Well, my 2020 Mazda came with no cd player...at first, I thought "...this is not good". Anyway, 2ea USB drives in the center console...I have maybe 300-400 albums at my disposal. CDs stay home & safe.
I keep 10 cds in the car. I listen through each cd twice and then replace all 10. I bring the booklets in as well so I can read along, not while driving of course. Usually I keep a variety of, some death metal, some 80’s metal, some 70’s hard rock and my newer purchases. Will always have a car cd player. They still sell aftermarket cd players that can be installed.
I worked in a music store and i would buy used copies to keep in the car. We also had a cd burner for our use at the store so when i bought a new cd i'd burn one fot the car. My originals stay in the house lol. My car is a 2014 and luckily has the factory cd player....i love it 😊

Brendon I do that too. My favorite CDs are in my shelf with the sliding doors. And the next favorite CDs are on the top stacks and the pretty good ones are under them.
Great video, Brendon. Bad news is most/all newer cars don't have CD players. Good news is they have digital consoles that allow them to access content saved on a USB drive. I ripped my entire CD collection (flac files = lossless audio) and have 4200+ songs on a thumb drive in my wife's car. Put it on shuffle and you never know what you'll get OR you can search songs/albums, too. If you only want 120-ish CDs worth of music in the car, you could probably rip that in 4-5 hours. Then you'd have all your car music on a USB drive you can put in your pocket vs. worrying about your CDs getting stolen, damaged, etc. I know you don't need to do this now, but one day...
You can still put CD players in most new cars. In many cases it's even an update because they come with screens and Android. Even if you are unlucky and you happen to have a model that doesn't have a mounting kit, you can plug a portable CD player into the USB slot.
He probably doesn’t have a USB drive in his car being a 2005 model year car. I have a DC volt ( cigarette lighter) Bluetooth FM transmitter in my 2005 Explorer SportTrac that I tune in a blank station and play my ripped CD collection on. It’s Not a big collection around 30 some CDs and I also stream Pandora and Iheart stations on it too.
@@Retro_Man_76 - Depending on the car, it may not be so easy to find an aftermarket CD player that will work. My wife has a 2020 Subaru and the console to control the radio, temperature, fan, etc. is a large touchscreen - no place to install an aftermarket stereo.
Great video again, Brendon. Man, remember the 6 disc changers that were installed in trunks of some cars? On long trips we had to remember to swap out the CDs at fuel stops or heaven forbid, we had to listen to the same 6 CDs for the next leg of the trip unless we pulled over on the side of the road to swap them out. Some changers were installed in the center counsel or glove box too.

I don't just have CDs just for the road. All my home CDs go on the road as well. I have to many favorites. I know some won't like that I take home CDs out of the house But that's how I roll.
Excellent video! Two of my old rides have both a CD player And Cassette deck in them. I only keep one CD in my truck , Tom Petty's Full Moon Fever. The car I keep the 5 disc changer full and lots of the ones you've mentioned are in and out. And Roll The Bones is definitely in. Great road record
The only thing about car CD players you have to be careful cause cars can get really hot I live in south Georgia so the summer months are really hot and leaving CDs in a car that's 120 degrees plus can damage your CDs in a hurry. So I try not to keep that many CDs in my car for that reason. Maybe like 5 or 10 CDs and change them out every other week or so.

I thought for sure you were gonna show us the custom multiple-cartridge 120 CD Changer systems in the trunk. I loved making custom playlists for the car, which featured a lot of stuff I archived from records, I just thought it was so cool to listen to my own records on the road. I remember hooking up an equalizer/boost for the car cassette player, and my friend's Trans Am still had the 8-track player, Grand Funk was a good choice for that one. Some tapes included Tull's M.U., I wore out a copy of Daylight Again (CSN), pretty sure Go to Heaven was in the mix, too. And it seemed I spent a bunch of time replaying the Genesis 3-sides live about 100,000 times.
Ah man I wish my car had a CD player, would've started collecting them instead of vinyl if so lol, so I'll share some albums I find myself frequently listening too during drives. Eagles - The Eagles Hotel California - The Eagles Van Halen - Van Halen Rocks - Aerosmith Boston - Boston Destroyer - Kiss Kiss - Kiss Stranger in Town - Bob Seger Contraband - Velvet Revolver Appetite for Destruction - Guns N' Roses Poison - Look What The Cat Dragged In Who I am - Alan Jackson Book of Shadows II - Zakk Wylde Despite also being a huge thrash, industrial, nu metal and punk fan, I tend to go to the calmer classic rock while driving, something just soothing about it all... Hotel California while driving the highway at night is just so special. When I want something more upbeat and fast paced, maybe I'll go with the hair metal, and rarely some Power Metal, but only rarely. Cheers!
I drive 580 miles every night and you're right about certain driving songs, also for me there are some songs I can only listen to at night, if they come on during the day I wont listen.
I have albums like that as well that only sound good to me in the early morning or late at night. Similar to how certain albums sound better when driving or doing other things like working out. It’s great to have a selection large enough to pick what fits the mood.
I’m very often streaming, but still have a CD player in the car and generally keep stuff I recently got or things I can’t stream, like Adrian Belew’s “Elevator”. Another one I had on repeat for awhile was the last Midnight Oil album, “Resist”.
I would never keep my original CDs in my car, much less the jewel cases and booklets. Way too many lowlife thieves out there, not to mention the beating that discs take when they're being handled in an automobile, as well as the extreme heat during the summer when the car is parked in the sun. I just spend $20 on a stack of blank CD-R discs and burn copies, then keep them in a handy CD wallet, which also saves tons of space and is a much easier way to access the discs instead of fumbling around with jewel cases.
These are not the originals in the sense that I have other copies in my full music library. These are extra copies that I’ve bought used and don’t care about.

