I’ve been watching these videos from an apartment in San Diego for a couple years now. I just moved to a big piece of land in Tennessee and was only here for 1 day before the garden was planted. So stoked!!!

      Sounds fucking delightful!
I had the luck to grow up on a farm in northern germany with a lot of space. For somebody who lived in the city and now is able to grow a lot of stuff on a big place it must be phenomenal!
Best of luck with your garden!

One of your videos came up randomly while i was watching youtube/playing games.
Been hooked ever since and I've never had any interest in gardening before.
Even had a crack at growing basil from seed, had 5 in different pots about 10cm tall.
Then I put some fertiliser on them and they all died from fertiliser burn hahaha ;(
Learnt my lesson though, now I've got so much i can't eat it all ;D.
Thanks Mark/Russel Crowe for sharing your knowledge and passion with everyone =)

I grew up on a farm and collards were a staple in spring and fall. Our summers are to hot for most, if not all greens. We grew potatoes starting in Feb.and stored them packed in pine straw under the house and had potatoes through winter. I don't like collards myself, but would force myself to eat them, so my children would eat them.

I live in Lake City Florida. Yep, your video are sprinkled everywhere in the world. I’m glad because you have educated me a lot. I don’t use raised garden plots. I might at some point but for now I like tilling and hoeing my rows ‘keeps the weight down’. I’ve learned much about new plants, composting and stepping outside the box with respect to trying herbs and plants not normally grown in this part of the south, asparagus being the first experiment and I owe that to you and your channel. Hope for your continued success and again thank you.

Mark, if you want to stop having to use so much compost, and buying or having to make all that compost, start using species-dense cover crops over the winter in stead of making compost yourself. Cover crops will do it for you provided you plant the right mixes at the right time. And no, it is not a regenerative agriculture 3000+ hectare thing only, you can do it in raised garden beds too.

I really love your videos! I don’t really have a green thumb, but I’m smart enough to know nature takes care of itself with a little TLC and water, and not too much work. I’m in an apartment but would love to grow blueberries, chia(for seeds), loofahs are a great idea, love peas and green beans potatoes and sweet potatoes. I’m in Florida-subtropical climate too, love my fruits, but I guess smaller containers and vertical is the best option for me. How does one make potato flour? Grew corn as a kid, but too tall for an apartment patio or balcony. Raised beds are excellent for an arthritic that needs to sit and can’t kneel. Great for all info you can provide! Saw one of your videos by accident and fell in love with how simple you make it all look! Keep the videos coming!!💜🇺🇸

We live in Sydney and have a very large backyard. Grow all we can eat and some. We are not fortunate to have a sub tropical climate but have a greenhouse to grow our tomatoes over winter.

Stunning!!! I have one question, which you might have already addressed, but how do you keep everything so organised? As in, when specific planting times/seasons for veg are when you have so much to handle? The timing. Do you use a journal? Do you use any wildly helpful books? Do you just naturally keep it in your mind? I’m struggling with wrapping my mind around all the proper timings! Cheers

    • @Selfsufficientme
      @Selfsufficientme  5 ปีที่แล้ว +21

Who says I'm organised? LOL... Seriously, I've practiced food gardening so much that it's in my head now. But looking back on video and images taken in the past and the dates embedded has given me clues to what I grew when etc. For new plants that I have never grown I still use trial and error to see when they perform best. Thank you! 🙂👍

What I love best about your videos is the experiments and companion plantings you do. Maximizing the space and bringing a solid wall of produce.

I so enjoyed the vegetable garden tour! Since you also raise chickens I would think you and your family have a very short grocery list!

Mark how do you deal with caterpillars eating at the cabbages and bok choy? I saw some leaves eaten up in your video but it doesn't seem to bug you

Amazing garden, and as always an inspirational and educational video. Did you consider using the chickens to make compost? Geoff Lawton has videos of a set up in the dead Sea area, and 'edible acres' has a whole series of videos of his set up in upstate new York
