Absolutely fantastic. This is certainly one of the most impressive performances I heard. Being able to sing like that at 11 is no short from miraculous, and that arrangement and interpretation by all the musicians is incredible. David made an outstanding job there indeed.

This is in my opinion Jackie's best performance. She more then nailed it. I could listen to it over and over again. Her control is amazing, she puts her heart into the words and you can feel it. I love love love this song!! Jackie evancho has a voice like no other.

It captured the mood of the original movie perfectly, which was half martial arts epic, and half heartbreaking love tragedy.
Jackie on the masked singer said she didn't want to be remembered as this little girl with hardly any makeup with the squeaky voice. I'm sorry but I will never forget her as this little girl that sings with the most beautiful voice I have ever heard from any female singer. This is what put Jackie where she is today and she should be very proud that she sang this beautiful at such a young age. I will always love Jackie and her beautiful voice no matter what she sings.

Yes, the drums and the asian instruments really gave this performance a huge epic martial quality, and also heartbreaking tender high tragedy, which also fits in perfectly with the movie. Foster did a great job. He knew what a huge talent he had, and he spared no stops to bring that talent to perfection. And not just here, but throughout that Dream With Me concert. Many other singers would have been dwarfed into the background by a huge spectacular arrangement like this. But Jackie comes through completely, and creates a moment of musical perfection.

Yes, and the Asian instruments Foster added provide a huge epic quality to the whole performance, that puts it on a high level even above what Jackie normally does. You have the huge drums and orchestra, then a brief breathless moment of silence, followed by a single heartbreaking Chinese violin, plucked strings or flute, then only Jackie, with a light piano from Foster, to start the epic cycle again. Plus most singers, with a huge epic accompaniment like that, would be barely noticeable, while Jackie shines right through, at only 10/11. When she finishes the performance with those last totally pure high notes, provides the top unforgettable moment in the whole huge epic performance. Pure unforgettable genius, by everybody on stage. There may not be another singer at Jackies level for decades, nor another producer like Foster.

That is why her performances are so believable, she believes it herself, and completely immerses herself in any song she sings. I was front row center the very first time she ever performed this in public, at a historic church in Houston about two months before this video was made. It was like seeing Hendrix that first time at Monterey; something you never get over.
I was not there live, but I saw all the videos. She was definitely amazing, at that age totally unheard of, even at 18 it would be something special. I think Foster set that up, to prove to PBS that Jackie was ready to carry off a full length concert, on national TV, all by herself, as she did, with incredible performances like this.
Once every blue moon, someone exceptional is born. And of course, the right opportunity and the right people helped this young girl be where as she is now. Some people are just lucky enough to have exceptional genetics. I hope this kid stays focused and doesn't get corrupted by fame
This performance was 10 years ago. *Jackie Evancho* is now 21 years old. She has remained as classy a performer as you could ever imagine. Unfortunately she has taken a prolonged pause from being in the public eye possibly caused by the combination of some turmoil in her family's life and the covid shut downs. Opera singer Kathleen Battle (then 56) sang the original for the movie 'House Of Flying Daggers'. Jackie usually sings this as her lead in song to her concerts because it makes for such a dramatic entrance. To hear her sing this live now at 19 years old is truly an experience.
It's no wonder the concert production cost was over 1 million dollars for this concert. For this song alone they had to find competent musicians who played these authentic Chinese and Japanese instruments. I'm guessing they are pretty rare.

I am not sure where Foster got those beautiful Chinese instruments though, like that single string violin, and that flute. When I called PBS to pledge after I heard it on TV (not something I do most years), I told them it was the single best event I have ever seen at PBS in my life.

Jackie's last record label was under Sony's Masterworks label. Her latest album 'The Debut' is under Jackie's own independent label. There are certainly other repercussions though, that have happened to Jackie due to the political hysteria surrounding that Inauguration.
I did it again! May it was the fact that I drove back home back home from Wabash concert in a snow storm, 350 miles. My first concert for any singer, and I was 68 years young.
Over ten years ago now I first became aware of Jackie Evancho by accident while searching the TV channels and happened to hit PBS announcing a concert. Since there seemed to be nothing else worth watching, I stuck around. From her first song's, "Like a bolt out of the blue", I was hooked. The pleasure of watching and listening to her performance brought tears. In my, then 76 years no vocalist had ever sung with such perfection and emotion. Jackie became the only performing artist that I have ever followed and so much enjoyed listening to.
I first became aware of her when she did the Christmas special at Disney. I was also searching for something to put on the tv and when she was on the screen and signing I let it stay on that channel, and to this day I'll never forget that she stole the show that day. Just a child who I didn't even know, but that quickly changed!
I was in 5 grade when my teacher showed us her and I couldn’t believe what I was hearing at the time I believe were were the same age and I just couldn’t believe how phenomenal she could sing ❤
I last saw Jackie sing live in 2020 when she was almost 20 years old. She's even more spectacular now. Her voice is more mature and powerful, but she still has the same beautiful tone.