I love listening to CDs in the car and curating a good selection of driving music. I never thought to build a separate collection though. Might have to do that. I’m curious, is there a reason you don’t use a CD binder?
How about Bachman Turner Overdrive with songs like "Let It Ride" and "Roll On Down The highway"? Great car tunes for sure. Their DEFINITIVE COLLECTION on CD is amazing. A little more Canadian content for your driving pleasure!

My Car CD Collection consists of CD's that I burned, Greatest hit's, My own compilations, full albums etc.. I take all my CD's and upload them to my computer so I can make my mix cd's
I have a 2015 Ford Kuga here in the UK and the Cd Player was fitted as standard Brendon. It sounds great. My next car purchase could prove problematic. @BrendonSnyder
@@BrendonSnyder You'll always have the choice to put in an aftermarket stereo in your current car. And many new cars can still have an aftermarket stereo with a screen and CD player added. In the ones you can't there is always a USB media port you can plug an external CD drive into. So you should always have the option no matter what happens :)

Hollywood Vampires has some great tracks . It’s Over Now is one of their best tracks of the catalog. Flesh and Blood is tops from Poison , my favorite track all time of theirs is Valkey Of Lost Souls . I think Life Goes On is head and shoulders their best ballad , better , way better than the Rose . Adrenalize is so damn good , Personal Property , Stand Up , Tear It Down .
Some great choices there. DLR Skyscraper is one of my favorite albums. Dangerous Toys are so underrated. Demon Bell from the Shocker soundtrack is one of their best songs. Btw, I was in the 8th grade when Great Radio Controversy came out too! You must be around 48?
That Salty Dog CD is solid, and agree with you that Division Bell is a great record. Promised Land gets a lot of dislikes but it's a solid album; very different to the rest of their material as it is more moody and , dare I say, atmospheric. Loved Peaches. Question for ya...I have a collection going and I have a bunch of CD's that were part of those old school cd binders and all of the back cover art is gone. Do you have empty cases with just artwork or bad cds that have it? I have a sizable list that I need, otherwise I would be buying second copies of them to be complete.
This is why I burn my own CDs. I have all 12 King Diamond albums on one cd, entire Carcass discography on one cd, entire Kreator discography on 2 cds, entire Death discography on 1 cd. Cannibal Corpse on 2 cds, etc.
As MP3’s perhaps but not CDA files. Standard CDs only hold max 80 mins of music so you’re not fitting 12 albums on to one CD…as a CD with CDA files readable by a CD player.
I also used to have a CD collection in the car but when I bought a new car there was no CD player in it. How do you plan for the day you have to buy a new car Brendon?
Do you have aux input? Do you have WiFi on your phone? If yes to both, what I do is play music from TH-cam to the aux of the radio. One bad thing are the commercials.
Personally I am so against buying new cars as you can't fit a cd player in there. That said I am so surprised you haven't got any Thin Lizzy in the car. Back in the day I had Chinatown on cassette in the car and my friends loved it.
Hey if anyone is in the Chicago area there is this terrific cover band called Thicc Lizzy. They are young guys who go to town up there, really can play and know the good stuff.
So ironic that you chose Into the Great Wide Open as one of your driving albums. Yesterday when I was driving home from Colorado to New Mexico I chose a random Tom Petty album and it just so happened to be that one! I think Tom is THE perfect road trip artist. I also find Porcupine Tree to be a good driving band to listen to. Also, is it the fear of losing or damaging your CDs that keeps you from bringing any CD from your collection into the car? Seems like so much unnecessary work to only use duplicates.
No it’s not a concern about damage, it’s that I can leave them in the car and not be without them. And yes, your listening to the same album is a real “coincidence”. 👍

Unfortunately we had to get a newer car recently and of course, no CD player. Have to use Apple Music through my phone. The only advantage being I have a LOT of music I can choose from while on the road. But I do miss my CD player!
Isn’t just easier pay ten $ a month and get Spotify that way you have just about the entire music collection in the universe on your phone and connect it your car and make your own play lists and it sounds just as good as a cd player if you have the right system

I love listening to CDs in the car and curating a good selection of driving music. I never thought to build a separate collection though. Might have to do that. I’m curious, is there a reason you don’t use a CD binder?

