He makes a good point Doctor Who needs to get back to its traditional, definitely-non-feminist female characters from the 60s, 70s and 80s. You know, characters built around traditional feminine gender roles like maths genius, scientist, courageous reporter, or baseball bat wielding pyromaniac.

I believe the kilt that Ncuti wore at Christmas has been identified as being made in Cameron hunting tartan.
As a person who is a proud half scotsman and who has proudly worn a kilt for numerous formal family events it annoys me no end to see so many of These reactionary grifters trying to claim that Kilts are somehow not manly.
Kilts have been worn by people of both sexes for centuries and served as the actual battle dress of Scottish warriors for a very long time.
It's bad enough that these idiots keep trying to fuel there bs culture war by pretending that Dr Who wasn't progressive until now but now they have to try and drag Kilts of all things into the argument.

I really don't understand how people can call Chibnall era woke with straight face when it has the most right-wing moral in a decade on some stories (not dissing on actors but a woman lead doesn't do everything). And at the same time they morn the loss of the Moffat era with anticapitalist stories, antiwar stories, queer couples and characters. It's weird.

@@bennettnez4711 Kerblam's "the systems aren't the problem, how people use the system is the problem" moral, where the villain of the piece is a disgruntled worker and the automated systems of the amazon stand-in are a victim stand out a ton in this respect, given the series right before it had Oxygen, a story where capitalist systems literally killed workers explicitly because it was cheaper than keeping them alive.
Notably, Kerblam takes place in a world where robots do the vast majority of the work and yet people still need money from jobs to pay for basic resources, and never does it come up that maybe people shouldn't need to work for a living if there's so little work that needs doing. It might not be extremely conservative, but Kerblam's take on capitalism and automation is very much the conservative "well the status quo isn't perfect but we can't fundamentally change this system, and the people who want to are dangerous radicals going too far" take.

    • @bennettnez4711
      @bennettnez4711 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

@cfsfilms5091 Oh yeah, that totally makes sense. I just looked at the whole situation as obviously dystopian and strange and bad without needing it to be explained mid episode because it was self-evident. Then the choice to have the "villain" be a disgruntled worker was interesting to me because it wasn't black and white, so it added nuance to the story. I definitely was rooting for the workers, but then wanted the postal one to be stopped because it was costing lives. I agree that I wish the Doctor could have easily changed all of the current socio-economic trends of the universe at the time easily, but that would be hard to do without a Moffat power of love twist like the algorithm in Boom getting busted by dad love. I can only handle so much of that sort of thing anyways. I'm OK with The Doctor having limits, and stories ending on more of a grey note or with a high death count. It reminds me more of the classic series. I'll absolutely agree that on the surface it was weird though, they could have been blatantly preachy with a "good" message like most of the other episodes in the series.

Moffat may be a bit of an egotist as a writer, but you know he definitely loves and cares for the legacy of Doctor Who. So to see him stand up against a reactionary talking down on the show is such a chad move. Now we need RTD to verbally destroy Bowelstrek. I would love it if he would make an episode with ‘subtle’ commentary of online backlash and toxic fandoms, he would make a reactionary figure who looks and sounds exactly like Bowelstrek to really push audiences know how openly racist that Canadian Neo Nazi is.

11:16 I don’t know about corsets but men by today’s standards looked much more feminine back in the 18th century. They wore coats with little skirts, straps and high heels. Just look at King Louis XIV of France and he looks super feminine! The term drag queen actually comes from Shakespeare from the fact that the actors would drag their dresses over the stage.

    • @ftumschk
      @ftumschk 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

The earliest reference to "drag", in that sense, is the mid/late 19th century, more than 300 years after Shakespeare's death. It may well derive from the fact that the performers' flamboyant dresses would "drag" across the stage.

On the idea that how in your face 2005's Who was for 'sexual deviancy' is because of RTD - IIRC things Moffat has said online at various points, the meeting Moffat had with RTD about Captain Jack, his sexuality was basically an afterthought. "Oh, by the way, he'll shag anything, but it probably won't come up." which... I think Moffat has stated he took as a personal challenge. The concept was RTD, sure. But the actualization was a lot... More in your face... than it sounds like RTD was expecting in that meeting.

