I was there in March 1977. What an amazing and interesting experience. I stayed at the Rossyia Hotel, not too far from Red Square and St. Basil's. Visiting Lenin's tomb was fascinating. Didn't go inside Basil's, it was closed when I was there, so this video is great. KGB still in control while we were there. INTOURIST (translate KGB) were the guides on all our bus tours. It was a reat trip. I'll never forget it.
I just did a 1000 Piece puzzle on the st Basils cathedral, so i had to check out some videos of it. what an Amazing Building / church. with Love from USA.
This is a church complex, with each unique dome over a separate church, all joined together. The mystery room, is a church called hram, it has a reliquary, a tomb just to the right, The main church is at 3:28. The building complex is dedicated to the two main St. Basil the Great and to The Protection of The Birthgiver-of-God. East Roman (Orthodox) canons (laws), state that all 7 churches can simutaneously conduct Divine Services on any given day.
Very beautiful and well done for capturing the inside of the cathedral so well. It's very tricky to do in a way that shows the natural beauty of the icons, wall paintings and architecture. I was inside it in 2003 and this has brought back the memories of the visit.
Amazing. I love that church and would love to visit. Whenever I see intricate shapes on the outside, I immediately want to investigate the spaces inside those shapes.
@Trombonist550 The first hymn is sung during the first entrance of the priest from the Heavenly Doors. The second hymn is "Gospodi Pomiluj", equivilent to "lord have mercy", or "kyrie eleison".
RIA NOVOSTI has just produced a great panoramic virtual tour of St Basil's interior. Don't need to know Russian to do the tour - just click on the icon (развернуть карту) in bottom left corner of the image of St Basils to open the map and then click on any of the numbered links to tour those areas of the Cathedral. To go there, do a google search on the words "ИНФОграфика Храм Василия Блаженного в Москве".
The room at 2:32 looks like the Nave of the church. This is where the Orthodox Faithful congregate and worship. The large structure to the right is, what we call in the Greek Orthodox Church, the epitafio. It is a representation of the Tomb of Christ. During Good Friday services a depiction of Christ rests in the tomb. The large doors (called the Beautiful Gates) separate the Nave from the Altar. To each side of the Beautiful Gates is the Ikonostasi (again the Greek word) or Icon stand.
That roomed that looked like the highlight, which you didn't know what it was (because you didn't take the audio tour, I believe you said)...You were standing in a nave, which is the part of a church where churchgoers stand during services. The wall you were facing was an iconostasis. The altar would be behind the iconostasis.
Putinologist the "paintings" are called icons and much are more than just painting, but rather theology in color. And I believe the room you were unsure about is a side chapel or the main church part of the church. Since that wall with the doors in the center and with the icons above and on the sides of the doors is an iconostasis or icon screen that separates the sanctuary from the nave.
Russia 🇷🇺 represent Baltazar, the 3rd Magis that offered the Myrrh to Jesus on His birth. The Russian Orthodox Church will be responsible for preaching the gospel in Communist nations. Long live Russia 🇷🇺.
Old Russie architecture is soooo beautiful!

it gives me goosebumps when i try to take a look back at the richness of purity ,peace , satisfaction and history the place posses

This cathedral is fantastic. I loved
I lived in Moscow for more than a month and never went inside St. Basil's or Lenin's Mausoleum. I feel like I have missed something.

It can be used for Liturgy. This rendition is by the Robert Shaw Festival Singers. You can find it online...

@AKmacintosh Thank God!
Cool...
Is it possible to purchase the music that you used?
what is the name of this piece of music?
@danielmkubacki musical instruments are banned by the Orthodox Church. Only the voice is used for sacred music.
Ohhh I thought there would be candies hanging outside and inside, domes look like crispie cones ... :(
Oh baby a triple this is such a old video I feel as if I’m timé traveling lol
The tetris church. I still think it’s ironic that the most well known building in a former atheist republic would be a church.
I've been here. well mainly cause I'm from Russia😏
Does St Basil's Cathedral have a pipe organ?
What is the name of this recording?
Then Ivan the Terrible blinded the architects so that they could never make anything more beautiful.
Beautiful and is one of the great icon of Russia.
I'd rather see the camel or yak that the videographer was apparently riding when he shot this footage.