How about Bachman Turner Overdrive with songs like "Let It Ride" and "Roll On Down The highway"? Great car tunes for sure. Their DEFINITIVE COLLECTION on CD is amazing. A little more Canadian content for your driving pleasure!

My Car CD Collection consists of CD's that I burned, Greatest hit's, My own compilations, full albums etc.. I take all my CD's and upload them to my computer so I can make my mix cd's

I have a 2015 Ford Kuga here in the UK and the Cd Player was fitted as standard Brendon. It sounds great. My next car purchase could prove problematic. @BrendonSnyder

@@BrendonSnyder You'll always have the choice to put in an aftermarket stereo in your current car. And many new cars can still have an aftermarket stereo with a screen and CD player added. In the ones you can't there is always a USB media port you can plug an external CD drive into. So you should always have the option no matter what happens :)
@@simillarian I have 2ea USB drives in my car. Love them! Last week, had my vehicle inspection...sales dude told me the 2025s have mini-USBs. Told him if my USB drives no longer work...I'm done & staying with what I have.

Hollywood Vampires has some great tracks . It’s Over Now is one of their best tracks of the catalog. Flesh and Blood is tops from Poison , my favorite track all time of theirs is Valkey Of Lost Souls . I think Life Goes On is head and shoulders their best ballad , better , way better than the Rose . Adrenalize is so damn good , Personal Property , Stand Up , Tear It Down .

Some great choices there. DLR Skyscraper is one of my favorite albums. Dangerous Toys are so underrated. Demon Bell from the Shocker soundtrack is one of their best songs. Btw, I was in the 8th grade when Great Radio Controversy came out too! You must be around 48?
That Salty Dog CD is solid, and agree with you that Division Bell is a great record. Promised Land gets a lot of dislikes but it's a solid album; very different to the rest of their material as it is more moody and , dare I say, atmospheric.

Hey Brendon, thanks for all the great videos. Question for ya...I have a collection going and I have a bunch of CD's that were part of those old school cd binders and all of the back cover art is gone. Do you have empty cases with just artwork or bad cds that have it? I have a sizable list that I need, otherwise I would be buying second copies of them to be complete.
This is why I burn my own CDs. I have all 12 King Diamond albums on one cd, entire Carcass discography on one cd, entire Kreator discography on 2 cds, entire Death discography on 1 cd. Cannibal Corpse on 2 cds, etc.
As MP3’s perhaps but not CDA files. Standard CDs only hold max 80 mins of music so you’re not fitting 12 albums on to one CD…as a CD with CDA files readable by a CD player.

I also used to have a CD collection in the car but when I bought a new car there was no CD player in it. How do you plan for the day you have to buy a new car Brendon?
Do you have aux input? Do you have WiFi on your phone? If yes to both, what I do is play music from TH-cam to the aux of the radio. One bad thing are the commercials.
You can always buy an after market CD player for any car. Easy fix!

That said I am so surprised you haven't got any Thin Lizzy in the car. Back in the day I had Chinatown on cassette in the car and my friends loved it.
Hey if anyone is in the Chicago area there is this terrific cover band called Thicc Lizzy. They are young guys who go to town up there, really can play and know the good stuff.
So ironic that you chose Into the Great Wide Open as one of your driving albums. Yesterday when I was driving home from Colorado to New Mexico I chose a random Tom Petty album and it just so happened to be that one! I think Tom is THE perfect road trip artist. I also find Porcupine Tree to be a good driving band to listen to.
Also, is it the fear of losing or damaging your CDs that keeps you from bringing any CD from your collection into the car? Seems like so much unnecessary work to only use duplicates.
No it’s not a concern about damage, it’s that I can leave them in the car and not be without them. And yes, your listening to the same album is a real “coincidence”. 👍

Unfortunately we had to get a newer car recently and of course, no CD player. Have to use Apple Music through my phone. The only advantage being I have a LOT of music I can choose from while on the road. But I do miss my CD player!
Isn’t just easier pay ten $ a month and get Spotify that way you have just about the entire music collection in the universe on your phone and connect it your car and make your own play lists and it sounds just as good as a cd player if you have the right system
