I had an elderly neighbour called Maggie with a troubled life, and I used to meet her at the bottom of garden and listen to her woes over the fence, we became close friends only over the fence and then she died of cancer. I often sing this song (to myself) The warmth of friendship, kindness, and love is all there expressed by the Fureys

This song reminds me of my mom. She used to play the Fuyers all the time. She was going through a recent divorce and she loved this song. I miss her very much. I will sing this song for you momma.

I don't think kids today can appreciate their parents like we did, they are special times. I must admit I do shed a few tears when listening to these beautiful songs, they bring back magical memories of yesteryear.

It is indeed very smooth and easy flowing and what is more it is soothing.
One has to be in that meloncholy mood and just relax.
    Wnderful, just wonderful.
    Thank you, the Fureys
I wish you well, wherever you may be.

So many covers are by women singers beautiful as they may be. But the song is from a male perspective, which makes this cover so much the more enjoyable

Please see the remarks of Jannymouse on the "maggie ** lyrics" version of the song for it's history, it is magnificent and 100% Canadian !!! The Fureys certainly do a wonderful job of the tune, but the song is of our land, our heart and our soul, written by Canadians, both tune and verse,by Johnson and Butterfield. with respect,Tom
