Never over-plan a long trip. Let the trip dictates. It helps with long distance driving to go with the flow, and not to aim for a specific fuel stop, lodge, etc. Always discover as you go, then you see and learn more. Been doing this from the 1960's, at least three times a year, except for 1982 when I did this distance 25x.
One year, about 40j ago, I drove the 1460km distance between Tshwane and my Boland home town 25 times, every time totally alone, non-stop and without a car radio. We were made much tougher then, I suppose. I recall stopping at Beervlei Dam at 2am, to take a long walk into the veld to expend some extra energy. Bloemfontein was just either my first or last fuel stop. Ditto Kimberley, route depending. I typically would take a half hour break at sunrise, to avoid getting drowsy. All of this accident free. Necessity dictated. 😊
Wow!!! Nice video. I will definitely drive to kapstad in the near future. I enjoy it 😀 👍 😉 😄 I like your driving was safe and complying with the rules of the road.

I drove this Gauteng > Cape Town route so many times when I lived in SA more than a decade ago ... so many familiar places ... missing it so much. Time to repeat the adventure! Thx for the vid.

There’s a Route 66 in SA umm interesting. I drove the USA Route 66 from LA to Chicago ( let me say some parts of it since it has been replaced by I 40). Love your content. Bravo.
I have driven up and down that highway so my times in my life. The only question was where are you going to spend one night. Gariep Dam, Graaff-Reinet, Colesburg, etc. The hotel at Gariep Dam is a gem.
