You would be surprised what awards officers get. I remember officers would go badge hunting. They would ride along with us long enough to get into a TIC then they would never leave the wire again. They would submit the paperwork and get a CIB and bronze star. Meanwhile Joe who was outside the wire every day pulling soldiers from burning vehicles getting wounded it the process would get a damn ARCOM.

@HE-162 the "Scroll" is the Ranger Regiment's unit shoulder patch (worn on left shoulder while assigned). The only way to get the Scroll is to pass RASP and serve in the Regiment. The only way to permanently wear rhe Scroll on your right shoulder is to have gone on a combat deployment with the Regiment.

There possibly was not slots open as a Captain with the Ranger Regiment, so he was transferred to the 101st. As a Lieutenant, he would have been a Platoon Leader. He would have seen combat as a Platoon Leader. As a Captain he could have been in combat as the Company Commander. Officers and Senior NCO (1SG, CSM) have been killed in combat.

This guys a badass thank you all for your service. I’m 25 years old and with a federal felony on my record from when I was 18. Im hoping one day guys like me can join. I’m waiting for the day, hopefully soon before I get too old to finally be able to serve my country.
On my reserve unit we have 3 majors who are all former enlisted airborne infantry guys. They all have air assault badges and earned their Ranger tabs. 2 of them are scrolled up. Then they decided to become officers. They are the most squared away guys I have met in my entire time in the army.
I was Air Force during Vietnam, loadmaster on C141. My pleasure to help deploy these gentlemen and their units, anywhere, including drops out of the troop doors. To this day, it felt great to be part of a team, regardless of branch
Hey man everyone is a cog in the wheel in the military. You were still a POG though at the end of the day. I served 3 combat tours as a grunt in GWOT. I’ve seen so many REMFs telling their war stories and demanding respect as a combat veteran when they were never in the combat. They were in a combat zone and that’s much different. Maybe incoming hit their bases but it’s much different than living where the enemy can reach out and touch you and your only job is to kill them. Just saying.
Frankly, if the CO is shooting his rifle he isn't doing his job. It makes sense for his subordinates to carry more magazines, but his job is to lead them and direct the battle space, not be a rifleman.
IT depends your job. If you're kicking in doors then leaving less mags is better. But ig you're just on standby or doing patrols the most mags you can carry the better. Sometimes youll see spec ops guys with 3 mags on the rig and one in the gun.
Rangers also have speed ball packages so they don’t need to carry so much ammo on them during operations they can get resupplied while on op. Same for SEAL teams

You can try joining the FFL or Afrika Corp (ex-Wagner Group). They don't discriminate.