I would say RTD wrote some real crap in his original run. Having the Doctor resurrected from being Gollum in a birdcage by communal thought was pretty bad. I prefer Steven Moffat for all his faults he gave us a more serious darker tone and an actor over 45 in the role. I don’t know why these TH-camrs keep saying the BBC is communist by having minorities in Who because the communists discriminated against people who were different. I can understand why people would be critical of a black Isaac Newton. I wouldn’t want Rosa Parks played by a white actress. RTD does seem to like gaslighting people but he’s giving ammunition to the bigots out there by doing this. Same with making an issue out of Transgendered people when they should just be there acting out a role without needing to signpost their differences. Show the struggles rather than make statements. I wouldn’t want people making a big deal out of my being bisexual as I just want to be treated like everyone else. Moffat gave us a transgender character in a Capaldi episode but no fuss was made at all. I wonder if this commentator was against that casting? Have a transgendered companion but let them show character and give us decent stories and it’ll be fine. Making a big deal about someone being different just misses the whole point of acceptance and equality. I do agree with a lot of what you say Mr Tardis but I do feel that RTD could do things better. Y'know, I'd genuinely never realised that the 13th Doctor wasn't particularly feminine, which I guess was the desired effect hahahaha
that's wild now that you've pointed it out, cause it feels like every other modern Doctor (besides DT2 and Ncuti) has had some easily identifiable uber-masculine moment that is actually kinda weird when you think about it.
Nine has the "You need a Doctor" moment where he literally saves Rose by kissing her (I know I'm oversimplifying that, but when you boil that scene down you're left with the obvious question - Why couldn't a hug do it?),
Ten has that big action set piece where he rides a horse through a glass space portal to save Madame de Pompadour (not to mention the various innuendos and flirts with Rose hahaha),
Eleven gets to ride a scooter up the side of the Shard (though tbf to Matt Smith he does play it in his usual 'hip alien uncle' way so it negates it quite a bit),
and Twelve literally has that scene where he enters a Viking battle arena playing electric guitar, wearing Ray-Bans, on the top of AN ACTUAL TANK 😂😂😂 like something out of a Syfy Channel Iron Man knock-off 😂😂😂
That's obviously not to say that women can't/don't kiss other women, ride horses, save the day, ride scooters, play guitar, wear Ray-Bans, or drive tanks, because they obviously can and obviously do. My main point is that when a male character does it on TV and a female character does it on TV, the vibes tend to be veeeeeeeery different 😂

It’s really the woke attitude that isn’t liked. (I am aware Who is social commentary.) I do think it’s unfair to characterise Will of the Fans as saying “Too many blacks.”

Him listing off the episodes Steven wrote is cause it was easy for him to read, he literally just looked at the most popular episodes only then over hype Moffat to sound like a fan but u can tell that he never seen the episodes at all nor the show.
Also the fact he kept saying he doesn't know the issues with his works is literally him admitting he doesn't know what he is talking about about cause he never saw the show.
He cries about 10 things that ruined dr who, the characters, the lore and the hsitry and all he did is shown that he had no clue about wtf he is talking about.

After listening for a while, they'll say things that show that they have zero comprehension - they're just upset about things the speaker is wearing, or the sound of their voice, their body shape, hair, nose, or teeth, their name, or the fact that they're talking. They'll get mad at women for being pregnant in public, or not being pretty. I've met too many people like this. Sooooo creepy! They make the world a worse place.

The BBC is not communist. The Doctor might be. At the very least, the character is a progressive type, very left leaning, a lot of socialist values. Chibnall wasn't the first to write the character like that, nor was Moffat or RTD. It goes back to the very first episodes from 1963.

If someone hacks a game u can't sit there and blame the game for someone cheating.
Yes there is nothing wrong with the system
The villain was a worker that wanted to kill customers to make the company look bad cause he is mad that they are saving money with robots.
Yeah no that is his fault. Not the system. The system did nothing to him nor made him did this at all nor should take it on to the customers. Heck his idea was just stupid to begin with. Showing how anyone crying about capitalism are literally not the smartest ppl.
Heck this is like a bigot crying about immigrants are taking job type of example. Meanjng he is the bad guy. Not the system.

Why tf she will try to use the ends doesn't justify the means speech when this sint even the time or topic of that. This was just an idiot being dumb.
Now with Bonnie it is similar but more relatable for the doctor to make thatspeech, cause bonnie claomed to be fighting for her ppl when her ppl werent even going throught anything and were ok with their lives, toll she ruined it to the point of killing some of them, meaning she was already jn the wrong, and her trying to start a war for no reason, where she is activelykilling more of her own is more stupid.
Like the doctor described her, every generation there is an entitled brat.
Now with this, it is an idiot that just wants to harm ppl for no reason. That is it.
Thinking he is doing the right thing when he isn't.
So no it jsnt perfectly understandable at all where there is no reason for that.
Yes it is a mistake, he was the issue for that company.
The only issue with that company was the workers working non stop with no breaks. That was it. What he did was still dumb

I think you're taking his quote about 'telling a lie' out of context. He's not saying black people didn't exist in London back then. He's saying they didn't have rights, and it's historically inaccurate to depict them equal to white people at the time. If he were being historically accurate, they'd be depicted as mostly servants and underclass people, not extras in the same middle class dress as the white characters.
If I recall correctly, as I haven't seen that episode since it first came out, the episode takes the liberal point of view that racism is the fault of a few bad actors and not a societal problem. It shows black people happily living their lives while the human villain is a racist dick to Bill. It is incorrect in the historical context, but it is more palatable for primetime television than a dark story about bad the lives of black Londoners were back then.

I think you misunderstand history and reality. The UK never had the same apartheid system the US had. You could be a member of any class and be black back then. Black society was less integrated and smaller in population, but it still existed and yes, there were rich black people, there were middle class black people, there were poor black people. However, I've yet to see any evidence that he meant what you were saying, and given his anger at Ncuti's casting, I think it's clear he just hates black people.
Oh also, it is historically correct that there were racists in 1814, after all the slave trade had only been abolished in 1807, and slavery made illegal much later in 1833.
