Large intake runners (kinda like running longer intake runners on carb engine) equals huge low end torque. I'm glad someone finally did something like this.
My man, you have brought the old school Chrysler Sono-Ram into the future...sexy! I would build an LS 364 with one of these manifolds on it. Talk about a budget street animal!
nelsonracingengines you build pure badass you could hear 👂 the difference between both engines and see 👀 how it picks up speed and the air being suck into the engine everything you touch turns out power and image if this had two Turbos i also have been reading that some engine builders have put on two smaller turbos and one bigger turbo I follow you 💯 from Etobicoke North Canada 🇨🇦 Domenico Monteleone happy valentines to you and your wife
Would love to drop this in my 99’ Silverado with a heavy duty tranny and rear. Unbelievable torque & HP with NO supercharger or turbo BS. Nothing tops NRE & Chevy’s true big block power.
Getting all that low-end torque to the ground is a challenge. This thing would sneer at 2.73 gears. You would have to be very careful passing cars even at 70 MPH.
I'm curious how much horsepower it would make with a stage 3 540cubic inch kit from Raylar Engineering. The stage 3 kit make 685hp on a stock block with all their parts. So if you swapped to this intake I wonder how much the increase would be
I like this a lot but too wide for my engine bay. I need a builder to finish up my new Noonan LS Edge 427 MID block. Even with my New Zealand taller ventilated fiber hood, I have to think smaller e.g., Harrop Hurricane 60mm ITB/DBW intake. Perhaps I'll try contacting you to see if you're interested in the project. I'm hellbent on an NA low-range power config @ 750-ish HP.
So, what's the deal, 4.5" stroke, 6.35" rods, 9.75" deck, 1.165", 4.185" bore, pistons above deck, .048" gasket? Do the pistons even stick out of the bottom of the hole?
He pretty much reinvented the dual plane intake manifold for carbs. On a fuel injected engine with dual throttle bodies, thus giving it very good low rps power. Its nothing new yet very impressive.
I have n 01 GMC 2500 with a 8.1 that I'm having trouble with... it has a 80mm rear mount turbo bigger injectors and piston work but can't seem to get it right
Will that sucker bolt up to an Allison 5 speed? I'm looking for a new power plant, the ol 496 has some miles on it. And I'm not going stock, I want some power.
I wonder what pistons he's running. If it's the 9.75" deck, and he uses dished 1.375" compression height pistons, he can run common 6.125" connecting rods. If he uses 1.15" compression height pistons, he can run callies 6.35" rods. However, I thought off the shelf pistons were 1.115". Maybe he's running a lot of head gasket to get the compression ratio down. At any rate, 85 pound feet per liter is a very efficient engine.
You have a great mind for this work and are a master in your field. I enjoy watching all your builds. Are you able to design your X-ram intake for any engine. What would a custom cost estimate? I would love to put one on my 2001 8.1l Vortec 496. I believe it would help with the restrictive stock intake problems and open up the torque potentials of that monster. I know you like the SBC but the 8.1 does have some potentials if treated to some good heads and internals. A Rayler kit and your X-Ram could make for a fierce monster. Thanks for all your work and videos.
What would be really cool is if you could find any information about any of their products related to this build on their site. That would be really cool. I love watching a video, getting in the "HERE TAKE MY FUCKIN MONEY" mindset, getting to their website, and it's a mess! You can't find this video, you can't find this intake, you can't find their build of this engine... Luckily though, jegs, summit, shop eddies, raylar, jet, Crowley, blueprint, and ebay all want to sell me 496 race engines and parts. Advertised right under this video description, with photos, while I watch this video and type this message..... You guys are quite literally shooting yourselves in the foot here.
I like most of your videos. This one you forgot to give the other manifold anywhere over half throttle during the rpm test. Now what would it do if you actually gave it some throttle on the non x ram manifold?
I didn't pay that much attention to the exhaust. I was watching for the full throttle. I didn't see full throttle. Someone said they did, I haven't taken the time to go back to look. Maybe my eyes failed me.
Do you make this xram intake for the actual 8.1 vortec BBC? I bought an 8.1 that I'm thinking about building but there is little to offer outside of raylarengineering
+redhotcobra94 Look into the mercruiser boat intakes. They don't have dual throttle bodies but the runners are longer for an excellent low/midrange. You will sacrifice HP/torque above 4500 rpm but in a truck application that range rarely gets used. orrrrrrrrrr BOOST!!!
I love how the whole room reacts to the horsepower.
Large intake runners (kinda like running longer intake runners on carb engine) equals huge low end torque. I'm glad someone finally did something like this.
What I love is that at 6000 rpm this motor NA is still making 680hp and 600ft lbs wow that would be one fun damn street motor
No words can come to mind of how impressive this is.. Tom you are the GAWD DAMN MAN SON!
this is the sexiest engine I've ever seen. I can watch this video over and over and doesn't get old at all.
My man, you have brought the old school Chrysler Sono-Ram into the future...sexy! I would build an LS 364 with one of these manifolds on it. Talk about a budget street animal!
Dude the sound difference is crazy.
6:49 What's going on with the belt? Looks like it's moving around alot.
Truly incredible numbers on the bottom end, awesome work.
Tom's the *godfather* of all _engine builders_, nice work mate...
Will lt go good in a 85 Chevy Dually 8100
Try changing from 360p to 240, then back to 360 while the vid is running. Works for me.
any one of your motors in your shop makes more horsepower at idle, than my motor does at full song...*sulk
L4Z3R37H sad hu? Feel the sane way lmao
Wow, the way it revs so much more freely with the xram. Thats amazing. Would love to stick this in my rx7 fc!
Awesome work Tom, that thing is a beast.
YES!! I have been thinking of a 8.1L build for a while now. how much bigger is the block compared to a LS?