I was challenged last week to name my favourite Top 10 songs of all time! Wow that was a tall order-you try it and this Outstanding Performance came at my number 3!!! It truly is out of this world!!!
Ah the best. I keep coming back to her child videos, this is when her voice peaked, never again was the same vocal power and emotional depth after puberty, so sad but thankfully preserved.
I disagree that her voice "peaked" at that age. Go to a concert now and witness how she has improved....greater power, richer lower register, more finesse, broader interpretation skills and more genuine emotional depth. This comment is typical of the "little girl big voice" syndrome that stifles one's appreciation of her adult voice.
Details fade now, but I saw her in Cleveland at 13 yrs old. Concert was over promptly at 9:30 because of her age. The standing ovation lasted over 2 minutes, with pleas for "encore!" She sang another song. Another 2 minute plus ovation, and still no one left. She came out again and thanked the audience...and a third multi -minute ovation.... My daughter heard her for the first time, and spent most of the concert with her jaw in her lap. Jackie was/is as brilliant "live" as on tape....

Opera singer Kathleen Battle (then 56) sang the original for the movie 'House Of Flying Daggers'. Jackie usually sings this as her lead in song to her concerts because it makes for such a dramatic entrance. To hear her sing this live now at 19 years old is truly an experience.
This whole orchestration is absolutely amazing. Magical almost. Who ever thought of this should get a bonus. Jackie is the cherry on the top.

It's no wonder the concert production cost was over 1 million dollars for this concert. For this song alone they had to find competent musicians who played these authentic Chinese and Japanese instruments. I'm guessing they are pretty rare.
The taiko drummers are from a club in Orlando, and does performances at Disney World.
@@oahuhawaii2141 Yes, the taiko drummers are regulars at the Japanese pavilion at Epcott. I am not sure where Foster got those beautiful Chinese instruments though, like that single string violin, and that flute. I have certainly never seen anybody else recreate a performance of this song as incredibly great as this one. I dont even think the original movie managed to do it this great.
@@rd1903 The 1M was worth it though, I suspect PBS got 20 times that amount back in pledges, since PBS said it was their biggest pledge response event the whole yr. When I called PBS to pledge after I heard it on TV (not something I do most years), I told them it was the single best event I have ever seen at PBS in my life.

@@iceblu333 Nothing to do with the Inauguration. They were mostly deleted well before that happened. Columbia is owned by Sony and was Jackie's original record label. Jackie's last record label was under Sony's Masterworks label. Her latest album 'The Debut' is under Jackie's own independent label. There are certainly other repercussions though, that have happened to Jackie due to the political hysteria surrounding that Inauguration.
I did it again! May it was the fact that I drove back home back home from Wabash concert in a snow storm, 350 miles. My first concert for any singer, and I was 68 years young.

Over ten years ago now I first became aware of Jackie Evancho by accident while searching the TV channels and happened to hit PBS announcing a concert. Since there seemed to be nothing else worth watching, I stuck around. From her first song's, "Like a bolt out of the blue", I was hooked. The pleasure of watching and listening to her performance brought tears. In my, then 76 years no vocalist had ever sung with such perfection and emotion. Jackie became the only performing artist that I have ever followed and so much enjoyed listening to.
I first became aware of her when she did the Christmas special at Disney. I was also searching for something to put on the tv and when she was on the screen and signing I let it stay on that channel, and to this day I'll never forget that she stole the show that day. Just a child who I didn't even know, but that quickly changed!

I last saw Jackie sing live in 2020 when she was almost 20 years old. She's even more spectacular now. Her voice is more mature and powerful, but she still has the same beautiful tone.
love seeing this back on YT... but miss the very end, Jackie's look of innocence and amazement at the crowd reaction, reverting to an 11yr old with no idea of what she just accomplished.
That little smile at the end seemed to say "I got em again " probably folks wiping tears away.

Jackie in this song is so wonderful, as is the whole concert. You should check out Sarah Brightman's concert in St Stephens Cathedral in Vienna performed in 2008. It is also wonderful, especially "Fleurs Du Mal."

I was challenged last week to name my favourite Top 10 songs of all time! Wow that was a tall order-you try it and this Outstanding Performance came at my number 3!!! It truly is out of this world!!!
Ah the best. I keep coming back to her child videos, this is when her voice peaked, never again was the same vocal power and emotional depth after puberty, so sad but thankfully preserved.
I disagree that her voice "peaked" at that age. Go to a concert now and witness how she has improved....greater power, richer lower register, more finesse, broader interpretation skills and more genuine emotional depth. This comment is typical of the "little girl big voice" syndrome that stifles one's appreciation of her adult voice.
Details fade now, but I saw her in Cleveland at 13 yrs old. Concert was over promptly at 9:30 because of her age. The standing ovation lasted over 2 minutes, with pleas for "encore!" She sang another song. Another 2 minute plus ovation, and still no one left. She came out again and thanked the audience...and a third multi -minute ovation.... My daughter heard her for the first time, and spent most of the concert with her jaw in her lap. Jackie was/is as brilliant "live" as on tape....
Her voice is so beautiful to listen to that I can listen to her all day amazing and wonderful. Makes my heart an soul happy. at eighty years old I have heard hundreds of singers, and she is the best.

I had to hunt around to buy an import version of this concert because the only version available locally was the dvd version. I’m not disappointed, it’s filmed beautiful and sounded fantastic.
