is refusing to help. I submitted a dispute a few weeks ago showing that the item non-taxable and I told them to send all the fees to the shipper. I haven't heard back yet but I'm trying to figure out what to do in case my dispute gets denied. What do I do if it does? Are they legally allowed to charge recipients fees that they never agreed to?
Thanks for the template, sent it off and just got a reply back from Fedex. Upshot is I have to pay, perhaps the law has changed now? Clearance Admin charge/disbursement fee, only £10 but won't use Fedex again.
Hi I have a q . What happens if fedex cleared customs even if it was not our broker . Can they transfer the paperwork to the right broker. What happens if fedex was not responsible for clearing
Hi mate I received a letter from Fed ex today. My parcel had arrived last week however I have one still in transit. The letter I had received was the parcel i had received last week. It’s £23.32 in total, £11.32 Import Tax and then £12 ‘Other Charges Non Taxeable. What should I do?

Fkin scammers. I bought a telescope that comes from the Netherlands a month ago. They contacted me when it arrived in the UK to tell me my shipment will be held until I pay the tax and duty. So I contacted the seller and they told me it was on them so my shipment was released and no problem. Just received a letter saying that I still need to pay the 75 pounds for tax and duty. What the hell do I do? I don't have much income ATM and I wouldn't like to get into problems please can someone help. I don't know if my seller ripped Me off or if it's fed ex trying to rip me off
Great Video just had this happen to me VAT was less than the Fedex Direct Payment Processing Fee ! was like WTF if I had been told about this I would of had it shipped with someone else or purchased from another seller.
There's one thing you forgot to add to the description: what email address I should send this message to? However, there is NO email address in the letter at all! So how do you communicate with FedEx at all? That's what really puzzles me.

Also in my text messages they stated it has been imported from outside the EU when it has actually been sent from the Netherlands! I dont know if the sender did not pay it taxes beforehand to fedex and to rip me off or its actually fedex trying to rob me
The information in this video is for the Direct Payment Processing Fee (or variation of that name, usually about £12). It won't stop any tax charges, those have to be paid. Also note that since Brexit (assuming you're UK based) there are likely to be additional tax charges that wouldn't have applied before we left.
Can I contact HM Revenue and Customs and pay the total import Charge (Item + Shipping Charge) to HRMC direct.? After I have paid this import Duty to HMRC Then there is no Handling of the Import Duty transaction by the Courier... so no Handling Charge is due because, like you said, the Shipping Charge has already been paid to the Seller when the purchase was made and there is no contract or obligation between the Buyer and the Courier. Am I correct in this?
I don't think you can bypass them, I think (but am no expert) the shipping firm pays the charge to HMRC automatically before you're even notified about it. They then pass on the HMRC charge to you (which is correct) but add on a random £12 fee and hope you won't notice/challenge it.
Ok so yeah they wrote back and removed the charge! So I only have to pay my tax of £7! However I don’t know how to pay since the link doesn’t work anymore with the updated invoice.
I sent the same email but Fedex keeps replying to me saying I have to pay it and that its my responsibility. I also asked for a full tax breakdown calculation which they are ignoring. I've sent them a total of 3 emails. Now I have raised a complaint against FedEx via resolver.com Does anyone else have any other advice to push back on this? Am I legally obliged to pay this Direct Payment Processing fee? The seller offered me free shipping and I was only made aware of the Import Tax + Custom charges. The FedEx fee wont break the bank but it doesn't seem fair at all since I was not informed of it.