What’s one of those cost in 2024 and what applications/ engine sizes will they be available for?????
Nice setup now for a set of twins
my 78 chevy fullsize mud truck would love to test that setup for ya!!!!! HAH
What happens when you put a pair of air filters in front of it? Any changes on more power?
Would love to drop this in my 99’ Silverado with a heavy duty tranny and rear. Unbelievable torque & HP with NO supercharger or turbo BS. Nothing tops NRE & Chevy’s true big block power.
How did it compare to the Holley Hi-Ram in the background?
Do they make this that will fit other LS engine sizes? And where is the price sheet? Thanks.
How much for the intake and throttle body set up?
Is this still made? I don’t see it on the site.
Would those heads fit on a vortex 8100(L18)
That sound is intoxicating.
Getting all that low-end torque to the ground is a challenge. This thing would sneer at 2.73 gears. You would have to be very careful passing cars even at 70 MPH.
Wow I love to build one of those. Wow insane power and throttle response

@ Nelson - don't know if it's been asked yet, but what are the power capabilities of this combo with a larger and more aggressive cam?
Nice package. It would look nice in my TBSS :)
How would ITBs compare to the X-Ram???

I bet this thing would drop some crazy numbers with a twin turbo set up on it.
Would this intake work with a gen 7 8.1
This is the LS Version of the 8.1L (496) Vortec.
hi. could i get a couple of those plenums? im making an intake for our 383/426 b block
Nice!! Do y’all have a build spec sheet available
He pretty much reinvented the dual plane intake manifold for carbs. On a fuel injected engine with dual throttle bodies, thus giving it very good low rps power.

Will this fit the c4 Corvette?
is that new x ram intake available to the public if where can I get one?
I have an 2001 3500dualie Allison trans 8.1...need max towing power...what do you have for that?
Tom, will this xram intake be available for purchase? and what throttle body size will it take?
What Ls is this ? And the Ram its like a throttle body ?
I have n 01 GMC 2500 with a 8.1 that I'm having trouble with... it has a 80mm rear mount turbo bigger injectors and piston work but can't seem to get it right
Will that sucker bolt up to an Allison 5 speed? I'm looking for a new power plant, the ol 496 has some miles on it. And I'm not going stock, I want some power.
awesome ive been waiting for an lsx bigger than 454. bravo
are these available to buy? and will these colt onto factory gen III heads? like an ls1 or ls6.
why the throttle not wot on the gm intake?
Nice work again guys!
Did this manifold ever go into production?
must have for my 86 z28

is this a vortec block?
how does this compare to your other ls intake? and price?
You used a fan with the X-ram intake...
YOU ARE A MAD GENIUS….I WOULD LOVE TO HAVE THAT STUFFED IN MY 67 IMPALA
the video is all black to me as well
I need one of these for my 5.3
this engine is not shown in your price catalouge. how much ?
Maybe consider making the same manifold for a stroker Ford small block.
Would love to know the specs to this engine.
Those big inch LS engines will make the big-blocks forgotten in the future.
Prices...motor? Intake separate?
Want one for my 96 impala..
Me too.
What motor oil are you using?
I knew it was a matter of time before somebody tinkered around and made hop ups for the 8.1l!!!

Will it fit in a c6 corvette
Gas mileage for road course racing? Looking at the Superlite Coupe.

Stock compression????
The X-Ram looks great!!!!
So is this 8.1 vortec a LS or ?
Is it se size that the 6.0
Twin turbo manifold...?
Why didn't the horsepower and torque numbers match at 5250 rpm?
What is the cost of tbe 496 cross ram?
Would this bolt on to a 500 caddy motor????????? Inquiring minds would like to know.
you guys have to throw that into something soon! PLZ!
Almost 1000 Nm N/A :o Nice torque monster :D
I like most of your videos. This one you forgot to give the other manifold anywhere over half throttle during the rpm test. Now what would it do if you actually gave it some throttle on the non x ram manifold?
look again
I will,
+reltub20001 the biggest difference I noticed is how much black smoke was coming out (rich) with the single throttle body intake on the Rev test.
I didn't pay that much attention to the exhaust. I was watching for the full throttle. I didn't see full throttle. Someone said they did, I haven't taken the time to go back to look. Maybe my eyes failed me.
i want one for my 87 Monte Carlo
This is why I'm here lol I have an 87 also
This isn't the big block 8.1 from a Chevy HD truck its a custom small block ls engine
Was this a stock bottom end engine?
Why not use butterfly valves for the throttle body?
nvm the style which pivots in the center so its not a plate but like butterfly wings.
Awesome once again,... I want to work for/with you guys... sooo bad

how much does that intake cost
I want one for my wife's suburban!
awesome a nelsonracingengines engine going to my country :D
Wish I could put this in my GMC Sierra 2015.. This is f...... Bad assssssss
Cop motor, Cop suspension.
Best motor I have ever seen! How much?
Need this in my 2005 Suburban!!
...& that engine sounds great also!!!
Congratz Nelson! Really great job! How much the X Ram LS intake (the one with Intercooler)? Does it fit in a iron block in the place of a LS6 intake?
Man I want to build one for my 96 impala ss I think it would be perfect
