    haha you make it look so easy. need to try n land more kingfish this year via surfcasting haha

    • @Fishingreminder
      @Fishingreminder  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have never caught one on a surf caster. Would you be using live baits when surfcasting off a beach? I caught one stick baiting off a beach and it had lots of baby flounder in its stomach.

      @@Fishingreminder oh wow. they said that they swim behind the stingrays to ambush flounders that flee b4 the rays. that definately proves that theory. i was hopin to land one on a dead bait this year haha

      @@BasicFishingNZ Yeah man, checkout my video from last year: th-cam.com/video/kyb-hj0NrQI/w-d-xo.html I managed to get some drone footage of a kingie swimming around with a stingray in Goldenbay. I think a whole piper would work really good as dead bait for kingies. Last year I caught a nice big kingie on a whole banana prawn (the ones you get from the supermarket) while targeting rig sharks. That could be another dead bait worthwhile trying.

    Really enjoyed this video and have liked and subscribed.
    I've got the same rod and reel outfit you have (BG5000 with 50lb braid and same Saltist-X 792H rod) and intend to use it for the first time on kingfish shortly.
    Unlike one of the comments left behind, I like hearing the names of the gear used. Lets me look up the characteristics of the gear, but you also explain so well why you like the gear you use.
    Incidentally, TH-cam clips or fishing articles that DON'T mention the gear specifically used, I flick past. It’s surprising that so many contributors don’t even mention a rods line class or anything about the reel. Some people who are keen to a particularl type of fishing are often looking for guidance, but instead get a lot of irrelevant information. I also think most anglers like to know what gear is being used or not, regardless of whether they are sponsored or not.
    Got the pro version of your app too, so will be keen to give that a go.
    Keep doing what you're doing mate. Cheers from Australia.

      Hi mate, thanks so much for the nice feedback. Yeah it's easy to fall into the trap of just filming the fishing adventure without providing any useful infos. But that's usually not what the viewers want, eh. Most people, including myself, use youtube to learn something new. That's why we're trying to make informative videos on our channel, rather than just filming our adventures for entertainment. Also big thanks for supporting us by getting the pro app. I'm working on some exciting upgrades at the moment.

    What weight stickbait would u recommend for chucking from the beach...it get decent distance

    • @Fishingreminder
      @Fishingreminder  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends on the weight rating of your rod. My rod for example has a lure weight rating from 30 - 100 grams. So either a 65g or 85g stickbait would work great and the 85g would get slightly better casting distance.

    Do you normally use burley when stickbaiting? Sometimes I go to new areas and obviously don’t see any bustups and can spend hours with no results. So I’m wondering if it’s worth trying to attract the kingfish this way

    • @Fishingreminder
      @Fishingreminder  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I usually don't use burley. Just because I find it too much hassle 😆 But I think it could greatly increase your success rate if you're stick baiting off the rocks.

    Hi just wanting t get into stick baiting does it matter what feel I use as I’m not wanting to spend to much money

    • @Fishingreminder
      @Fishingreminder  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey, the thing with a stick bait reel is that you want a fairly fast retrieve rate and it should be light weight with a good drag rating. If it's too heavy you tire quickly and if the line retrieve speed is slow your stickbait moves too slowly. But you can certainly find cheap reels that will do the job or use what you have to get started.

    Nice video bro. Would u mind i ask the detail of ur reel and rod?

    • @Fishingreminder
      @Fishingreminder  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      thanks mate. The reel is a Daiwa Big Game 5000 and the rod is a Saltist-X 762H. The reel is spooled with 50 lbs braid. When you choose a rod you have to check the rating for the lure weight. Mine can cast 40-120g lures. That is in the weight range of the stick baits I like to use.

    Nice video boss, what’s your take on high speed reels? Is it a must or can I stick bait without it??

    • @Fishingreminder
      @Fishingreminder  ปีที่แล้ว

      cheers man, I don't think high speed reels are necessary. I think the retrieve technique is more important that the speed. Mimicking a fleeing wounded bait fish, that moves erratically with short pauses and side to side motion.

    i have been thinking to get a stickbaiting combo ready for the summer kingfish. what thing should you look for in a reel for stickbaiting

    • @Fishingreminder
      @Fishingreminder  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey mate, you need a reel with a good retrieve speed. I use the Daiwa BG 5000 and more recently the Penn Slammer 5500. I really like Penn these days because they are so robust and waterproof. As for a rod you need a good spin rod that can cast a weight of 150-300g. I'm quite happy with my Daiwa Saltist. It does a good job without breaking the bank.

      thanks @TimsVids I'm using 50lbs braid and 60 or 80lbs leader. In harbors 60 and around rocks 80. The FG knot is best for joining leader to braid.
